This thread is for the discussion of GOP-related candidates. Unfortunately, since there are approximately 6 different candidates with varying levels of candidacy (4 primary), I will not go as far as to put names. If you wish to discuss any of the 6 candidates: Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, Fred Thompson, Sam Brownback, or Mike Huckabee, this is your thread.

You should support Fred Thompson, who has a lot of the same stuff going on but actually has a chance to get nominated. So should all libertarians.

Fred Thompson supports the war. He even said, "I would do essentially what the president's doing in Iraq". So no he's really not the same.
Ron Paul has a proven track record of sticking with his principles over the 20 years he has been office. If he gets elected, I know exactly what he is going to be doing and what he is going to be doing is what's needed for this country. And that's why he's my candidate as well.

I think the difference is that Fred Thompson will actually be successful in rebuilding the government of Iraq and, for once in our history, actually do something America says it's going to do. Ron Paul's a couple of terms too late. We needed him instead of Bush. Now that we're in Iraq, we need someone that can fix the problems, and Fred Thompson has the experience in fixing the problems at the administrative level, which can and hopefully will trickle down through the various agencies of the government. Similarly, Iraq is too far-gone not to stay and fix the mess we started. Sorry, Ron, I like you and all, but you just didn't run at the right time. Maybe Paul could run in 2016.

Contrary to popular belief Ron Paul is not a libertarian. He's a constitutionalist.
I too like Paul's standings on most all issues. The only one I really differ greatly with is the death penalty. While Thompson does currently have a slightly better chance of getting nominated Paul's gathering is growing and it's making it harder for the media to try and ignore/downplay him.

I don't really remember calling Ron Paul a libertarian. You should also know that I think that -- on the third-party level -- voting along party lines as well as arguing about semantics of nomenclature is laughable and stupid.
Then maybe I'm not reading what you're typing. To me this:
You should support Fred Thompson, who has a lot of the same stuff going on but actually has a chance to get nominated. So should all libertarians.
Was calling Paul a libertarian. However it appears I am mistaken?

If I suggest that all black people should vote for Hillary Clinton, do you think I am calling Hillary black?

In the context you used referring to Thompson, yes. In the context you used referring to Clinton, no.

Ron Paul raised 5 million this third quarter (With 1 million coming in just the final week). That puts him in contention with the first tier. His campaign is the only one to grow and improve from the last quarter of any Republican or Democrat (I'm pretty sure of this, but don't quote me on this. Feel free to check though, I'd love to know). I really think he can become president at this rate.
