I've been speccing in Marksmenship in my hunter for awhile now but alot of people in my guild are saying that Beastmastery is better. Is that so? I thought Marksmenship would really help me as it would make my ranged skills even deadlier.

Beastmastery > Marksmanship

BM is better for soloing, DPS, survivability and raiding. It aint too bad for PvP either.

MM just can't compare.

BM is great for solo with survivability, but never raiding. You cant control your pets agro good enough for a raid group, plus if your pet dies (and it will) you now suck at dps because of your spec.

MM is decent damage with high RAP for heavy hits. It would do nicely in a raid or instances. Plus you dont have to count on your pet for real damage.

Surv is my personal favorite because it gives crit and AGI which is better than raw attack power. Agility gives RAP & higher crit chance. Plain and simple, Crit = Damage.

My prefered level 70 hunter spec is 0/21/40. (scatter & aimed are a must for survival)

BM is arguably the best raid spec. I say arguably because if you have 700+ agi you can get a solid survival build that will give you 30% crit unbuffed and keeps the EW buff up for your raid. But without that much agi, you're not doing the damage that survival is capable of. However, crits can be an aggro management nightmare. Be warned.

As far as pet survivability. Get avoidance. They live longer. If they die, rez your damn pet. You shouldn't be running OOM BM spec anyway, if you gear right, so using that mana isn't going to cut your dps much. Moreover, if your pet is getting aggro off your tank with cower on, you need a new tank. Or you need to L2play.

Marks is gimp. Simple as that. Same rotation from a marks hunter, because of the slower speed, will simply not get the kind of dps that a BM build will.

And I'm wondering where you're using aimed shot? About the only use for that in almost any setting is getting a nice crit to help build MD aggro, but even then a nice distracting shot, a steady shot and an auto shot should be doing just about the same job and takes the same amount of time. If aimed shot is in your rotation (which if it is, I use that term loosely) quit playing a hunter.

And before you go ahead and tell me I'm wrong, I can sustain 750 DPS in a 10-man specced 41/18/2 in 3 blues and the rest Kara gear. In Gruul I've hit 925 DPS with some key heroisms and the various other buffs. BM is one of the premier raid specs.

Wow, grok nerd?

I've got this intense loathing and morbid curiosity mixing violently in my soul.
