AT WORLDS END WAS SO FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!

Very insightful review. And it's "useless information", not "unuseful".

Does anyone, other than ZergEater, know if this movie is worth watching?

In my opinion, it's so-so at best. Kiera Knightley is still hot, Orlando Bloom is still a pretty boy, But Johnny Depp isn't in the foreground quite as much as in the past films. The ending was a little anticlimactic, and it didn't really end anything either.
It's a little guilty of the same shortcoming as Spiderman 3, trying to cram too much plot into too little time, but without the idiotic device of a single character having a 3-minute speech to glaze over what could have been an important/interesting plot line.
I'd say it's worth going to see in theaters, but if you can, go during one of the discounted time periods: morning, matinée, whatever.

I went in the early afternoon before schools let out for the day, and it was certainly a much more enjoyable film without a theater full of snotty high school kids and obnoxious grade school kids.
I also highly recommend seeing it in DLP if your theater offers it, the picture quality is absolutely amazing.

I still don't understand what happened in the first two movies. Too many pirates and plots and body parts flying around everywhere.

Pirate lords of the four corners of the earth?
Dead giveaway that the plot is fail.

I'm definitely going to watch it tho. It is entertaining :D

It was actually a lot better than I expected it to be.

Did anyone besides me stay all the way to the end of the credits? There was a little something at the end that sort of added to the plot, so if you missed it, poo poo.

I'm not a fan of the movie(s). So there!

I'm a fan of the soundtrack. ;) Klaus Badelt/Hans Zimmer have large quantities of win in their writing hands.

At World's End was absolute crap, really. The only reason I didn't sleep for longer than 10 minutes was Johnny Depp's performance. There was barely any coherence within the scenes, and of the dozens of story lines only about 5 got finished. The fact that it was so extravagant (the part where they get married as they're fighting) made it more silly than fun. The movie was so self aware and attempted to bring the audience into it ("That doesn't sound very 'Piratey' does it?") instead resulted in a shitty movie experience.

Don't watch the movie. It's a 3 hour shitfest with a couple of flashy lights.
Oh and Keira Knightly gets an ORGASM when Bloom SIGHS next to leg. Damn, that guy must be good, I wonder what happens when he sneezes.

Yes, but only because I heard there was something at the end.

It was kinda poor, as 'little tidbits after the credits' go, IMO.

All it really confirms is
that Turner actually acted like a man for once and got Swan on her back.

Hi five!

Much better than the 2nd one though. I personally felt Depp's performance in the 2nd film really wasn't that great.

Haha, TheListener, my friends and I laughed at Keira's erogenous knee too.

It does have a shot at 'being epic' and is to a degree successful. It's also total tripe, but enjoyable tripe at that. Some of the stuff that happens is ridiculous, but Sparrow and Barbossa go some way towards fixing its shortcomings.

Yeah, actually, Barbossa kicks copious amount of ass. I actually think he's probably my favourite character in the film.

Chow-Yun Fat was quite good as well. Not show stopping, but good.

At World's End was the best I've seen out of all the PotC movies. More twists more funny stuff and Johnny Depp's Pick-Up Lines were all too hilarious!

Oh and those two soldiers became pirates in the end and had too many cameos but it was good. ;)

I don't know about the twists. I mean, 2 is enough for any movie, maybe even three if it stretches beyond the 2h30 mark, but the consistent barrage of betrayals and random crap just made me feel stupid... Kind of like when I submit arguments into the Intellectual Roundtable :P

So erm I didnt watch the movie till after the credits can someone please explain what happened then? :concern:

So the film was so-so; the 1st was better and the 2nd wasn't necessarily better but it had a nice ending imho

I had the choice of watching this or 300 for the 4th time.

I chose 300.

The PotC trilogy reminded me of the Matrix trilogy. First one was kick ass. 2nd one seemed cool at the time, but is now largely forgettable, and the 3rd one kicks ass compared to the second one but doesn't hold a candle to the first one. I mean hell, even the main character sorta dying is pretty much was screaming "REVOLUTIONS YOU IDIOTS." at me.

No, Pirates just sucked. The first half had so many betrayals it wasn't funny, and the film itself wasn't even funny. One of the biggest parts of the previous films was humor. There was next to none for me in the 3rd one. The fighting in the 3rd one was good, but not up to the par set by the others. There was about 5 different plots going on, none of them were resolved in a satisfactory manner for me.

Face it, the 3rd was wasn't as good as the others. It'd be a better movie if it didn't have the shoes to fill, but it is not a worthy successor.

