Can someone help find, or does anyone have the Terran Ghost animated portrait?

What, as a gif?

If you want the original portrait, get one of them extraction programs and just get it from your copy of SC.

This is similar to what I need. What extraction program can I use to get an animated portrait?

retrogrp,grpedit,or sfgrpconverter.
You will have to use winmpq to extract them aswell.

Meh, the portraits are all over the internet as gifs (except the seige tank driver... hmmm), I don't think there's such a great need for 'em.

Ok, I've got WinMPQ and retroGRP. They both work, I've looked at them both. Now, what the hell do I do? I'm completely clueless on how to work these things.
Note: I am looking for unit portraits, so I can make them into animations to be used elsewhere.

use winmpq to open stardat and get your grp
then use retrogrp to open the grp and convert it.

If you get alot of unknowns dl the listfile.

animated portraits are smk's not grp's. You'll need the Smacker Video Tools (http://www.radgametools.com/down/Smacker/SmkTools.exe) to open them. After you extract the images there's multiple methods of converting it to an animated gif.

Well, I do need a listfile, but I can't find it at starcraft.org
I know it's probably there, but I just can't seem to find it.
A little help?

Ok, so I've got a BW lisfile. It has the list for everything, but it's only a text document. When I check out Broodat, it's been properly listed, nothing's unknown, but for the stardat, it remains unknown, and that's what I need. Help?

I don't know, it does that for me too. There isn't a listfile included with stardat. You have to go find one for it.

I know, and that's the problem, I've been looking for an SC listfile, but damned if I can't find one. So since anyone who mods must have one, can someone please provide me with a link to where they got theirs?

The latest list file presented in the SC's Mapping FAQ/Editing Resources (http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=13285) thread should cover it splendidly. ;p
Just bear in mind that after getting it just use the WinMPQ's program "options" to set it as their reference list file.

What the...that is the lisftile that I've got, but all it is is some little text document, it hasn't actually changed all the unknowns in stardat...but you say put it as the reference listfile in winMPQ options? Ok...
*checks*
How the hell do I do that?

Basan

Extract the *.txt file into the same folder where your WinMPQ is. After this is done, just open the program an head onto it's "options". When you opened those just take a peep at the "file list" tab and I guess that you can figure out the rest from there. :P

Ok. Got that to work now. Also got the smacker thing that one guy was talking about. I can use smacker to open up a piec of a portrait, it'll play once, the got to a weird smacker window, then disappear. I guess I'm trying to compile them into a repeating .gif, since that's what others have said, or whatever small animation there is. How do I do this?

techmaster

AAARRGH, it's not working again! I don't know why, but stardat is coming up as unknown again. I've still got the text listfile in the file lists tab in options for reference, but for some reason, it's not working again.

It might be a problem with an older WinMPQ version. Get the most recent one from ShadowFlare's domain and then try the most recent reference file list that is in one of Ktan's posts at the Editing Resources thread that I've linked earlier. *Wink, hint*

Heh, found and fixed the problem...A real d'oh! moment. It was still using the Bnetfile.txt as the reference listfile, not the real one.

But back to the task at hand. Now that I've got it and smacker working again, I need step-by-step instructions on exactly what to do. I've found the portrait animation pieces I want, now i need to know how to actually extract them, compile them together, then loop it into a single animation that I can use wherever. People have been saying a conversion to .gif, so I guess I'll go with that.

Now, what do I do?
