A terminally ill kid asked for a wish related to WoW to the Make-A-Wish foundation. Blizzard accepted, and made some cool changes (which I thought was cool for them).

This thread reminds me why I have so much respect for Blizzard. They might not release a decent WC patch for a year and a half, but this is just plain brilliant. :)

Blizzard is a great company, but the Make-A-Wish foundation is known for getting impossible stuff done as well. It's also threatening, if they approach you and you deny their request. You end up looking bad in the community. Blizzard would get negative rep for that, and that's not good for publicity.
But I <3 Blizzard. And I think they would have done it regardless of the Make-A-Wish foundation. :)

Blizz probably would have granted Ezra's wish even w/o The make a wish foundation. they just sped things up. Although i wish that he had wished to see some inside stuff for SC2 ;)
+ rep for Blizzard

Not bad Blizzard, not bad at all.
That was a very nice thing for Blizzard to do. But no doubt they've helped their own image in the process.

I guess I can truely say that cancer is a bitch, my mom has it. Quite frankly when one of the best gaming companies does this sort of thing its then that you know that the game you've been playing for ten years is still worth playing. I honestly dont care about replay value, I care about the values of the company that makes the game. Blizzard has always had a spcial place in my heart and now its got an even better one.

I'm really not sure what sort of response should go here. The overwhelmingly obvious response would be a nice, elongated, "Awwwww...isn't that nice." For some reason, that doesn't seem appropriate; it's a bit too easy and allows you to ice over the grim facts of this kid's life without really thinking about it. Then again, I'm not really sure what value we would find in thinking about it.

Well if you want to look at it that way I was just commenting on the fac that I'd rather play a game made by a company thats willing to do something for people other than making money. I guess its kindof like the rep system we have on warboards.
Thats cool, now we must get our hands on that crossbow!

Quick! Someone act lke an ill child and ask for secrets of SC2 and a working beta!
Jokes aside, that was a very nice thing to do for that child, going out of their way to grant a childs wish. I DO feel very bad for the child though, hope he heals.
Personally, I'd ask for some high-tech crap so other players would go OMG l337 H4><, R3P0r7 HEEM! But that's just me.

Nice job Blizz! I know what's it's like to be really sick and seem kind of hopeless. It's people like the ones at Blizzard that really show you how much good there is still left in the world. As for people like GA who think that they only did it for the publicity, God put people on this earth to do good and to help others and that's exactly what Blizzard did. They already have everything they could ever want, they could have refused and no one would have ever known about it and the fans would still be fawning over their greatness. And as for Modred Ezra has accepted his fate and moved beyond it, so there is no need to feel sorry for him. Once he's fulfilled what he was meant to do, he can move on and we can honor his accomplishments, not mourn for his loss.
btw PH the middle of your signature looks like a couple of boobs kekeke.

Yea man, me too. My mom had breast cancer in 06, but she beat it. She recently (yesterday) had the second masectomy to prevent anything in the future. It's pretty hard stuff to watch someone go through.
It's so easy to buy people.
But I believe an ends justify the means. Who cares of their motivation, they made a kid happy.
That's kind of cool... but I'm finding it hard to imagine the people who wouldn't do it. That said, it still shows something that the kid felt like he could ask.

If I wan terminally ill, then my wish would be to:
1) Tour Blizzard
2) Let me into all of their secrets... (like the secret, any unanouced games... etc)
3) Play Starcraft:Nova
4) Play Starctaft II
5) Make them let me into all of their games.

I would get them to let me have a hero unit that looks like an older version of me, co0mlete with some voiceovers in SC2.
But yeah, go blizz!

"I asked him to think about why he likes to play WoW and one thing he said was he likes interacting with people he doesn't know. No matter how crappy things are going on the outside, in the real world, he can be strong and successful and really turn heads in WoW." That is really sad. His only happiness comes from coding on a digital avatar. Man, what a bitch... at least blizzard did good by him.

You're on a gaming forum where people play games that are nearly a decade old with the fervor of a crusader knight in 1100 AD. I'm not seeing what's so sad.

I can't see how a company could turn a kid like that down. Oh, wait, EA.
Blizzard have always been awesome like that - always a Human feel (conveyed by humour, mostly).
And I'd just get an awesome sword named after me *nodnod*

HUGE +rep to blizzard for doing that, regardless of how it helps their image it was an amazing thing to do...
umm. i dont know if this is kinda rude, but just out of curiosity, does terminally-ill mean that the
kid is going to die or is dying?
if thats what it is then i made myself feel bad...

when something is terminal, it means with the current knowledge of medicine, he will die.
