To all the talented artists that may find this interesting:

Greetings.

I, myself, have been wondering for some time now what has been missing from this great community we have here at Warboards. What do other sites have that we are missing (no, I am not talking about lousy hackers or spam or other things of that nature)? A unifying wardrobe that’s what!

Being that El Presidente, AJ, nor myself, have the god-given (genetically-given?) gift of art we thought that we should turn to what made the community great in the first place: its members, to help us in our endeavor for a befitting logo to be placed proudly on a t-shirt (or hoodie, or possibly those comfy pants, etc).

The contest: to design a monochromatic (big word for single-color) logo that somehow incorporates the Warboard’s name into an aesthetically pleasing piece of art. Be as creative as you like, just remember that it must meet the following criteria:

1. It must have at least "Warboards" somewhere in the design (a cookie if you can have it read "Warboards.org" without it looking gaudy).

2. It must be monochromatic with no shades. No grayscale.

3. I don't care what resolution you post the picture on this thread as; but if we choose your design the image must be at least 150 dpi or greater, and come in either a jpeg or psd format.

4. This is suppose to be real apparel that you would wear, printed by a real silk-screening company.

Also some necessary legal babble: By submitting a design, you are giving it to our staff to use however we see fit. If your design is chosen, it may still be modified according to our needs. You will receive full credit for any submissions which we decide to use, in portion or in full, but you do not retain legal ownership of the ideas or content which you submit to us.

It's a lot cheaper to use just one colour (well, two since you do in fact have the colour of the tee itself) especially since this is more of a test phase then anything. Shades themselves usually don't transfer well onto tees.

Can we use the banner at the top? Parts of the background are copyrighted images, but they're such insignificant pieces that it shouldn't really matter, right?

At the moment there is no official deadline set, the unofficial one is when something catches the attention of AJ or myself. Obviously material baring a copyright should not be used unless it belongs to Warboards itself.

I like gornforn's. Kind of Transformer like without actually ripping them off, at least as far as I can tell. I may try my hand at something over the next couple of weeks.

I tried experimenting with making the sword into Crossing each other, but that looked too much like Armor Games. I actually made this, no tracing at all.

Just tell me what you want to add/remove, etc. If not, I will continue working on it in this fashion.

Um, the sword design's not really practical, I mean, the crosstrees are curved back towards the user so that instead of catching an ememy's blade it'll slide it off the sword and towards you. Just a minor quibble. :D

I don't really like those too much b/c they kind of say 'warboards' like 2 or 3 times, and saying 'the voice of the org network' twice seems very odd.

Has nothing to do with "catchiness" of the logo or whatever...the simple answer is that anything else can't be silkscreened onto a t-shirt due to the nature of the process!

O_o ya i though it just had to be self made. I didnt base my design off our logo O_o i looked at several pictures on google to see what a lions face looked like and just drew it. This was not inspired or based off of the Warboard Lion Design.

So i need opinions now to decide if i should draw another one or if i should start editing this lion.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but, If the Lion avatar image is trademarked by Blizzard, then I assume that that means it is not the default avatar image for all vBulletin forums? If it is the default for all vBulletin forums, then I don't see why we would want to use a lion as our logo, as it is not related to us specifically. If it is not the default for all vBulletin forums, then sure, go ahead, use a lion, although I think something a bit more unique might be better. Something like Mjolniir and Lithium's work. I don't know where they got the images from, if they made them or found them on google, but if they made them themselves, which would make the images unique, I myself like them.

Obviously we can use a lion as our logo for a shirt. Blizzard doesn't have a trademark on all lion images. It's just we don't want people doing the "WB Lion" for the shirt because *it is* copyright blizzard.

Fallen: as far as I can tell, that image is perfectly fine, unless there is an extremely similar lion somewhere else (or it wasn't drawn by you).

It's kinda hard to judge because the T-Shirt looks fucked up, the proportions, but I think I understand how you want it. (That's also why I thought at first that the banner was so enormous)

It would look better if you try to find a good proportion T-Shirt and then use the banner on it.

Yeah, sure. (But its pretty hard to come up with a real good and t-shirt like drawing). But I'll try to google a template shirt to put it on. :P

You realize that taking the old warboards banner and putting it on a tshirt is not an original idea in the least and won't win this contest.

1. There is a shit ton of grayscale.
2. I can manipulate psd files just as well as anyone can could do that shirt design myself. Hence why we were asking for ORIGINAL artwork.

It has to do with printing costs.
Costs go down as the more shirts of one specific design are printed. In the future I am sure we hope to have many different designs, but for the moment the administration feels its best to settle with just one.

I'm working on an idea, but I work very slowly, and my idea may need the help of a skilled artist to actually put it together, after i'm done sketching it up.
Would there be copyright infringement to use Various weapon shadows from all of blizzard's productS? or would I have to use convential weapon shadows?

The fact that you have explicitly stated it is a blizzard's image's shadow makes it copyright. This is the official stance of the administration.

Though -- copyrights extend as far as the ability to ascertain and provide substantial proof that your work was produced from another's. Just saying.

the only distincly Blizzard item I intend on using that could be disputed is a shadow of a Marine's gauss rifle, everything else can be passed off as medieval weapons.
*edit* wanted to use the toss battle suit (parts of it more than anything, trying to give it the startcraft feel, but I can't seem to actually get it to work. Can anyone suggest a good Diablo weapon (preferallby somethin with a staff on it, or a pike or something?)

Ah well, here's a new logo that I'm submitting, kinda looks like a generic logo of some sorts. Meh.

Guess not... I'm still working on mine... but it's hard to keep a WB theme without using stuff seen on the site. I mean, best way to keep a theme for a stie would be to use the sites own layout... The logo on the top is obviously going to be spoofed somehow. It will help the person reading the shirt to find something familiar between the shirt and site, IMO.

I should have something up next time... working on a sprite contest ATM...
