Ok, I got BroodWar, and I want to make my map an observer map.
So basically, what I think I have to do right now is to make the two forces an ally victory, and put in the map revealer all over the place, am I correct?
But how can I make it so that the map revealer works only when the player is defeated?
Any pointers?;)

Maybe someone should stick a topic that says "FAQ" but it'll just lead to BWMN's Articles section ;)

We actually have a tutorial's section (http://www.warboards.org/forumdisplay.php?f=68). Stop acting like you're better than everyone just because you're from BWMN. It's really not appreciated.

Either way, this question has been asked before (http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=29950&highlight=observer). So I might make a new tutorial.

Chef, the holier than thou attitude doesn't cut it. Help for the sake of assisting it's great n' fine but patronizing in the process (amidst other similar ilk) isn't acceptable. Since we're all a part of the SC community let's try and play nice in the sandbox (even if spread around through different sites).

Er... when I say "Observer Map"... I mean a map that lets you still WATCH the players play, even after you're dead...
In my opinion, all you have to do is make some map revealers, and don't let the player get defeated, but just destroy all his units, so that all he can do is watch.
How can you destroy all his units? I'm pretty sure I can figure this on my own, but I'm seeking help, just in case I can't.:P
Cheers!

Actually no, it's done by giving the player allied vision and removing his defeat trigger status until the match is 100% over.

You'll have to mess around with triggers a little bit. In order to keep a player alive after they've died all you have to do is delete the trigger that says they lose if they have no buildings. Allowing them to see everything afterwards is a bit more complicated. You'd have to create locations all across the map and make a trigger that deletes their units and creates map revealers at each location. An easier way to do it would be to use SC X-tra editor so you can use more custom scripts and just have everyone share vision with the player that lost. However that requires using SC X-tra which I wouldn't recommend to new map makers.

Actually, scx-e is a great transition from staredit into more powerful editor. It's basically Staredit + triggers and better placement capabilities.

All you have to do is have both players run an ai script with

Conditions-
dude dies

Actions-
Turn on shared vision for player 1
turn on shared vision for player 2

True SC X-tra isn't hard to use but if he doesn't know how to make a trigger then it's over his head. I agree that it's the perfect transition for editing but not before you've mastered Blizz's Campaign Editor.

Why not? Everyone has to learn some time. And there's nothing wrong with asking for help. Get off the high horse buddy.

More on this;

We all started somewhere. As depressing as it is, I still remember the time when I refused to use anything other than staredit (:shiftyl: Jelle)

The fact of the matter is that this is a really simple trigger, no matter who you are. However it requires scx-e to do. I see no reason why he shouldn't ask.

Wow, I had entirely forgotten forgotten that "stage" of map making. *reminisce*

What I'm saying is its easier to just experiment and make noob UMS maps to start with, that's what i did for the first 6 months or so. Not trying to make a map to put on b.net or SC.org.

Just getting to know what each trigger does and that stuff.

i never said not to ask for help its just maybe not the best place to learn.

Er... I'm pretty sure I can make a trigger, thanks:mad:
Anyways, so the basic method of this is putting up the allied vision and not letting the players lose after they died? Hmm... ok, I'll check that out, thanks guys;)

I couldn't think of a better place to learn mapping than a forum dedicated to starcraft map makers.

And flame, I didn't mean to insult you, your first couple posts just made it sound like you were new to the whole process. Maybe you are ready for X-tra :D gl with the map and let us know if you have any more questions.

... anything more you need to know flamemaster? and i would reccomend using scm draft 2 if you know your stuff, and dont already have it.
SCM Draft 2, huh? Yeah, I've heard about that... But my main worry in terms of Mapping Programs is that Uberation 2 might not be strong enough...
I've heard Uberation 3 was the best and the strongest map protection program out as of now, but for some reason, it doesn't work on my computer... any reason why this might be?
