View Full Version : Problem with saving to game cache

I have problem with saving variables to game cache, to load them on the other maps. I've tryed it on other test maps and it worked, so on this map should be a mistake somewhere.

Please, check it and try to find a mistake. After starting the map go on north to magic rune, to start saving to game cache and finish map:

Alright.Here they are.Again.
So thats like a mini mision.I strongly sugest that you try it out.Is hid some items throughout the map,so that you can see that it works.Put these maps in the maps/frozen throne/scenario folder.If you put them somewhere else than it wont work.Thats the basics for game cache.

In the world editor,copy the trigers into your map,set the right path for the map to load and there you have it.If it still won't work than i'l pm you and tell you what to do.Oh could'n post them here so heres the link

GOD DAMN IT!!!Then I supoce I should look your map.But I don't know if it will work.My sugestion-get frozen throne.

As I can see its perfect.Just put the right map to load your map and thats it.
For the path:The path starts with maps/ than if you put your maps in scenario than its like this maps/scenario/[mapname].w3m and thats it.The trigers are working fine.I tried to set the path to some of my maps and works.To you its either the path or the custom units.

Well, it's not working and thats why I'm getting out of myself with that f*cking map editor.

The game caches are difficult to handle.
Let me illustrate with few simple triggers.

Ok, first place a Paladin on a map,

Trigger Save Hero
Events
- Player 1 types -save as an exact match
Actions
- Create game cache from TestMap.w3v
- Store Paladin in Last Created Game Cache with Catagory Test and Lable Hero
- Save Last Created Game Cache
- Remove Paladin from the game

The action is bold is important!

Trigger Load
Events
- Player 1 types -load as an exact match
Actions
- Create game cache from TestMap.w3v
- Restore Hero from Catagory Test from Last Created Game Cache at Center of Playable Map Area

The restore action is different, I don't have WorldEdit open at the moment, But it's similar.

Now, while saving for a campaign, the "Lable" serves as the Hero's handle, example, " Save Arthas", where Arthas is the Lable.
And Catagory is the Campaign Map, Example - Save <your Hero> as Arthas of Mission One in Last Created Game Cache. Here Mission One is the Catagory, now.. When you'll load for Mission Two.. the Loading Catagory should be Mission One, but at the end of Mission Two, you'll save in the catagory of "Mission Two" and use that to load for next, and so on.

Game Cache comes handy for spell making... It's a simplest way to store some integers, units etc. for bringing in some MUI. Ofc, you must know how to use "Handles". But Locals serve better in any case. As Game Caches cannot be created on unwritable disks. ;)

I'll soon post a tutorial about Game Caches, a nice increment in my siggy. ;)

They are saved, but cannot be loaded. Unless, you have used same "Custom Object Data" for all the maps.

ufff...

1.Sid,that can help me for my campaign too.
2.As uberfoop said,Units in Game Cache can be loaded ONLY between campaign maps!Ofcourse they can,how others did that?

They are saved, but cannot be loaded. Unless, you have used same "Custom Object Data" for all the maps

It's not difficult,just export all units data from one mission,then import into the other and so....so....so...until campaign is ended :)

Hello!!!You cant save custom units!!!!!!!!!Even if you make an copy of it!!!!Have you tried my maps.It works.In the same map make a cutom unit and put it to save that one.Will it work?NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Sorry Candy but i don't think that you'r idea would work,still could you refer to make a epic map?

Unfortinately,you did something like are those maps put in Campaign Editor?Nooooooooooooo...I can't remember map's name,but guy did that and works fine...Ok,I was on his 2. cached map and Gnoll with 31231415 damage killed me...:P

No,not yours,I'm talking about "someone's" map,not yours.But I played your's and I can't get to the end,they kill me.YOU MUST SET VICTORY AND DEFEAT conditions...

Some guy made gnoll with XXX damage,my hero was on 450 HP and gnoll just moved his fingers and I was dead,brghm...

So now my map can't be tested because its too hard!Sorry for Illidian being so weak!!!And his naga too!!

btw:It works if you cant win type a cheat or add more units!You don't have to kill all units just get a item( to see if it works ) and get to the boat!That is all.

Firstible, I can't understand, why using RoC version is so bad?? Ofcourse there are much less capabilities, however it's more difficult for you to help me.

But now it's unimportant. I already have Frosen Throne version! (finaly I've managed with this :P)

But lets go back to Game Cache. warinserbia, I don't agree with you. I've made test map, and made similar triggers like in that 'Kopia Dragon Hunters' and it worked. Wierd is, that on Kopia Dragon Hunter it doesn't work, despite of the similarity - here's the problem.

Sid of course I remember about saving Game Cache. ;-)

Nice map by the way.Are you from Russia?
I'm not Russan, but Pole. Well, Triggers are important, but appearance too. But It doesn't matter now, I've removed that map - because of Game Cache. :concern:

Its not bad that you use RoC,only that...everyone is doing with the patch or FT.If we make now a map with game cache and it requires the FT,you can't play.And we could make a RoC map,but I don't know what options are for RoC.The best thing is that you get as soon as possible TFT and if posible the 1.21 patch.

I am finishing the roc version of the map in help with game cache thread.I will post it as soon as I finish it!

Both of you,I already posted tutorial some time ago.There is where everything is explained.Find LINK in warinserbia's thread I think it's called Game Cache and read it.Do you think that Blizz' made game cache for only their own units.Kidding me.

There sure is *Cough*WinMPQ*Cough* but then I don't know how to make'em be read by the game (due to patches and all that kind of jazz), even if I highly suspect that they can be made to be read from the map being played. ;)

I know that WinMPQ is used to open mpq files.But can it realy be done?I mean what to put in it and etc.

I would try but then...somehow would not work and the whole game will die.Then I'l have to reinstal the game.Its not that its hard to me but I finaly repaired the patch(somehow)and I realy cannot aford to lose it.

Oh.Exlent you got FT.And you tested my map.So did it work?Or you can't win like Blacker?

Ever heard of copy-pasting the *.mpq file(s) before tweaking with'em? That's what I do and never had to reinstall nothing due to it. If it didn't work put back the one you've copied in the game directory, with the same name the original had, and then play. It's that simple. ;)

I've made another map and made Triggers exactly like on gamecachetut1.w3x and gamecachetut2.w3x.
Result? Still not working... :confused:

I dont get it.My cache works and his don't!!!Oh well.I tryed to copy my cache from gacmecachetut1 & 2 and it works.The best thing you can do is to use my cache from my maps.Just copy them in your map and that is it.

The best thing you can do is to use my cache from my maps.Just copy them in your map and that is it.
Every way is good if it works. So I'll try copy from your map, but problem is, I have much more variables to save there.

Could anybody else do something with that?

IT WORKS!! At last! :P
I copied triggers frm gamecachetut1 & 2 and now I can store Units. Still problem was the variables, but it's solved now too.
Do not store variables in labels with space. For example "My Label", it must be "MyLabel", then will be stored. :D
