hey i am making a metal gear solid map for multiplayer and i wanted to know if i can make a permanent mod so that others could do what i want for the map if i hosted it online. i also want to know if i use my mod and then host a game online does everyone else get to use my mod too? lastly i want to use certain sounds for gunshots and use music from metal gear but the wav files for the music end up being too long and people cant dl. also how do u replace gunshots with MG sounds? how the heck did DekuNut do it for his Shadow Experiment Map?????

To make a 'permanent mod', as you say, you would simply have to replace files in your patch_rt.mpq. I strongly advise you against doing this however. Nobody else would get the mod unless they downloaded it and ran it themselves, so you'd be on your own. And depending on the files you changed, there is a high likelihood of a desync (you will be dropped). As for your very large wav files, you'll either have to shorten the wav or find a compressor.

For your final question, I haven't played the map before, but other maps have used a system where if an enemy unit is killed (everything was one hit kills), it plays the .wav for the player, simulating a gunshot sound.

Your right about the one hit hit kills that makes a lot of sense but im gonna see if there is still a way to do it without such kills. Do you know if starcraft 2 is gonna make it much easier for us map makers to put in sounds and music without screwing up DL time?

This should be in M&M.

ok damn it, i tried using triggers to simulate gunshots for my map but it only works once and if i use preserve trigger it just keeps making the sound. how the hell do i make this work?

You have to use other conditions setting the trigger then. I'd suggest you to have that unit stalked by a location large enough to have the same range as it (meaning, trigger and location wise) and then whenever a foe unit enters that same location another trigger to set the gunshot sound. I think that it'll work somewhat nicely.

all you need to do is add an action to the trigger: set kills to 0
