How do you set the default priority of a program?

I use VLC when listening to music because it's much lighter on the memory. (16,000k vs 99,000k with wmp) However when doing other things like blending, using gimp/photoshop or even browsing the web the music gets "choppy". This is easily corrected by setting the priority of the programs process to "above normal". However I have to do this every time I open vlc. Now iirc, there was a way to set the default priority of a process so that, every time it opened, it would automaticly register as "above normal". But I can't remember how exactly that was done.

So how does it work again?

Open Task Manager (aka Ctrl + Alt + Del) and head yourself to the "Processes" tab. There pick the application you want and set it's priority by right clicking. :) The only doubt I have if it's temporary or after tweaked that setting will keep up even after reboot.

Not sure you can do that with VLC... You can with winamp :p

I'd personally suggest winamp 2.9x if you want a low memory footprint to just listen to music and stuff. Its what I use (I prefer VLC as a video player only). I love the 2.9x version of winamp :p
