I'm a bit new to this forum (I signed up a while back but haven't used my account).
Anyway, I just got StarCraft and I've beaten all the Terran missions so far, and only had to restart one.
But online play is harder than vs. he computer, so I just want to know if there is anything that can help me not loose instantly vs. decent players (any basic strats or such.)
I seem to be doing alright with Terran at the moment, but this is only the missions vs. computers.
I'm not new to stratagy, I've played Warcraft III and II before, but only vs. insane computers in III, never online.

First thing you have to iIMHO, is go to gg.net or something and download quite a load of replays. Afterwards, try to mimic what they do, and avoid Fastest Map Possible games if you want to improve :)

I wouldn't say it's best to mimic replays that just shows that you can copy someones playing style. I'm not saying don't watch the replays but don't copy them learn from them. What I did back when I played is I just played, Get on Bnet find a good game with a decent map and just play. Develop a playing style that works for you, find out what works best and what doesn't work. If your getting stompted within 5 minutes play again until you can figure out a way to counter that. Practice practice ptractice thats all it really takes to become good.

If your getting stompted within 5 minutes play again until you can figure out a way to counter that.

You can avoid a little bit of that by watching your own rep and targeting the mistakes.

Also, consider that some strats are easier to pull off than others (not counting 4 pool cheeses and the like;)): for example, I've learned that Reaver+Corsair is almost unstoppable, but requires a higher ammount of skill than the one I have right now. Therefore, I go towards Templar tech in my PvZs.

A good templar rush vs zerg is always nice. Works well for terran to assuming they don't have turrits up. It depends on who your up against. I suppose thats another piece of advice, the strategy per game will almost always change depending on your opponint. If you are up against an offensive player your going to have to change your stradegy to match that and vice versa.

Well, some of the major diffrences between the StarCraft (campaign) AI, and other people is that the AI does not under any circumstance attack you (unless given the order via triggers), it also reacts very sluggishly to whats happening.
Whereas your playing a human opponant you'll notice them adapt to your stratergy immediatly, and even outsmart you when you think your the one outsmarting. You always have keep on your toes, you always have to making units, and you always have to keep expanding.

Well, thanks all, I'll go try it.
I need to learn to micro in StarCraft...it's way different than in WarCraft...alot harder.
No unit sub-grouping :(

There are plenty of micro maps out there, depending on your race. I have the Zerg pack, PM me if you want it :)

If anyone's needing a micro' pack, he/she has one for all the races over here (http://up.kupatrix.com/f/9/Micro_Control_Map_Pack_%28by_8882%29.rar). ;)

Micro isn't really important on our level of play, as long as you can get your money's worth out of your units(for example flanking lings around marines instead of sending them single file to die) then your doing alright. When you get build orders and good macro down then you can learn the fancy stuff like marine dancing or mut harass.

Well yeah, but by practicing right now he can avoid stupid stuff like suiciding 2 goons vs 2 zealots by attack-moving.
