What are the 3 best AV programs existing atm? I'm afraid my computer is infected by something and that my AV (Symantec AntiVirus) is too weak to find it... :concern:

I use a free program called ClamWin. It works good, so far. I've had no problems or any viruses (that I'm aware of).

I haven't noticed a tremendous hit on my performance as well.

BitDefender, Kaspersky, NOD32
Used them all
Kaspersky unlike mentioned in reviews scans DEAD SLOW, im not sure about realtime protection but it is really good at detecting when scanning. A bit heavy maybe. Scans webtraffic, slowing you down but it can be configured. A lot of options to tweak actually, I really like that

BitDefender scans faster than KAV, 1h 30min for ~200GB. Excellent realtime protection, scans quickly starting up objects (or objects that are just needed from already running programs). Detected 4 items KAV missed. Also configurable a lot.

NOD32 is.. just nothing, im not sure if it does anything actually, it scans extremely slow i see no signs of active protection. But the webmoitoring thingy is good, probably not what you need now. I just don't know what different options do.

Ah yes, nod32 is the lightest, KAV comes second with loads of harddrive reads (slows down everything) and BitDefender is giving resource-hog a new meaning. It has probably 5 separate processes, loads of ram usage and very heavy on the system when updating.

err, why exactly? It's not as if Mac's are completely free of any kind of exploits ever. And everyone wanted to spend 2000+ on a computer to fix a problem with a free program or scan.

AVG, avast!, ClamWin are all good.

Trendmicro offers an online scan that is very very good as well (good to use if you don't run an AV program).

I can attest to AVG being light on memory for realtime protection, and it works fine for scanning (it even allows you to set its priority -- so for example, it will run a scan in low priority so it doesn't actually steal resources from stuff you're doing).

-NeoMeh, "hidden propaganda". And aye AVG is nice, but also Adware can be useful.

Oh definitely, built in ones never have the flexibility.. Sunbelt 4.2 is amazing, I can actually use my internet connection and it's not very heavy on the system, while it protects my privacy. (no tracking cookies in IE cache since running the firewall, not to mention that bit defender now is also helping out)
