Are there any nice open-source drivers for windows, preferable graphics drivers? Catalyst center for instance can be somewhat annoying at times so I was just wondering if there is an alternative.

You can get ATI drivers without the Catalyst software suite, if that's what you mean. Once you've selected your video card model and are taken to the driver download page, the heading Option 2 links you to the display driver alone without the bloat of the software suite, but also without the WDM drivers for using VIVO features.
If you want the WDM drivers, you can download the display and WDM drivers idividually by following the "Individual driver download packages, ATI Multimedia Center, and Avivo™ (http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/radeonxip-xp.html)" link below that Option 2 box. That page also links you to the AVIVO video converter drivers that you (unfortunately) need the software suite to run.
edit: miscomprehension ftw.
