I'm part Transylvanian-Saxon and part scotch-irish and part southern American. I don't know exactly where my family came from that lives in southern America, so I just call them southern Americans. They're probably descended from the English or something.

Oh, crap. I really must be behind the times... When did exactly Texas became independent from the rest of the USA?
Actually...
On 2 March 1836, the Convention of 1836 signed a Declaration of Independence, declaring Texas an independent nation.
I'm mostly Irish and Scottish, with a fair amount of British and Welsh and German as well, a pinch of Dutch, Swedish, and Swiss, a dash of Native American, a tidbit of Polish, and a smidgen of Spanish.
In other words, Texan.
Actually...
On 2 March 1836, the Convention of 1836 signed a Declaration of Independence, declaring Texas an independent nation.
Did that declaration hold to be valid to current date? :smirk: Wasn't it done while it was under Mexican rule? Wasn't it at some point later in history reversed asking for an integration under the US flag to prevent Mexicans to take it back?

Hey, I was just answering your question. :P
Hey, I was just answering your question. :P
With current status knowledge would be nice. That independence was sparked by many of the US colonists that hanged around Texas at at that time. And I doubt that you and GD were born there in those days...
Summing up, it may have been independent but it isn't now. Therefore, initial claim is moot. ;p

Reading this again, how would it be an independent nation if it were under Mexican rule? Bah. It was it's own country after it broke away from Mexico. That's why the Texan flag is the only state flag that can be raised as high as the US flag. :D
You unite the world,right?:)

Hmm, don't ask me for my entire genetic or ancestral background, because I don't know it. All I know is that I am 100% USDA Approved American.
I have a mostly German ancestry, with little bits of several other European countries thrown in for variety, and a small amount of Native American.

I'm surprised that no one has pointed this out yet, but nationality technically means what country you were born in, not where your ancestors came from. I consider myself an American through and through, especially since a few of my ancestors fought for freedom in the Revolutionary War. But I understand the spirit of this thread.
From my mother I am one-eighth Polish and one-eighth Bulgarian of 19th century immigrants to the U.S., and one-quarter English of prominent planters, one of the first families of Virginia (somewhere between 1638-1641). There's a bunch of Bulgarians here at Warboards, word up!!!
From my father I am all English, and patrilineally we trace our family as far back as the Anglo-Danish Vikings, when in 1066 we fought in William the Conqueror's invasion of England and were given a section of land from him in reward. Later in 1630 we settled Massachusetts. There was even one woman in my family who was an accused in the Salem witch trials. She confessed and was spared her life.
Andover, Mass. and Portland, Oregon were founded by members of my family, and we have had at least one US Senator from Illinois, who was a close friend of Abraham Lincoln and fervent abolitionist.
Of course none of this has much to do with where I am now, but it's kind of a cool story, we have a lot of details about it and it's really nice to be able to pass down that heritage. It's easy to think in the present that things aren't going to be that different for your kids or their kids, but if you look hard and think on a larger scale you can see that history is being made all around you, and you are a part of it. So why not keep records of your family, who and where they are and what they do? A hundred or more years from now this world will be very different and stories like that are very valuable, at least to my relatives. If you don't already have records of your history, you should start building them today for your children!

Well, a lot of people that post here are American. A lot of American families have only been in the US for a couple of generations. A lot of Americans see themselves as Polish-Americans, Italian-Americans or whatever. It goes deeper than just the place they were born.
why the people that is born in the US are called "american"?
it could be northamerican...
the people from mexico to argentina are also americans...
