Today i got the latest AIM upgrade, and installed weatherbug. its pretty cool, but it asked stuff like my houshold income and things. A friend on AIM told me that its spyware, so im virusscanning , but havent found anything yet. I kindof believe him.

What should i do?

I'm not sure if the weather bug is spyware but if you want to find out one of the best spyware destroyers is
spybot search and destroy1.3
also a goos thing to use with this is ad aware 6.0
I have both and they keep my computer in tip top shape

ALL "weather bugs" are SPYWARE.

You won't find it with a virus program though. Get ad-aware and run it. Run spybot also. Get these programs at download.com. Just search the name, these programs will come up.

Get rid of it immediately, believe me it is Spyware, and it's really a crappy program too (I had it once, does you no good).

Like the others I suggest using Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/), it's a great program and their forums are very very helpful.

Do all of these programs cost money? I downloaded a spyware detecting prgram once, and after detecting multiple programs, i tried to delete the spyware, but it told me that the free trial does not include the delete function, and that i would have to buy the full version to clean the files off of my computer.

why the f*ck is aim packaging spyware?!

Ad-Aware

Spybot Search and Destroy
http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022-10289035.html?tag=lst-0-3

Download these two programs. They are completely full-functioning free-ware programs, and the most widely used (probably the best). These programs do not come with spyware of their own. I recommend not using any other spyware search programs.

AIM has been packaged with spyware for a good while now. I know AIM 5.5 installs Wild Tangent (I still can't get the damn icon off my control panel, even though the program is long gone) and Viewpoint media player. This is why i'm still using AIM 4.3. Check http://www.oldversion.com if you want it.

As for spyware/virus/trojan removal, I recommend Hijack This (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html) (tutorial (http://hjt.wizardsofwebsites.com/)). It won't remove all the spyware files, but it will remove all the settings that allow it to be run automatically. Once it does that, you can just do a search for the files and remove them manually.

Ad-aware and Spybot Search And Destroy are good. I use them together with my Norton AntiVirus, Norton Firewall and Norton Internet Security to keep my computer free of viruses and spam.

lol, my friends computer found 2000 some, he had to restart his computer so it could find em all, also if you notice everytime you go on you get adware and spyware, so do it often, also if you notice you still get spyware you may be the victim of a hack (I had one too, I think it's called THC_HACK) you can download a program somewhere that "crushes" it, thus getting rid of it ;).

AOL hasn't necessarily been "evil," they just have a horrid program. Anyone else remember AOL 5.0? Crashed more computers than it got online. 6.0 wasn't much better, but it avoided a lawsuit. Basically, AOL needs to rework everything from the ground up and cut the extra junk. Then they might become "un-evil" again.
