For those of you who don't know, there was a bombing in Hyderabad, India. I'm from Hyderabad. Here's an article. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070518/ap_on_re_as/india_mosque_explosion;_ylt=Aqqa7pI3SqWOFmdSycZ2dN hw24cA)
It was at a masjid (mosque), one of the oldest and most historic ones that I've been to. That mosque has a long history behind it; it was built more then 400 years ago. I remember a year ago, sitting in the serene walls on a Friday afternoon, seeing the thousands of people walking around... praying, and all enjoying each other's company. Bazaars in the streets outside bustled with activity.
The population density is immense. There's 10,000 people in a tiny area, and that's not including the streets, bazaars and everyone else there. I'm guessing the area is 200 feet by 400 feet... For every 10 square feet, there's 1 or 2 people. When the prayers start, everyone crams into one area, making it even more dense.
I guess it's kind of surprising to hear that a place that I visited regularly during my trip to India was part of a bombing. I'm kind of in a semi-shocked / puzzled state.
What's even more frightening is what my cousin described. He had the day off on Friday, and decided to go there. It's a little out of the way, but not too far from his house. He arrived there late, and was getting ready to leave, and he described hearing a deafening explosion. His ears were ringing, and he was dazed by the explosion. Everyone was sort of in shock, and when he could hear again, he heard screams and yells of victims. He said he's sure more then the 13 were killed in the blast.
The panic that he described that ensued was even worse. Everyone yelling, screaming, and trying to flee. People were almost trampling, attempting to leave as fast as they can. Others began to riot, quickly finding someone to blame. He said he was running blindly, jumping and leaping over obstacles to get the hell out of there. "Never I have been that scared in my life," he described shakily to me. He made it out okay, a few bruises from people colliding into him.
I just felt like posting this experience because Muslims get a lot of flak for being terrorists. We're not a single religion that's trying to kill people. Everyone's a victim of terrorism. Muslims too.
Wow that was close. Glad to know your cousin made it. It's upsetting to hear that things like this go on even in the supposed "non militant" countries. (probably not the best choice of words)

I had so many Indian friends when I played soccer. It makes me crazy to think of those loving, fun people being victims of that crap. I swear, terrorism boils my blood.

I've never been to India, but I know people who have. I hear it's a beautiful country with good people, and it's sickening to hear of terrorism in the area. Everywhere has crime, but bombing... it's just sad.

It irks me to hell when other people start thinking its a good idea to kill innocent civilians.

I was digging through my photo archives... my bro had snapped a few pics while we were there a year ago. They're not the greatest, but it'll show you guys how it is down there.

This is after the Friday prayers, looking back outside into the courtyard. About 3/4 as dense as normal.

Inside, about 20 minutes before the services start. That giant thing hanging is a chandelier that's been wrapped up.... undergoing renovation or something. The spaces that are between the people become packed.

After services, people loitering and meeting with one another... not even close to max capacity.

The masjid an hour after services.

This is as we were approaching... if you look carefully, you can see how many people are actually inside..
yeah, I just felt like posting these :/

Oh man...
What sickens me is that these people will do it in areas where they know even something simple will kill loads of people.
I'mcan't be grateful enough that terrorism hasn't made it to where I live yet.

Terrorisim doesn't even follow the Islamic Law to the full, it just bends it so that they can justify it... to the best of my knowledge...
My sympathy to those victims in India

It's sad when men resort to terror to make their point.
More senseless violence..
My condolences to anyone involved.

Well, what can I say, the entire situation irritates me. Although I am glad that your cousin is safe Black.Ice.
India looks beautiful, reminds me of when I went to Turkey.
That's what irks me. Senseless violence under the guise of some (twisted) holly purpose. :P
And am glad to hear that your relatives there are A ok, B.I. :)
Also, I extend my condolences to all who might've experienced close ones losses just not to mention the loss of such an ancient artistic erected beauty such as that temple. :(

I just talked with the family. The mosque didn't suffer too much damage... it was built to last. It's made out of solid stone. Each pillar took like a decade to quarry because it's made out of solid stone...

I haven't been paying attention to the news to much, anyone know who claimed responsibility, if anyone?

That's great, that there's not much damage, I mean. Things used to be built so much sturdier. It would be a shame to see so much artisanship and work be destroyed in the blink of an eye like that.
It's really disheartening that people are twisted enough to do things like this. I'm glad your cousin is okay, B.I. <3

Oh man BI--That sucks :( I'm so sorry.
Gosh stupid ppl and their bombs! I hate it when innocents are killed just for the sake of someone elses selfish desire to create havoc, start wars, make a point and act stupid! >.<
I've never been one to point the finger at Muslims. I know there are violent groups no matter what the religion. I just wish ppl would realize not ALL Musilims are crazy jihad fanatics who kill the "infidel". Not ALL Christians kill abortion doctors and march in the streets saying ppl are going to hell.
Terrorism angers me. I will pray for the families of those sweet ppl. I love Indian ppl--They are so sweet, so kind, and so caring. They have big hearts and just hearing how innocents were killed makes me wanna slap those terrorists to their mama's, lolz.
Anywayz, thanks for posting about this BI. I hope you and your family will be okay :)
The way you talked in the beginning B.I, I feared that the bomb placement turned to rubble a good part of the temple (assumed the entrance because it would get the most pll concentrated in the smallest possible area). Glad that was wrong and it 'survived' with minor impact upon it, though. :)

There was damage, no doubt about that. Two more bombs were diffused by bomb technicians. It was just saddening to see that people would plant a bomb at a religious place of worship out of all places... especially one of the most historic mosques in the city.

It's sad. My condolences go out to the families of people who died. I don't know, there isn't much to say other than too many damn senseless acts of killing.
This reminded me of a song I was listening to these past few days (Hands Held High by Linkin Park).
"At times like this you pray,
But a bomb blew the mosque up yesterday.
There's bombs in the buses, bikes, roads,
inside your markets, your shops, your clothes,
My dad, he's got a lot of fear I know
but enough pride inside not to let that show.
My brother had a book he would hold with pride
A little red cover with a broken spine.
In the back he hand wrote a quote inside,
when the rich wage war, it's the poor who die."
There was damage, no doubt about that. Two more bombs were diffused by bomb technicians. It was just saddening to see that people would plant a bomb at a religious place of worship out of all places... especially one of the most historic mosques in the city.
But easy to rebuild, I hope? ;) And it seems that all in all many were lucky, because two bombs didn't blow up (and got defused by the experts).
And that's why I generally loath fanaticisms, of any kind. :concern:
For instance, even sports fanatics can be dangerous (if displeased).

.. I'm really glad your cousin made it safe B.I....
:( It's really disgusting to see people try to flare up the communal sentiments for their own ends.
We were at work, when a guy comes up and tells us what happened. It left us completely dumbfounded, while a few called up their families in Hyderabad to see if everything was alright (which, thankfully it was).
The police have since recovered SIMs that were used in the two other bombs found (which didn't go off since the SIMs inside were expired). Apparently, the bombs were made after May the 4th.
What really irks me is that a few people would always.. always try to expooit local /communal sentiments to further their own terror agendas , and it's really sick especially when most people no matter what religion would lead normal lives.....
There's been another spate of bombings today in Eastern UP... in yet another area deemed as "communally sensitive" :(.......luckily no one is reported kiiled.
