View Full Version : Project Revolution: where is it now?

I used to look at Project Revolution (http://www.warboards.org/www.wc3campaigns.net/revolution) , but whenever you try to go to that site, it is not usable. Which begs the question, what has happened to it? is it dead? is it Indefinitely Postponed? or is it just getting one heck of a revamp?
Also, is the Yoda on here the same Yoda on PR? Cause if it is I DEMAND ANSWERS!

I thought they said they would continue work on the project, because SC2 is not going to be "starcraft in 3D", but a different game...
Last thing I heard anyway.

How can you spell "dead" then spell it wrong then immediately after? Or was that on purpose...in which case, the purpose was?

Sarcasm over the internet is hard to understand but w/e.
Company? Hmpf a bunch of guys working on a mod hardly a company :P And besides they picked the wrong time to make it. If they don't release it soon sc2 is gonna come out and no one will care about their mod.
*Meh* And since it wasn't properly ported to their new servers/site layout I may say that it's as if dead (for the time being at least). Heck, I sure wanted to play SC-BW in 3D... :(

As I said, the leader convinced the people to continue on as far as I know, they're pretty much done already anyway.
SC2 will not be SC1 in 3D, this mod will be ^^

Check out the units... AGAIN. SC2 is NOT a 3D StarCraft, go to the blizzard website and check out some of the new units and how they act.
AGAIN: SC2 is NOT SC1 in 3D (Project Revolution IS)

okay
1. We have more than 8 people working on this.
2. Something IS being planned, so hold tight
3. Yes, Skizot will be going to blizzcon
4. A LOT of work has been put into this, ESPECIALLY coding. What we release is only art and what you see. People don't realize how much code is needed to modify wc3 to starcraft.
5. last note, stay with us, you won't be disappointed

NOW, DON'T JUST POST WHAT YOU'RE NOT SURE OF TO SOUND LIKE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!
This guy is also part of Team Revolution, so don't try the "OMFG IT'S JUST SOME RANDOM GUY POSTING!" reply like most people normally would do.

hmm, then why not fix the official website then? without the official website, how do you think they will advertise their mod properly?
PR has been active for like 2 years now?

SC1 in 3D (Project Revolution IS)
Uhm... Sc and BW are 3D . Warcraft 2 is 2D, sc isn't. Compare the two and u'll see what I mean.
Besides just make a map which is only space and u'll see 3 dimensions :P

Open that map. Type in "black sheep wall" and look at the space. Explain to me how that is 2D.
It's called overlays and underlays, Matthew. There are several 2D layers on the map, with the lowest one being the space. When you move the screen, the space layer moves slower than the ground layer, to create the distance effect.
Starcraft is an 8-Bit (256 colors) 2D game, whose graphics were rendered with 3D technology. It looks good because of that, but the fact remains that SC itself runs on a 2D engine, and all graphics in it are PCX files (mostly stored inside GRP packets), that are basic 2D images.

So why the hell didn't they render it on a 2D engine? Meh w/e

The reason they made it LOOK 3D without actually being 3D is so that it didn't cost you money to buy a new computer to play it (lower system requirements) unlike how Total Annihilation was (which I still havn't really given a chance because I'm so use to how SC is, PLUS you can't make custom maps for that game).

I bet he's one of the people that thinks 2D can only be a flat cartoon drawing...
Do you think this is 3D?

Just the point I was illustrating (literally ^^), SC is just an optical illusion to LOOK 3D, much like that Isometric drawing ^^. However, because it IS 2D, there are limitations which the artist used to create the optical illusion.

I talked to Konstantin, the PR PR guy (hehe), shortly after the announcement of SC2. He said the project will continue, it's just that apparently all of their members are scattered currently. I wish I still had my interview with him about everything, but alas, it is on the computer that died.
