Well, Given Excalibur's abscence, and Chronic's inactivity, I've given in to popular demand and finished my own grading for the maps submitted. Sorry about the delay, but I assure you it won't happen gain.

Flyinghat
Both ahzz and Flyinghat were disqualified for not posting maps in the contest thread. They receive automatic Zeros.
I can explain in detail why you recieved the grades you got, if you send me a Private Message.
In general I looked for a few things. For positional balance I mianly looked at if you used scmdraft's mirror feature. Then I checked your inverted ramps and gas placement at starting locations to make sure.
For Racial Balance I looked at the chokes, vulnerability to tank drops, cliffs, how many extra entrances were present in the map, the amount of gas:mineral ratio, and whether or not nearby islands had mineral blocks to prevent flying CC's.
For Aesthetics I checked variation in terrain, placement of doodads, number of doodads in an area, and if cloned doodads were placed next to each other.
For creativity, I looked at things like your own interpretation of the theme and other neat features you included. If you managed to make the map look complex, it helped your creativity.
As for the focus on theme, points here were very lenient. Generally, I graded on the number of new features you added. Even if your map was very balanced, and well decorated, if it didnt have something relatively new it would not score well here. Things like wide ramps, inverted ramps, special terrain or doodads, mineral blocks, neutral buildings, etc. all contributed here.
Now if you will, lets all remember Titanwing's November Mapping Contest! (http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=31562)
