Well, this is a long one, Blud. This dates back all the way to prehistoric man, where Neanderthals competed for meat and against each other to be the alpha-male. This carried over for thousands of generations, and renewed in the dark ages. Games bring about a need to fight in males, predominantly while playing violent video games, like UT, Halo, Starcraft, GTA, etc,. This need to impress each other (but more importantly the women) is instinctual, which most females do not posses. This forces men to be attracted to gaming to "hunt" in the modern day.

When will we see an new genre of games emerge or ressurect itself? (Example: Space simming, adventure titles, text-based, simple arcade, etc,.)

Because the generation of today, from what I can see, can't see past the end of Master Chief's visor or Marcus Fenix's chainsaw. Unfortunate, but I do know people that have never played a Quake game. I even knew a guy once who thought Unreal was an RPG, and didn't even know what Wolfenstein 3d was. Pitiful.
I try to keep the classic mentality alive by researching old games and how their engines evolved into what we see today (hence the title "Game Engine Guru".) Quake 1 is the biggest classic engine, and it's roots are easy to track into today's games. Hell, even Half-Life 2 still has some Quake 1 code and features in it (console). I'd love to write a book on the subject (seriously), but they take forever to write.

Yeah, here's the real reason. The PS3 has a very large disc space (Blu-Ray), at least twice that of an ordinary DVD (or dual-layer, if I recall correctly...) The simple truth of the matter is...Unreal Tournament III will be too big to be crammed onto a Blu-Ray disc for the PS3, so some content must be cut. All of the maps are finished, as far as I know, and so optimization is not taking place. Map cuts are part of the optimization process. Since FPS's are fast paced, or in Q3A's and UT's case, fast-paced and on crack, load times must be few, short, and far between. Searching through ten gigs of content (mostly sounds and textures) to find one map and then dump it into the game shouldn't take more than 30 seconds, so to shorten load times and make the whole game easier to play on the 360 and PS3, Epic Games is cutting anywhere from 10-15 maps on the PS3 and 15-30 maps on the 360.

So, without further ado, I reach out to old-school HL DM-ers and TFC players alike: Did you dislike the "bunnyhopping" engine glitch? Did you use it? Please explain why and tell the rest of us what this movement boost is.
