The "wargame" or "table-top game" Warhammer 40k looks REALLY fun. But is it worth ALL the money? If I started, I would get the Battle For Macragge set, but I don't know about getting much else. Maybe improve the Tyranid and Space Marine armies I have, but thats about it.
In six months or so I might get something more. So, I am wondering, is it worth $50 to get the Battle For Macragge set? Would I enjoy it with the few soldiers it has?
I really like the modeling aspect of it as well, but I don't know. Once again, is it worth it?

It's terribly overpriced. Games Workshop's paint may as well be pigmented crack in a bottle (even then, crack would probably be cheaper) and the models are hella expensive. Plus with the rising price of petroleum... well it's not looking good. On the other hand, you get master craftsmanship on the models and the guarantee that you bought to quality. Just it's very expensive.
Only get into collecting and playing if you have money you can't spend on something more important. Money is very important in 40k, don't get into the game without it.

Well I just got into it, i bought the "battle for macragge" (its pretty much a tutorial).
The guy there will prolly play a few scenarios from it with you (that was the case for me), and yer im hooked on WH40K. Im about to start an army shortly.
Only get into it if your really keen (due to money and whatnot) but its a worthwhile hobby.
Oh and BTW, just because the starter set has SM's and Nids, doesent mean you have to play them.
Ill be going a IG army (after much self confusion lol), so i used the SM's in the starter set to experiment with different color styles, now all the SM's i have are pretty much all different colors lol.

The Battle for Macragge set may be worth the $50 simply because it also comes with all the templates and a rulebook, the few models in the set are quite different than other modeling sets which allow for more customization during assembly. Also, Battle for Macragge doesn't come with any paints or glue or files or hobby knives etc., so you will have to purchase those separately. If you are looking to expand, bear in mind that you will most likely be forced to purchase a codex for each army plus the extra models. So expanding your army (or armies) is only really worth it if you are willing to commit and have a budget balanced for it.
Bastards, its cheaper in the states (damn VAT)
I think it is worth it, not that I have it yet, due to shortage of funds. Because I'm at uni I still play with the f*ing 3rd edition rules (feel free to point and laugh).
Get it though, no one said you have to expand quickly.
Plan everything before you buy. Army, colour palette and maybe have a few poses in mind for your models. Get all the painting advice and modelling advice as soon as you can, preferably after having made your first model.
The Models are expensive, ensure you get the most out of them. Having a keen modelling eye and planning and painting carefully can help produce something you are glad to have spent so much money on.

Okay. Thanks. For the moment I think I am going to hold back. I don't have the budget at the moment to spend over one-hundred dollars to make a good army. Once again thanks.
