View Full Version : Fatest Map: Stopping Darkswarm w/ Zerg at choke?

Sure, I'm not the greatest player around at Fastest Map. (Before you post saying something like, "Fastest Map" is for newbies, please don't)
I'm decent w/ toss. I'm learning zerg, and I suck with them. Me and my part were Zerg and Toss. (I was zerg, and buddy was toss).
There was a zerg player in the top left, and after we killed his partner. We could not get through his choke point. He had lurkers at the choke, with hydras, and just kept dark swarming. I couldn't get close enough to do anytning, nor attack.
My partner broke through w/ a Corsair, Dark Templar, Reaver Combo followe dby dragoons.
With zerg, I could not get through the choke. Does anyone know how to counter dark swarm, lurker combo while zerg?
Let me know.

I am not sure if this works in fastest possible maps or anything because I haven't played those maps for around 6 months but I think you should have went mass mutas, and go around the choke.
Oh yeah, you might want to cut back on the amount of fastest possible maps you play. Regular maps are more fun.

plague/ultra is your best bet i would think.

I go around the choke usually - with the muta/guardian combo.
I'm just wondering how to get through the choke. Does plague work on burrowed units?

Plague does not work on burrowed units.
Spawn Broodlings does, but you'll need quite a lot of queens.
If he doesn't have too much lurkers you could use ultralisks or lurkers with swarm and something to kill his ovies, but if he has a lot of lurkers burrowed(>24) you can't get trought the choke.

look its simple if all his defense is at the choke merly have your partener make several reavers and have an arbiter with recall and move the arbiter inside his base to recall the reavers then while the reavers distract his forces send your mass zerg units to the choke point and voila u win

Well, yeah.... I could do that., but I wanted to know how to get through w/ zerg.
I got through one of them by strategic killing of the defilers, and using guards to kill lurkers, then sending in ground force. It worked pretty well, but, if the person was smarter, he would've protected his defilers better.
Still, it's one hard thing to get through while you are zerg.

Don't stop it, prevent it. Hit sooner, before he can get defilers.
But if you're too slow:
Don't be afraid to use queens to get at his defilers if he does, because broodling can go through burrow provided you have detectors. Draw his units out of the mist and then broodling the defilers once they unburrow to recast. You can do this by moving in a few of your units and then making them retreat quickly; units will auto-acquire them as targets and pursue. Use your own defilers to plague his units, and dismiss your hydralisks for adrenalings which are melee and are actually helped by the dark swarm. Parasite his units to see his base or scout with cheap scourge to find his defiler mound and then destroy it so he can't make any more. A common mistake when people fight zerg enemies is to target hatcheries. While this is good because it slows unit production, a better tactic is to destroy the base buildings because most zerg players only build one of each, two at most if upgrades are to be had. This will eliminate his ability to make units no matter how many hatcheries he has, at least until he can mutate a replacement.
Drop units from behind to strike at the defilers because they usually linger at the back of the armies. A well placed ultralisk or even a few zerglings can take down the relatively weak defilers before your opponent has a chance to react. Scourge all his overlords if he keeps them packed so he can't replenish his troops, and target his miners with mutalisks while he's busy battling at his choke so he's too broke to keep up with your onslaught.

Generally good tips, I'd say, except the lurkers, who have no problem attacking under a dark swarm, will shred the zerglings to itty bitty slimy clumps of goo. The Queen - broodling - defiler is good though.
Or, if you parasited any of his overlords, you could try finding an unprotected area of his creep, and build a Nydus canal. Mostly doesn't work, but when it does it can be quite devestating. For him, that is.

Eh, I don't bother closing them if they're dead because they usually just... die.

Hey Blupp--you idiot--stop reviving 5 month old money map threads.
Hey, Captain
I'm new to the forum, and read everything of interest. That includes 5 months old threads, since I'm not really looking at when they were posted.
If it's so idiotic to revive old threads, then maybe someone should make sure to close the threads, so they can't be "revived"?
I'm sorry for wasting the...what...13 seconds(?) of your life that my revival of this thread caused you.
I'm sure you'll find me reviving other old threads too, if I think I have something I want to say about it. That is, unless they're closed, of course.
Let me take this opportunity to apologize for those, in advance:
