So you think u have a good idea for a map?

Is it creative; does it stretch beyond the game concept of normal WC?

Do you know how to make it?

This is the contest to see if you can do this, it tests not how fun your map is, but how fun it could be. In this concept, all you have to do is make a DEMO for your gameplay idea.
In a demo, it is just supposed to show how this game conept is to work, using minimal AI or anything special for that matter, and MUST be one player (for this contest). For example, Sid's battleships is a good exampe of a demo, if he took away the counter for how many ships u destroy and the respawn of ships...or my game "winterland" (but not "Wanderers of the Northlands, which has a bunch more stuff)...so yeah get it? A demo is a simple thing-dont freak out. For those of you who are more familiar with my works, its like: you're not making skythrone, you're making Champions RPG- a much easier task.

Also, as u might know my work, ull know how much i like to make it not like Warcraft...thats what you are to do for this- and so, my maps are a good idea of what is not like warcraft (i am so egotistical)
The judging:

Creativity (UnWarcraftness)= 0 - 15

Potential = 0- 10

Glitter = 0-1

Most of the contest is based on "Unwarcraftness". That is based on how much the gameplay style is not like warcraft. For example: Azeroth Grand Prix- Great, Poke the Angry Ogre: Good, LOAP: fine, DOTA: terrible. Of course, u dont need to make entire games, just small demos. also, the problem with LOAP in this example is that it employs many ideas, while in ur demo u should only have one, or a few if they come together harmoniously into one idea, and the prob with DOTA is that item mixing is not a bad idea (except for the fact it is in many places) but the game idea itself is bad-so it bad.


Potential measures how fun ur idea COULD be, potentially, if it is put to use in a game. Also, I want bug free games, so if u have bugs, ull lose some points anyway.
So i know what u want me to do, in ur demo game u must add a way to tell me how the idea works, whether in the game or by notes in the map (no protected maps allowed).
Also, about potential-if u add notes within the triggers (in a section, so i obviously can see it when i scan the triggers) that tell of some game ideas where this game concept can be utilized, it might add point to your potential score, but never take away from (unless they are REALLY REALLY long, than i might take off points just because u annoyed me and tried to use the "shotgun" strategy).

Glitter is just polish so the game is not an eyesore and has SOME decoration. You have a little? Good job, you get that one point (so, dont focus too much on it). Also, polish will not effect other fields, for example, if u change the interface around a lot, it wont effect ur creativity score.

Oh, and u may use some ideas from other maps, but in the end the basic game concept must be yours.

Winners will recieve three wishes, fame, and reputation points if moderators permit it.

To enter, u must sign up- sign up by this friday, where friday is the last day (pacific time will be used)

The contest ends the friday after that- u must SUBMIT your demo by no later than the friday after that.

Two weeks (or one minimum)? Its really no problem. Most of your time will be devoted to getting an idea and the basics of how to get it working, otherwise it will take u no time at all...i just made one such demo this afternoon, "Phantom"(no opera) which i will submit once the contest is over.

Can it be AoS/DotA map-type,3 races crash with more then 20 mini games?Ok,you said DEMO,so I'll make demo without mini games,just few things.I'll leave you comments between triggers.I can do that 'till Thursday,okey?

well, really, u dont need to make it AoS at all, unless it is the onl way to demonstrate the new concept effectively. Also, you have over a week to do it, since it is only this coming friday when signing up must be done, and the friday after that when the demos are actually due, but whatever, it is up to you otherwise.

Suggestion:
And making the timetable dates concrete would help clearing a lot of doubts for the different time zones' members we've got, I'd say (for instance: signing up ends up this Friday, the 8th June at 0 GMT ??:?? hours). *Wink, wink*

Yes, so, more specific times:
Sign up Deadline: Friday June 8th, midnight (before June 9th)...Pacific time, thus:

12:00 Paficific time, 1:00 mountain time, 2:00 Central Time, 3:00 Eastern, and something else for Serbia.

Likewise, with the deadline for sending in demos, the day is Friday, June 15, midnight, with the same time zone rules.

It is Bruxeles (maybe I wrote it wrong),I'll find out when.

Somehow,it's different from othere's AoS maps,it isn't so much,but it is yet to be seen...

I'll finish it 'till 15th June. :)

If ain't mistaken, the Eastern time to be converted into 0 GMT (aka London Meridian) adds 4-5 hours on top of it, so in here it would be 7-8 am of the 9th of June. For Blacker and similars, adding 2 hours on my GMT time is the correct thing. So, for'em it'll be 9-10 am of the 9th.
*Meh* I definitely need a specific designation for your "Eastern time", 'Eredai. :P

Edit add: Then it's EST (Eastern Standard Time), thus it's -5 GMT. So, the signing curfew time in 0 GMT will be 8 am of the 9th.

