Hello, and welcome to the first ever Solar Diplo Open. This is a major rule-change and map-change variant created by yours truly. This will also be the first map (to my knowledge) that uses my guidelines for ASCII Diplomacy (http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=1406). Rules are as follows:
Countries:
Countries are now planets, with no division upon the planet. Neutralplanets with SCs have special rules. Planets are put in a solarsystem, which is divided into 4 quadrants. Planets rotate around thesun at various speeds, based on how close they are to the sun, and howmany planets are in the system. Here is how long it takes each planet to move through a given quadrant in years:
o--------------o---------o---------o---------o---------o
|Table 1..thing|6 planets|7 planets|8 planets|9 planets|
o--------------o---------o---------o---------o---------o
|Planet level 1| .5 | .5 | .5 | .5 |
o--------------+---------+---------+---------+---------o
|Planet level 2| 1 | 1 | 1.5 | 1.5 |
o--------------+---------+---------+---------+---------o
|Planet level 3| 1.5 | 2 | 2.5 | 2.5 |
o--------------+---------+---------+---------+---------o
|Planet level 4| 2 | 2.5 | 3 | 4 |
o--------------+---------+---------+---------+---------o
|Planet level 5| 2.5 | 3 | 3.5 | 4.5 |
o--------------+---------+---------+---------+---------o
|Planet level 6| 3 | 4 | 4.5 | 5 |
o--------------+---------+---------+---------+---------o
|Planet level 7| - | 4.5 | 5.5 | 6 |
o--------------+---------+---------+---------+---------o
|Planet level 8| - | - | 6 | 6.5 |
o--------------+---------+---------+---------+---------o
|Planet level 9| - | - | - | 7 |
o--------------+---------+---------+---------+---------o
|Amount of SCs | 3 | 4 | 4 | 5 |
o--------------+---------+---------+---------+---------o
Rotation happens AFTER moves have ben processed.
There are 10 solar systems:
2 with 6 planets
3 with 7 planets
2 with 8 planets
3 with 9 planets
The 7 solar systems with 6, 7, and 8 planets are the ones where players start. In these systems, players pick 2 of the lanets with SCs to be their own, and then choose to have a IS or SF (see below) placed there. This does not take up a season. IS must be placed legaly (see below).
SCs:
SCs are colonized planets, and occur as noted above. Neutralplanets with SCs on them act like they have a Solar Force(see below)stationed on them. That is, you must have support to take a neutralSC. You may build at any SC you capture.
Phases:
Years are now Marks, and last 8.5 years. Spring is now Sinta, and is 2 years long. Fall is now Anda, and lasts 5 years. Winter takes 1.5 years. Winter always happens, no matter if there are builds or not. Retreats are instantaneous. This means a Mark lasts for 8.5 years, come hell or high water.
Armys/Navies:
Armys are now Solar Forces (SF). They may only move to planets that are adjacent to them both in orbit and in quadrants.Regarding supports: if itcan't move there, it can't support there.
Example: Planet A is the closest to the sun, in quadrant 1. Planet Bis the next closest, in quadrant 2 and Planet C in one more out inquadrant 3. If a SF is on planet B, it may move to planet A or C, and only A or C, becasue they are in adjacentquadrants, and adjacent orbits. If either of them were in the same quadrant as B, the SF on B could move there as well.
Navies are now Inter-Solar Forces (IS). The rules for ISes are almostexactly oppisite from SFs. They may not move to a planet in the same quadtant as they are. The only other planets they can move to are the ones in the adjacent quadrants farthest from the sun in that quadrant. They may move between specific Solar Systems on designated paths. Theymay convoy SFs between solar systems. It takes 2 turns to move to another solar system. You must account for where the planets will be in your order. If a unit is at the destination planet when your IS arrives there, it acts as a normal move; without support, it will bounce. If the planet is not where you thought it would be, it bounces. Again, it takes two turns to move between solar systems, so with carful planning you could cause a IS to bounce indefinitaly. Regarding supports: if it can'tmove there, it can't support there.
Convoys work by having either an IS go to a planet with a SF on it with this order:
Inter-Solar Force Pickup Solar Force At <planet>, which can be shortened to IPS <planet>.
This variant is for 7 players, starting in the year 3001. When nations are assingned, player will be able to choose where to place their two starting units, and what they will be, within their home solar system.
The forces:
Golden Path
Imperium
Hundred World Congress
Confederacy
System Lords
United Powers Leauge
Green Way
The players:
Whiteknight - Imp
TheGreatBrain - HWC
Modred - SyL
Maegtelluma - UPL
Shinigami - GoP
I will not be playing in this, as I need to devote my full attention to being a GM, and I need to be able to help people with their orders.
I will be posting the maps in a Zip later today.
