View Full Version : SC:BW Won't DL Maps and High Latency Issue

I've been going everywhere on the web looking for help, so far no luck.
My first problem is that SC:BW will sometimes DL maps at a very slow rate, other times it just won't DL the maps, which sadly ends in me being kicked from a game or even banned.
Second problem, latency, when ever I try to create a game so that my friends can join, they simply can't join because the game will display a "High Latency" message to them, and I have no idea what's causing this or how to fix it, I've got DSL connection and a router which is updated. Firewall is turned off of course.
Any help would be much appreciated.
The same thing happens with my friend. We attempted to play over Battlenet earlier today. He was unable to host games as when we tried to join the latency was too high. He was also unable to download maps, so I hosted Big Game Hunters. The game was extremely laggy and the other players didn't receive any of his messages in game, only me, the host. He was the first to leave and as soon as he left the lag was complete gone and the game ran smooth.
It sounds like my friend is experiencing a similar or identical problem. He like you has an "Ultra Fast Cable Connection" and has no firewalls running.

Defenitely the same problem, and me and a friend bought BW on the same day a couple of weeks ago, I've been goin around every where and looking for a fix, but I'm sure Blizzard has recieved many complaints about this, I just hope someone has a solution to this annoying problem.

I have this AND another problem. Whenever I try to play the campaign, I click on the protess / terran / zerg figure standing there, and it just makes the click noise and then... nothing happens. The only way I can play it is if I close the program, open it, and VERY quickly go to single player -> Brood Wars -> Select profile -> Click figure. If I don't do it quickly enough, it doesn't work and I have to close the program and try again. Obviously very annoying. And my copy is legitimate (and I have the latest patch)... I didn't even know about illegal downloading in 1998 :/.
So, since I can't download online maps (I only like used map settings, not the actual game), and I can't play the campaign (the original disc let me play the original, though), I'm tough out of luck, I guess.
Opening up ports doesn't help. I have a cable modem and I have no firewall.
First I'd suggest you re-install StarCraft and see if that helps, assuming you haven't already tried this.

Reinstalling didn't help.
What I actually did was change the port number that StarCraft was associated with. Even though I had the original port number open, it was, for whatever reason, causing problems. Upon switching the port number via registry files, everything began working like a charm, even, ironically, my single player problems. I'm not sure why changing a port number would fix single player problems I had, but eh...
