View Full Version : [W40K] The "Apocalypse" is coming
We are getting more details on the forthcoming Expansion, i would like to see what others think of this.
Im still a 40K beginner so i dont know of what too expect, but the new Guard tank looks pretty interesting, Ill prolly grab the rulebook close to the release but i havent even looked into "City Fights" yet :concern:
For the people that are unaware of this or want a source for more info: http://uk.games-workshop.com/apocalypse/baneblade-preview/1/, hmm not that much info but anyway.

Whoo, 3,000pt bottom limit on battles. This should be awesome.

As cool as this looks, I think the economics of this new supplement are ludicrous. I mean seriously, how many people can afford to buy, assemble, paint and calculate the points for 60 infantry that will just get blown up within the first turn of the game? Who has the temper to watch as the five Leman Russes they just spent several hours working on get blown up before they even get to fire a shot? Parts of this supplement seem awesome though, 3,00 points minimum is nice, I want to see Titans in action. However it is almost certain that I will never have neither the money to afford this kind of engagement, nor the skill to operate it one. But I will enjoy watching others play that's for sure.
With the point increase does that mean the "Map" you play on would be increased?
Ill prolly get into it as i said earlier, although im a little slow at assembling/painting, im glad to hear that there holding workshops to assist people to build "quick".
EDIT: Hmm so with this point increase the Guards can field even more men MAUAHAHAHAH.

I kinda dislike how this almost makes all infantry pointless...
the only nid lists you will sill in apocalypse are nidzilla lists.
"Five hive tyrants, seventeen carnifexes and two broods of 'nillagaunts... In a 5k point game? God damn!"
Honsetly, GW could have been a little more creative and given Tyranids something like the cheeseblade or the bronze scorpion

Of course this isnt aimed at 1 vs 1 battles you know, more three people per side bringing along their entire army for the one battle. And damn forgeworld are going to happy over the next 12 months....
I dont think that the infantry is going to be pointless, but we wont know till we see the book.
Infantry wont be pointless, there will be so damn much of it.
And just in case a plastic baneblade wasnt enough.

If the Emperor, or William Tecumseh Sherman (http://up.kupatrix.com/f//4/tecumseh.gif), saw that... he would shed a manly tear.
The Space Marine Company formation sounds VERY interesting.
Will certainly help me chug along with my UM chapter, at any rate ;)

Chaos looks to have gotten the shaft, but realistically, they've just had a massive update anyway.
UPDATE
You can see all this new stuff at the UK GW store. IF you get the WD newsletter you may receive a link to all these things.

I will forgive them due to the fact that the new possessed and terminators look awesome, and they did actaully make a new ram for the chaos vindicator, I looked it at a couple of times thinking "they just copied it straight over, without any changes! DAMN THEM!", but the skull has a symbol of chaos on it. They still could have done more. And last but not least, I just got the last damned codex! (when it first came out). Another one already?!!
Apparantly though, Chaos were just a tad borked in some respect (IRON WARRIORS LIST), with other forces being totally underpowered.
I like the idea of the 'flavour' of the army coming now from how people customise units instead of special rules. It keeps the game mechanics quite focussed while creatively you still have as much scope to theme your army to a legion/faction without being bogged down with lots of rules. Traits for Marines is something that just gets abused or ignored, so I can't imagine what it was like for 3rd Ed Chaos.
That, and JJ stated that if an idea's interesting enough, it'll get a codex of its own (EG, Black Templar, Blood and Dark Angels and Daemons. I'm sure they could also do other codices in future, such as Exodites, Harlequins and maybe the Demuirg or Kroot as on offshoot of the Tau. I'd also quite like a Vespid Codex, but I don't know enough about the backstory to be able to decide if the Vespids could realistically 'go it alone')

Well, in the 2003 Chapter Approved Annual there was a codex solely for the "Kroot Mercenary Army".
Rapid Insertion Force ((;)) is £75
...
...
Ew.
I'm aware of the Kroot Merc, but I mean as a fully official codex, like the Black Templars, or even just printed in WD, but made official and also downloadable.
ATM, as far as I am aware, the Kroot codex is not tournament legal. Also, for the same reason, it's horribly imbalanced, as far as being underpowered.
60 quid baneblade....yeah...

530 dollars for the Space Marine company when it'd cost 755 dollars to buy all of the dudes individually.
Nice savings.
So do we have a date for this?
Theres one thing i want and thats more troop choices for the 'Crons, before i started i was tossing up between the Gaurd and 'Crons, but the 'Crons just lack the variety.
Date is the 13th of october isnt it?
Yes the 13th is the correct date.
So whats everyone doing for the release, im going to my local GW, to participate in some apocalyptic games, get the new commys/ogryns and the baneblade!.
Some people are doing some full infantry battles (with IG), thats going to be alotta gaurds lol
Doing? Not much as I will be at uni and thus away from the mates I have who also play, I might wander down to GW and see what they are doing, but when I only have 400 quid for the terms food and beer I really cant justify spending 60 on a baneblade, much as I would like too.
I assumed when a new expansions is released, people religously flock to there GW (thats what it sounded like from the GW nerd).
Anyway, i got gaurds to build/paint, cant wait for the baneblade.

Buy the Company Box Set instead then.
You'll starve even more, but you'll be starving in style!
Hmm. Intriguing.
But having to sit down with 200 unpainted guardsmen in front of me, knowing they all need doing would probably drain my will to live...

On a more serious note, when I can afford a baneblade, I've had a uber, uber, uber idea on how to convert it to chaos, but I'm not telling anyone until it's modelled. >.>

I plan on... Not spending tons of money buying models to play a gametype that, while epic, is also incredibly expensive. If I want to play this, I'll support the people modding SupCom to become WH40k Epic, or just play epic.

It's even worse having 100 Space Marines, all of them with the same color scheme.
Yeah, that would get very boring very quickly.
well its 8 days left, gotta paint some gaurds (i changed my color scheme so i need to ready the tards).
Has anyone got the new WD, the Apoc Battle report is soo good.
Heres a story and a question, i was at the local GW yesty, bought some more of my precious gaurds anyway, the place was packed all the boards were occupyed also there were 20 people painting and like 50 people standing there like idiots, there was one staff member who i find is a little too into the game, well i was discussing the gaurds with one Staff, then that little too into it guy yells something, then all u can here is WAAAAAAGH, im like hmm interesting, some guy won a goblin for doing it the loudest im like riight.
Does that happen often?
Saddly it is dayoh. Then again, it could have been worse... a lot worse.:concern:
Anyway, my forces are ready to march come Apocalypse. I buffed up all three main Space Marines Armies I have. My 1st Ultramarines Company now holds a wopping 15,000 points worth of Tanks, Thunderhawks, Terminators, and Dreadnaughts.
My 2nd Company only has 5000 points, but then agian it's mostly infantry and transports.
Deathwing has been bumped to a nice 13,500 points worth of Terminators, Dreads, Tanks, and 4 Thunderhawks.
As for my damned Black Templars, only 6,500 points put into their making.
Bring on the Apocalypse. I STAND READY!
Yes, there are worse activitys then this "Waagh Off"? if there is - i hope im not preseant lol.
Well iv got 2K worth of gaurds, thats prolly the furthest ill take them, then after awhile ill sink some money in another army.
