Photoshop- Control Clicking Laters

I just 'got' Photoshop CS2, and now when I try to control-click a layer to select everything within the layer (like, the selection by the marquee tool, for example I place a circle in a layer then control click that layer and get the marquee selection around the circle), I cant. What shortcut do I use?

If you haven't solved this yet, it's actually the same shortcut (Ctrl + Click on the layer) however the area to click on has changed. Instead of being the whole layer it's now only the thumbnail of the layer. That is to say to select everything in the layer you ctrl + click in the red area:
