problem getting online brood war

when i try to get online with sc brood war, it gets to the part with the 'accessing account', 'connecting to server', 'player info', and all that other stuff, then the screen just turns black.I try to open up windows task manager, alt+tab, windows key, alt+F4, but nothing works, ans its just stuck in the black screen mode, so i have to reset the comp.
Does anyone know whats causing this problem, or can anyone help me?

i cant go online on Brood War anymore aswell. Everytime I try to get onto battle.net it says it cannot tell what version I have. After I DL the patch manually, it says I have a virus on my computer that wont allow me access to Battle.net. It is really crappy, because I have McAfee anti-virus but it doesn't detect any viruses on my computer. Oh, and World of Warcraft wont work either (entirely).

it says I have a virus on my computer that wont allow me access to Battle.net.
it often says something like that even if you don't. it's just the most likely problem it detects. I've had it sometimes but it got fixed over time.
