I've always been fascinated with the Kings and Queens of Europe back in the day. I've read soo many books that involve historical fiction AND even autobiographies and such.

Last night by bf and I watched this movie and I must say I was disappointed. My bf didn't know much about Marie Antoinette, so during the movie I had to sit and explain what this was, what that was--Why she did this--Where that little village came from--Why she did this play and clapped at the opera, who Madame Du Barry was, etc etc.

To someone who has NEVER read up on Marie Antoinette, they would be completely lost. I was disappointed that in the movie, they never showed what REALLY happened in the end. What they failed to mention [In the end, you see Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, and the kids escaping in a carriage.] in the movie is that their escape attempt did not succeed. They made the mistake of travelling with the royal guard following them. Yeah they dressed in peasant clothes that were supposed to be "disguises" but the whole royal guard thing gave them away.

They were captured by the revolutionaries and taken back to Versailles and then to prison where they were held there until their execution by guilliotine.

I thought the movie was good on SOME parts, I REALLY enjoyed the choice of music but the movie was quite boring. It didn't really show Marie Antoinette like I thought it would. It didn't explain itself well enough that's for sure.

Thoughts anyone?

It wasn't supposed to be her life story. It was an excerpt of her life, one of the happier parts, and it sort explained what lead up to the ending that everyone knows already.

I saw it in theaters, and I enjoyed it. Especially the music.