In my opinion it's exactly like the Matrix series.

1st was best.
2nd was slightly worse.
3rd was shite

It was kind of like the same for PotC.
I believe One was good enough. I felt like it didn't need to have a sequel.
Second I was a little disappointed. It got a bit draggy in some scenes. Served as a candle to the 3rd movie.
Third was a little better. Although Jack started off in another adventure chasing the Black Pearl like in the first one, again. A barrage of twists and turns comes at you and makes your head whirl.

The thing with the Matrix was that the sequels had been planned from the start. The PotC sequels were clearly just another cash-cow (I severly doubt they'd been planned before PotC was released.)

I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but it's how I feel about it.

Well, most of you will call me a pansy for this (Kong, no @ you.) but I thought the third was the most epic and ass-kick worthy of the three.

However, regarding Jack we're more or less right back where we were at the start of Curse of the Black Pearl, with the exception that the crew is no longer cursed. The whole Davy Jones/Tia Dalma/Calypso thing never really was resolved, we see his heart stabbed, he falls into the Maelstrom/Whirlpool and that's it. No idea what happens with Calypso afterwards. No idea what happens to Port Royal, seeing as how Gov. Swan is now dead, and Beckett got blown to pieces... the Royal Navy of England just sorta disappeared... meh.

For the parts of the story that were left blank and more or less silenced by the Easter Egg after the credits, the action and one-liners made up for it in my opinion.

Just came home from watching World's End. I fckn WORSHIP Barbossa atm.***

I really liked it, although it didn't keep me from getting bugged by certain... things

SPOILARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRS!
First off, I hated how they kept pulling characters and plot devices out of the proverbial arse. I mean, the Pirate Court? That Teague bloke who apparently can kick everybody else's arse, but only shows for like 5 mins... and who also is a Rolling Stone and Sparrow's dad or something.
Oh, and let's not forget there are pirate lords all over the earth, who have an assembly that can imprison a god and has a democratically elected Pirate KING. Geez, sounds like pirates could replace the UN any day. Although, that would be awesome, I have to admit...
It also makes me think they were trying to get the message across that "pirates have diversity. Diversity is cool!", which is every bit as full of fail as that scene in spiderman 3 where he swings in front of a huge waving american flag. Pfeh.

Then there's the Davy Jones/Tia Dalma*ahem*, pardon, Calypso love affair, which is just a huge letdown. Ok, not only did it end rather unsatisfyingly*, but really, there was so much room for improvement. First, Fenguin tells Elizabeth she's Calypso... seriously, where have I seen this "previously unremarkable hero/ine discovers his/her true destiny as a god/chosen-one/royalty" thing before? Oh, right, everywhere...
Then, only half a minute later you have Barbossa calling Dalma Calypso. Ok what the heck?
It makes so much more sense that Dalma is Calypso, so why waste time with Elizabeth? To create suspense as to whom really is the goddess? To justify Fenguin making her captain? Seeing how Dalma has magic powers and gets that horny look every time she clutches that metal heart of hers which is an exact copy of the one Jones has, I'd rule out suspense. But really, there's no need to justify Elizabeth being appointed as captain, seeing how she was the only one around at the time Feng dies. Too much unnecessary drama.

In spite of that, I insist, I liked the film a lot. Very good effects, fighting, and it kinda had a shot at being epic.
I enjoyed the part where Norrington gets redeemed... sort of. At least when he died I didn't have the distaste I felt for the guy in the previous movies. Although it could owe to the fact that I realised the actor also plays Steve in Coupling >_>
Oh, and I loved the asian ships... and the voice of Sri Lakshmi... or whatever the fick his name is o.O**

Overall, it was a good one, although not as good as the first one. I particularly enjoyed the last bit with Jack at the end. Reminded me of something :)

*About Elizabeth's G-spot knee, I barely noticed that part. See, I was too busy reading the words "LOL SEQU3L IN THE WORKZ" which were flashing in red across the screen at the moment. Funny thing though, I think nobody else noticed them...
**Yes, I know Sri Lakshmi is the Hindi goddess of fortune. I just can't be bothered to remember the squeaky bloke's name :P
***I was supposed to post this last night at 1 AM but this rabid bunny got jammed in my internets' tubes. ph00

I recently found that Teague was the surname of the infamous pirate Blackbeard, so that's a neat throwback, imho.

I prefer the real-world pirates. Those guys crack me up with their AK-47s blind-firing over tarps. LOLSOMALIANS.
