Is there a limit as to how big (file size, not actual dimentions) my sig can be? I want to make the current image in my sig animated using a GIF, but before I start work on this frustrating project, I just thought I'd check to make sure I can use this in my sig. The dimensions will be about how big it is now, and the file size will probably be around 500KB to 1 MB (I'm really not sure actually, it will be about 30 frames the size of the pic in my sig)
If I can store the GIF on my own ftp server (like the jpg in my sig now) I should'nt have any problems using it here, right?

Read the Annoucement http://www.warboards.org/announcement.php?f=25&announcementid=1.
Uhm. There is no way you would be allowed a 500kb or 1mb signature at this forum, or in fact, any other large forum I know of.
Reading the announcements (link in the previous post) will help you alot you know.

The point isn't hosting (in fact, WB won't host your sig). The point is load times for poor users such as Modred who are still stuck on 56k connections.

Well...you can remove stuff from your sig, thus getting rid of it. Or the admins can (and have occasionally threatened) modify your account so that you have no sig whatsoever.

He could, but that means he can't view any signatures.

*sigh* Alright, let's lay things out.
- The restrictions are for the benefit of all, not just the 56k users. Why? If 40 different people had 1mb signatures on a 40 per page thread, that's 40mb of loading in addition to the thread elements and graphics.
- Turning off signatures should be a free choice, not an imposed one because the load time is too rediculous to handle. Reducing the posts per page amount falls under these lines as well.
- You ever try doing some lightning-fast moderating in a graphic-heavy thread? Since the vb3 drop-down menu loads last, it's a major pain in the ass.

Good point. But 40 Mb on DSL won't take more than a couple of minutes, even less on the high end of available services...on 56k it could take 3 or more hours. :p

I know, they should make the limit 500 KB or something, no maybe 300 KB is good, but 25 KB is tiny!!

But Modred if you are on dial-up you shouldn't be viewing 40 ppp...

But I do. Ha. And in the event that it did take so long to download the images, I would just turn them off. :p

The original file for my current sig was over 50 kb (.psp format). In .gif, it is only 14 kb. 25k is plenty of space.

I still wish I could use a highly flashy animated sig where the units move.
