I just upgraded to Vista Home Ult (because my job required me to), and suddenly StarCraft does not work. I installed, and ran the .exe, and I come up with a black screen. I can alt-tab, then close the program in any normal boot-to-the-head fashion. I also found that using compatibility modes does not seem to do anything. Any work-arounds other than dual-booting with another OS?

Addendum:
I restarted my computer and put it on compatability mode 95, and now it doesn't even get a black screen. It says it cannot find a required file, and to make sure my starcraft cd is in. It is. I can read the cd, but the game cannot see it, even when I run the setup from the cd.

Welcome to the wonderful world of windows vista. If you enjoyed things running smoothly and properly, I suggest leaving the wonderful world of vista.
On a slightly related note, Ive noticed a lot of fun mishaps.
-open too many browsers/windows and you will no longer be able to use most of anything, including but not limited to opening new windows, the recycle bin, left clicking and so on.
-sometimes internet explorer turns off at random
-games such as starcraft and dow don't read in game memory like game saves properly and my starcraft hardly ever has the right color with out using the Windows key to exit out 15 times.

I finally got it to run, but the colors are all messy. Any ideas other than tabbing up and down?
Since SC is an old game it most likely uses the "256 colours" setting so it's best if you try tweak it's compatibility mode to that too. ;)

or if you REALLY want to, you could set your display settings TOO 256 colours