Eastern time includes the coast of the eastern US, and pacific is the western coast, and the mounain and central are in between, eastern being I believe minus 5 from GMT

Hmm... Looks like a challange... But sadly my WarComp (WC3 installed comp ;) ) is cut off from internet so I may not be able to upload the map. But, yes, I am gonna try to make a "No Warcraft Relation map".

would be tuff to do otherwise...but couldnt u just send the heroes down an already specified path? After all, it only needs enough AI so that the player of teh demo sees what the new idea is.

Well...i have an Arena/PvP map(not a demo, but a fully released map) here that has a unique combat system that's probably never been used before. It's a LITTLE complicated so it may take some time to get used to the gameplay. Just read the QUESTS for instructions. If you still don't understand, PM me.

Also, do note that i'm going to REVAMP the system of the map a little to suit an RPG theme as i will be making an RPG map in the future based on the concept in this map. One of the things that will be changed is that instead of having the need to have the combo skill scrolls in your inventory, i'll just have the Hero consume it instead and have it automatically transfered into a "combo book" skill for the player to refer to. I will also be adding another 20 or so job classes to the map(it currently has 8).

Since V1.3 remained in dark ever since it was published. And this is only map that is not Warcraft related. (Umm... Sorry for the Archanathid model, I could not find a better one. Also to keep Filesize in limit.)
Here's the complete description on this map:
The survival map based on Highly popular map - Island Defense. but with a twist like "13lur"'s Sim Ant. The theme is Spiders Vs. Scorpions!

Well, my next map was supposed to be WotW, but anyway.

I did this map in two days. Just to test myself. And this is also beyond knowledge of Sam, that I have made this map.

The Aims for both Spiders and Scorpions are pretty simple...

Spiders
- Survive and Build a coloney.
- Defeat all Scorpions.

Scorpions
- Kill everything that is not allied to you.
- Defeat all Broodmothers to win.

The Scorpion is way overpowered than the Spiders. And this map has ability to have Three Scorpion players at a time. Thus allowing new players to play with experienced ones as Scorpions and gain understanding of the game.

The Spiders are simple humble creatures.

Players control the Spider Broodmother, which is a Hero. It must be defended at all costs. If the Broodmother Dies, you lose.
Broodmother can spin Webs and lay eggs to create the Breed. The eggs laid can be hatched into various spiders depending on the need. Of course, you cannot have more than 50 spiders (excluding Broodmother) at a time.

The spiders that can be hatched are of following types

Hatchling
- The Basic and lowest caste spider. Having no fangs or web glands developed. But super efficient at Life Essence gathering. In fac, Hatchling is the only unit that can gather Life Essence. It can store the life essence within self and use it anytime.

Spinners
- The slight up caste spiders, having a spitting attack. This is the only ranged unit in entire game. Spinners have a Slow Poison which makes up for their pathetic attack. But main use of Spinners is to Spin Webs. Though Broodmother is greatly efficient at spinning Webs than these, these spiders are still important as Broodmother is mostly busy with Breeding works. And no matter how many webs are spun, they always collapse after a while. So spinners can simply reconstruct the Webs. Also, the Spinners can spin the Nourishing Webs that restore health to the spiders. Only Soldiers do not benefit from these Nourishment Webs. (This was done for the balance against Scorpion)

Hatchers
- Broodmother's priority always goes to the Hatchers. These spiders have ability to hatch other Eggs and help restore Broodmother's mana, allowing her to lay more eggs. Hatchers can also lay two types of non-hatching eggs, the Storage Eggs and the Strong Eggs. The Storage Eggs come useful to store the Life Essence gathered by Hatchlings, and the Life Essence can be used through eggs. Strong Eggs provide the necessary "Wallage", as required by every survival map.

Soldiers
- The highest in spider minons tech tree. Soldiers are incredily powerful and adept at taking punishment. They also do moderate damage. This is your only way to defeat the Scorpion. Soldiers have a different Jaws developement than others, leaving them unable to feed themselves. Therefore they must be feed by Hatchlings using the Life Essence. If not fed, these spiders will starve and eventually die.

Eggs Tactics

Egg Sack
- An Egg sack has a Mana, which can be replenished by Broodmother or Hatchers, depending on Mana, the Egg can hatch into the spider desired, Example, the Hatchling requires 200 mana to be gainedm while Spinner requires 400.

Non Hatching Egg Sacks
Storage Sack
- Stores the Life Essence
Strong Sack
- Wall like heavy Egg.

Spider Resources
Food
- Obviously, the limit is 50. You can check the food at regular Food Column.
Life Essence
- Not exactly a resource, but yes. Life Essence is gathered in form of Items that can be carried anywhere or stored within the spiders or Storage Eggs. These work like Scrolls of Healing when used. This is the only way of keeping the Soldiers alive.

