Hi, first of all new here. Now for my question/s. It's as you might have guessed regarding Multiplayer Alliances. I set up a game for LAN, Team Alliance and I find out I can't team up with te other computers. I click on Diplomacy and 'try' click Alliance but it doesn't work. Then one more thing If two guys are on the same team do they have to share funds... just asking. And then finally why is it when I start an alliance game and all the computers are set to different teams I see each worker from each side on my base... did anyone get that last one?

In a mele or free for all game you cannot ally computers
There is a difference between teams and allys ; If two people are on a team they both share resources and controll the exact same units. If two people are allys they have seperate recources and have their own units.
??? (I don't get the last one)
Other:

In a free for all game no one can be allied or teamed
In a mele game humans can ally, and computers always ally other computers (so if you and 3 computers are in a mele game it's you vs 3 computers)

Sorry for not posting earlier. Net problems. Anyway, here goes:

Post #2: By the game room I presume you mean BattleNet. If so then thats a bummer 'cos I never come on Battle Net. Main reason is that where I live you have to buy net in net prepaid cards, you can buy service from an ISP but it's too costly. I use the cards and using them on BattleNet would be like a waste of money, it's like a Rs.100/- for 10hrs. (Bummer I know)

Post #3-4-5: So all that means I can't set alliance in LAN. But wait what's this

In a mele game humans can ally

SO now I am very confused!! Ally yes on LAN, Ally no on LAN?

One more question though what's the difference between Melee and Free For All? I don't see any difference.

Finally my last question revised. Seems even I don't understand it right!!

I'll try to explain in detail. I tried to set an Alliance game between me system and my brothers plus two extra comps. He was on Team 2 and I was on Team 1. He was Zerg, and I was (as usual) Protoss. But even though I was Protoss I had the Protoss Nexus, 2 Probes, a drone and a SCV! Same deal with my bro. Does anyone know what gives?

The question is kind of weird.

Yes! I know EXACTLY what gives. when you created the game, you selected either Team Free For All or Team Mele. I am not going to explain how team works right now, but heres the solution: Make sure you select Free For All or Mele as the game type when you create the game.

(note when you are on the screen where you chose your race, you will not see "team 1" and "team 2". Everyone on this screen is on thier own team.)

Now about Allying on LAN (by the way LAN is the same as battle.net, just not online)

When you create a game, weather you realize it or not, you are selecting a game type. It's under where you select the map you play on.

Free For All
Nobody can ally. It's every man for himself.

Mele
You start the game as every man for himself, BUT you can ally people once the game has started

You CANNOT ally computer players.
You CAN ally other human players.
Caution: Read below only if you must, it may confuse you.

Team Free For All
lets say there are 2 teams of 4 people each
Everybody under "Team 1" controll the same units and resources; that means that you all start with one nexus, and 4 probes, not 1 nexus and probes each, but only 1 to share.

Now, lets say the first person under Team 1 selects protoss, the second selects terran, the third zerg, and the last selects protoss. We hhave 2 Protoss, 1 Terran, and 1 Zerg player, right?
As before, all 4 players share the same units. BUT, rather than starting with 4 probes, you start with 2 probes, 1 SCV, and 1 Drone (notice what race each player selected above)

Team 2 also shares the same units, and can have multiple starting races.

Team Mele
(everything above applies here, as well as the stuff below)

Each team is considered one force that can be allied or an enemy.

lets say there are 4 TEAMS (4 forces) in the game. Teams 1 and 2 are all human players. Teams 3 and 4 are computers

team 3 automatically allies team 4 because they are both computers. Human players cannot ally anyone in Team Mele

I hope this post cleared things up for you and you can enjoy playing Starcraft.

I never knew pre set teams could ally other teams ingame? Then again I never play over lan.

In free for all if you are playing with computers they will fight each other and the same works for team melee, opposing computer players will not automatically ally each other.

Also melee is not every man for himself, computers are automatically allied.

Unimaginably confused right now!! Ok let me get this straight. I can ally in the game but not as teams right. So in order to ally I have to start a plain Melee and not a team melee... that's weird!

God Age of Empires was so simple!!

Correct, start a mele, and you can ally with other human players. But be warned, in a mele game all the computers automatically ally against you and any other humans in the game.

once you get to know starcraft then it should be very simple and easy to understand.
