View Full Version : Paid Name Changes eh?

Yes, it is that time once again where the society of Azeroth may be manipulated even further provided enough real-world currency is available. The latest ploy of financial gain based on total irrelevant foundations now lets us change our character names for ten USD. In my opinion, seriously wtf? Why would I want to change my name and add to confusion of pretty much everything? How the hell would that tie into roleplaying? What is the point of it beyond a few extra bucks?
Discuss.

Some people aren't pleased with their names and would like to change them. Personally, I'd like to see a gender change option.
... ugh... really is pointless.. can't you just make a new character??

Yah, you COULD, but why wouldn't you just pay $10 to save yourself that hassle. I guess if your character is a scrub, then you might be able to justify leveling the same class on same side on the same server with a different name.
I would like to see the sex change. Male nelf gets boring, plus female nelfs look 100x better in the gear.

So, if you got a really good character that you like but realize that your name is poor for whatever reason, you now have an option to change it. Yes, what a horrible money making scheme. If they didn't charge for it, people would have their names changed every other day. It'd be interesting if they charged 1000G or something for purposes of counteracting goldfarming.

Expect to see similar features for changing facial expressions/features, hair, skin color, gender, etc.
Do not expect to see similar features for changing race, because there's no way in hell that's going to happen.

Bah, I can't believe Blizz would charge money for that. You'd expect an option like that to be free, especially if people already pay 15$ a month.

If they didn't charge for it, people would have their names changed every other day.Even with a cooldown on it, free name changes would be catastrophic.
It's probably targeted less to people who want to make a "cool" new name, but towards those who have grown past their old names, or feel them inappropriate for whatever reason.

It's extremely helpful for the RP community. Previously, if your character ICly died then you'd either:
A) Delete the character
B) Scrap the character and use the same model but change the personality etc.
C) Use "magic" to revive him (which is generally frowned upon as it defeats the purpose of RP death).
Now, however, if you're character ICly dies then you can change the name and play him as someone else instead of starting all over again. I personally welcome this - it's not as if you're forced to use this.

Runescape charged an amount of in-game money, not very much, IIRC, for gender and appearance changes.
WoW charges real-life money for name changes.
What's next? Age of Conan charging denars for giving you new parents?

I dont see the fuss with charging to change names, heaps of people are "over" there chars names (being with 70's).
i dont see a problem with this.

well, if your like me, i cant even stand to make a character that doesnt have a legit sounding name. I just feel...so obsolete. I like to make names people will remember. Like this undead mage on my server...his name was Nebachanezzar.......that is SO awesome...i wonder what happened to him....