Enviornment
Bug Dens
- Required by both Spiders and Scorpions. The Bug den spawns the feed bugs. The feed bugs can be killed for experience for heroes upto level 5. However, spiders have more use of it. When the Feed Bugs are killed by Hatchlings, they drop the Life Essence! Hatchlings will kill the bugs in one hit and there is a 10% chance that Hatchling will collect Life Essence out of it.

Something More About The Map
As I already said, the map is simiar to both Sim Ant and Island Defence. But the maor difference is that you do not have a permanent base. You must constantly rebuild Webs. (Which is annoying if you solo).

Scorpions can be set to the Computers to have AI playing for them. This can be used for a balance in Scorpion's number. Or Single Player training.

And here's it's change log in case any of you would like to know.
Changes v1.3
- Fixed a bug showing Dead Scorpions on Minimap Pings.
- Spider Broodmothers now can come back.
When a Broodmother dies, a Potential Broodmother spawns at that location, The unit needs to aqquire enough mana, Either by nourishing or by Consuming enough Egg Sacks (Laid by allied Broodmother). Then, it can evolve into Broodmother.
- Scorpions ability - Spider Compass has a 120 Second cooldown. But it still shows all spiders, including the dead ones, Reason - Scorpinon sense them alike, from the scent, he cannot make out if it is alive or not. This makes Human player a bit little skiled to remember where killed Broodmother and make judgements which one is alive.
- Added a way to transfer units to other player. This includes no food count units i.e. Eggs and Hatchlings.

Changes v1.2b
- Fixed a Critical Bug
- Buffed up Scorpion.
- Added an Unsummon to the Strong Walls
- Now you can have only one Breeder per player. (Or so.)
(Even If you can get more, please do not get them as it causes impossible amount of Lag)

Changes v1.2
- A heap of Updates
- Added Spider Skillset
- Added a new Spider Type - Low Caste Breeder
- Hatchlings no longer count in your Food
- Improved the AI of Scorpions

Major Change!
- Implemented a Worker AI system
Hatchlings are now considered as Workers, and they have an Autocast Gather Essence ability. When set to autocast, they seek out the Feed Bugs by themselves and atack them till they get Essence. Once aqquired, they will return and store the Essence inside Storage Egg. If you wish to order them anything, be sure to turn off the Autocast first.
- Hatchlings Inventory
They now have only one slot
- Storage Egg
It no longer stores the RAW essence. Instead, it converts it into the Mana for self. Any Essence dropped inside will instantly be converted into mana
- Low Caste Breeders
They have an autocast Breed ability. When set, they spawn an egg each 10 seconds. Egg hatches self in 5 seconds and a Hatchling is spawned. Thus produced Hatchling will be auto assigned to Harvest Life Essence.
- Hatchlings and Bugs
Bugs now have Magic Attack and Hatchlings now have Immunity. thus Htachlings have no resistance from Bugs. Unless, a Scorpion drops by.

Changes v1.1
- Lots of Bug fixes
- Scorpions now have abilities.
- Web now lasts much longer than before.
- Hatchers and Spinners now lose health upon Laying eggs, Using Spray, Spinning Webs.
- Hatchers, Hatchlings and Spinners now take minor damage due to Starving. Use Nourishing Webs or Life Essence to keep them up. They take 5 damage every 30 seconds. This is indicated by the Yellow fluid-like effect on them.
- Spiders carrying and being able to use Life essence now have an art above them if they have Essence.
- Strong Walls placement now has the point target.
- Strong Walls no longer are able to store Essence nor can use it.
I take no credit for innovative idea, that goes to 13lur for creating Sim Ants. However, the entire Worker system and spawning, ownership transfers systems are made by me. I know that Sim Ants map has a "Auto Forage" system, but I have written my system from scratch and this map is no way related to Sim Ant except for the little concept, from which the SvS idea was inspired.

The version changes and little balancing stuff is all listed in the link above.

Generally, I know that we have to make new maps for a contest, but I'm extremely sorry for thrusting in an already made map. But currently I'm all packed up and damn busy. You'll notice it by my inactivity lately.

Hmm I have my own amazingly unpopular pvp map i would have liked to post. But I can see that I'm way too late. This is probably because I'm being spammed by warboards.
There may also be other replies, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again. I got that notice of a reply to several particular threads mabey 5 different times. Once for every time someone posted in one of those 5 different threads before i got to look at any of them. Yes its true i can just cancel the subscription to that particular thread but this is starting to become a more frequent occurrence. Someone should sort out this bug.

Being spammed by WB's, Bomber'? :o That's an extremely odd thing to occur. I don't think that it would happen just as a fluke of faith. Most likely, your PC is infected with add/spyware or virus. Try to follow these cleaning program tips (http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=28432) (if you didn't knew any) and see what it turns up.
