Hello there, I've recently decided to start Warhammer 40k. Now, obviously I picked the Imperial Guard to start with as they are the most awesome *wink*

I've drawn up this army list :-

HQ

Command Platoon

Senior Officer - 55 pts
2 Veterans +12 pts
Standard Bearer, Medic + 10
Commissar + 40

Anti-tank Support - 35
3 Lascannon Heavy Weapons teams + 75

Troops

Infantry Platoon

Junior Officer - 40
Veterans + 12
Standard Bearer, Medic +10
Commissar +40

Infantry Squad - 60 points
Heavy Bolter HW +10
Commissar +40

I.S. - 60 points
Heavy Bolter HW +10
Commissar +40

I.S. - 60 points
Auto-cannon +15

Infantry Platoon

Junior Officer - 40
Veterans + 12
Standard Bearer, Medic +10

Infantry Squad - 60 points
Heavy Bolter HW +10

I.S. - 60 points
Heavy Bolter HW +10

I.S. - 60 points
Auto-cannon +15

Heavy Support

Leman Russ - 140
Lascannon +15, Heavy Bolters +10

Leman Russ - 140
Bolter +5, Heavy Bolters +10

Leman Russ - 140
Bolter +5, Heavy Bolters +10

Fast Attack

Sentinel Squad - 35
Multi-laser +10

Elites

Storm Trooper Squad - 100
Vet Sergeant +6
Commissar +40
Plasma Guns + 20
Deep Striking +10

Now, altogether that makes around 1535 points.

Any suggestions what I can fill my army with to get up to 2000 points and/or how to improve my army?

EDIT: Cheers to Singo. Forgot about the whole Infantry Platoon thing. Fixed it up.

Well, as an improvement, making it legal would be a start, you need to add either a second infantry platoon, an Armoured fist squad or a conscript platoon.

Also, get a heroic senior officer for your company commander, that extra leadership is well worth it.

To get 2k, more infantry, as many heavy weapons as you can squeeze in there and possibly a few of those nice (X)pt power weapons just in case.

Welcome to the defenders of humanity.

First have u already bought this army?

If no my advice is too build ur army in blocks of 500, play some games then you know what u need.

I'm pretty sure singo has played with the IG before, and I certainly have.

The 500 pt block thing is a good plan, but it's also something I just completely ignored. Besides, you're still getting a lot of troops in those 500 pts.

Yeah, you should build an army in blocks of "oooh, that looks nice, I'm having one of them"

That's how I roll with all my armies. Warhammer's golden rule is to have fun and if having fun means making a Rough Rider army lead by Theodoric Rooseveltus then so be it.

Yeah, thats why I collected chaos and had lots of big stuff and half the special characters even though I never used them. In the end I turned the special characters into models in my army, Doomrider is now a generic biker, Cypher is a aspiring champion, Abaddon was combined with Ahriman to make a sorcerer in terminator armour and is now a nurgle lord in terminator armour and Ahriman is not spare parts until I buy some plastic terminators *drool*.

I was only stating my opinion, thats what the thread asks for...

you should prolly get a demolisher and defiantly a basilisk (best tank in the game!) and don't forget an assassin and maybe ogryns if you can afford them, a chimera and hellhound can also beef up an army.
