Screw Fantasy, im sticking to 40K.
Well i could either go SM (i have 2 tactical squads or 1 iono), Nids (i have some of em), Chaos (they look badass), Necrons (again badass).
Ill prolly only get like 1K worth of them, so yerrr.

With the necron leader guy, not the flying one, is he metal or plastic?

The necron lord is metal. I suppose that makes sense really....

Metal looks nicer and they're more durable models.

Yeah, you may not be able to do as much, but you can certainly mess with metal in ways that you can't with the resin models. It's pretty interesting what you can do to metal models with a pair of pliers or a soldering iron.

Hmmm... can't do anything with metal aye?

Take the new metal calgar model, erase the Ultramarines iconography, remove the head and replace it with that of a say... Metal Grey Knight Terminator with psycannon head. Pin on an Inquisitors arm, put some green stuff on it to add some armor plates. There is a greater sword... now, take a normal Terminator power fist arm, pin that to the calgar body, add a cut in half halbard... and bing... there is my Grand Master Belail for my Deathing... oh, and add a hood with green stuff.

And who says you can't do anything? Hahaha.

Anyway, Necrons are pretty good... but only 1k worth? Come on.;)

Necrons don't work very well below 1500, so I'd advise you to go for the full 1.5 K. TBh, it's only a monolith and another few warriors or immortals, but those extra 500pts give you so much more flexibility.

Ok 1.5 min, hmm one question about the Necrons are they really just like "puppets"? no will of there own?>

They're mindless robots... with souls. The souls power the mechanical skeletons, but the C'tan guide and command the Necron Lords, who in turn guide and command the Necrons lower than them.

Like the Zerg or Nids?

The C'tan are gods/god-like beings so they aren't being driven by another creature or the collective will such as zerg & tyranids. While each necron will have an individual will and personality, it has no control of its actions, tyranids on the other hand have no/very little individual will or personality but it makes its decisions on a weighted collective basis. If a tyranid leaves synapse it will resort to how it was designed, where as if a necron loses its connection then it collapses.

Keep in mind I am talking from knowledge accumulated over the years not as a encyclopedia don't expect me to get it accurate.

That pretty much sums it up... encyclopedia or not.

Anyway, Necrons, as good as they are, kill the Monolith and the game is pretty much done for ya. Don't rely heavily on such things as raising your troops back from the dead, or the whole Nid thing with synapse... too many bad memories... Go for the army that best suits your style of gaming, if walking metal dead guys floats your boat, who am I to judge...

But yeah, go with at least 1.5 k for a necron Army, or just go past it and give yourself more units to play around with till you find the army configuration you like and that works for your.

Interesting, Ok well heres the units i would like to field

HQ Not too sure here, which is better Nec Lord on foot or on the skimmer?
Elites I like the look of the phairahs (or w/e)
Troops Necron warriors!
Fast Attack Wraiths!!!
Heavy Monolith/I also like the look of the destoyers

Im going for looks mainly lol, so what should i chop/change? I havent read the codex so i dont know which ones are the better ones in certain situations

Skimmer if he's with Destroyers and Wraiths, on foot if you want to go with footsloggers.

That'd be my basic advice with the Lord. Naturally, take as many Resurrection Orbs as humanly possible.

It is definitely worth reading the codex, to get a feel for the army. Heavy Destroyers are one of the few units I don't take, but that's because I haven't got any. They will be very useful for taking out Monstrous Creatures, and the like, but they will also be quite fragile.

A monolith is a good choice too.
