What do you all think about the inclusion of 'scrapped' units (and perhaps even a few SC 1 units) in the new map editor?
Perhaps some sc1 units? They announced that sc1 units would be included BEFORE they announced that scrapped units would be included.
& The idea is as welcome as ever.
Oh, I wasn't aware of that >.<

What's not to love about it? Great idea.
yeah, nice idea that one... now the mapmakers could do something really good

everyone loves more units to use for a K&K game.

I can see zero reasons why not to include old units, and plenty of reasons in favor of it. So, I'm happy. I just hope they include Dark Archons. Those were kick-ass.

Yes, I am definitely looking forward to Starcraft 2 especially for the map-making aspect of the game. I don't know as much about the Starcraft series, but I do know that Warcraft 3 thrives on custom games. Blizzard will surely take this into consideration.
I am satisfied that there aren't going to be heroes in Starcraft 2, but I do hope that they include a base-unit hero in the Scumeditor. That should prove helpful to the many map-makers out there. Do you guys agree or have different opinions?

Explain just what you mean on "base-unit hero" and I'll answer you. From the sounds of it, I dont particularly like it, but options are options.

Sorry for not clarifying. Basically, it would be a hero in the Scumeditor that map-makers can base this unit off of to create more heroes. This would be for the sole purpose of custom games. If you have ever experimented with the Warcraft 3 Worldeditor, in layman terms, it would be the unit you "right click and copy then begin to edit." Hope that helps. If not, let me know.

Ahh, I see. I wouldnt be opposed to that at all. Its just another feature for mappers to tinker with.

whats the point of having that type of editor when the learning curve is that steep?
Lol hopefully this time, we get a ReadMe.txt file that will actually explain the Editor, instead of having to learn on our own.:smirk:

Further it allows you to add new units to the game without hex editing, IIRC

I don't understand at all the thing that lilsniper explained with the "base-unit hero", but I thought in something that could be the thing he explained.
It's a hero creator or something. You could create a hero with a normal unit, for making new heroes for campaigns or UMS. It's like the heroes that never appear in SC1 like Gui Montag or the Kukulza, but you can create a lot of heroes from the same unit. The custom heroes would be stored in a MPQ or in the same map. Maybe you won't understand...
Also I think that Blizz should include in the editor the now unused or dead SC1 heroes like Kerrigan ghost or Tassadar.
P.S.:With "hero" I'm talking about the campaign heroes, not the WC3ish heroes.
hell yeah... lets include too the fallen heroes and evil heroes from starcraft!!
DarkMirror

THERES NO SUCH THING AS "Fallen Heroes" or "Evil heroes". There are just heroes.
ok... then i will just say "heroes"
SilverCrusader
08-12-2007, 9:44 PM
yeah umm, kerrigan is a hero on the Zerg side.
DarkMirror

Whatever. He talks of Fallen heroes as if they are a specail type of unit that deserves speacail treatement.

ok i know this post has nothing to do with starcraft2 but there has been alot of posts with snippets of infornmation in them about the warcraft 3 editor that have made my mind wander, so i have a few questions to ask.
In the warcraft 3 editor can you...: 1. Cange the animations of units? 2. can you give units spells from other units? 3. can you create new units 4. Can you make animations of units or animations dance?
I know some of these sound realy ridiclous but i just want to know the truth

Yeah, I think so. Just hella hard to do them.

I did not read all the pages so this idea may have been already posted: What about an AI script recorder? Simply use: you start a game with 4 workers and a (Nexus,CC,Hatchery or whatever the zerg will have) and the recorder records all your moves (units you build, when you attack) and then you can select the AI script you made and play against the AI with your own script (this can mean you can make computes n00bs! Yay!).What do you think?

My greatest urge in Starcraft 2 will be to play n00b comps.

1. - Yes it can, even though model editing is one of the hardest things to do (apart triggering).
2. Easy as pie. And even change it's animations.
3. As the exact above. The "object editor" is more or less of a cinch to use.
4. Leave WoW stupidity out of it. :P Although it may be pulled through very complex triggering or, at worst case, unit micro' it simply isn't worth the hassle.

The WC3-TFT default editing tool, known as World Editor, allows ya to even make your own AI scripts and let's leave it at that. The rest of your "recording" concept isn't doable.

i myself would like new trigger capabilities, hopefully things like: if a pod drop is commanded at location ___, then begin creation of ___, then command nuke from player ___ to location ___, then research ability ___, etc. As well as i would like to see destroyable doodads, other than the turrets, just because i like fully destructable enviornments

Their going to have destroyable rocks, we know that.
Their going to have destroyable rocks, we know that.
Plus, from has been said about the SC2 editor (and also basing it off upon the WC3-TFT one) I know that their models can be modified to look like other stuff. So, am daring enough to state that we'll have a fully fledged new 'toy' to play around with. :)

destructable rocks! lol i want rough terrain, (for all those people who don't play dnd rough terrain slows down units) I want to be able to make it and remove it + i want terrain that air units can't fly Over. Also i want the return of the instilation tile set and i want the ablity to turn the lights off in it.

The thing I want most is an internal AI editor. Stuff like how units react, etc. I would have so much fun with something like that.

I think you have no idea how aiscripts work.
A "recorder" would be undoable, because they only saw you do one game. As soon as your opponent deviates from what was expected, the computer will be unable to counter, because at best it would just play back the exact same maco used.

It's called staredit.
I think that he means the (terrain) tiles and/or doodads, Proto'. ;) A thing that can already be done in WC3-TFT mapping, although I believe it to be difficult.

very, seeing that you'd either have to have a 3D modeler or be able to 3D model yourself.

i'll import some fancy 256 color textures from WadFather or something :P
SilverCrusader

SC2 isn't 256 colors, it should be 32 bit.
I just thought of something, I really hope they have that black hole ability thrown in there, so mappers can use it.

Silver Crusader, you could add things in Warcraft3, you can add things in Starcraft2.
