Although this game is nerdy, I kind of like it ( and I have a life too. That's the scary part ).
This game brings alot of memories back to me.

Has anyone ever played D&D before?

Me and my friends play roughly every week, though sometimes the real world gets in the way.

Party=
Star Elf Dread Necromancer- Gets used as the group "trap Disarmer" (AKA, throw the necromancer in there and see what happens)
Wood Elf Archer
Human Warmage (currently blind)
Vampire Monk
Tiefling(winged Template) Swordsage - Me, Specialized in Desert Wind and Diamond Mind.

At the moment, we're running around in Ravenloft. Party is level 10-ish. And yes, we are one of those groups that allows pretty much everything into our game, except blatantly broken shit.

Cool. You use the "throw 'em in and let em blow up" tactic?
I dont find it resoce efficent. To many heals need to be devoted to tme then.

I used to play DnD and the Warcraft rpg.

IT WAS FING B***S***.

It was too limited. You had to pick spells form the list, classes to abide by....

now, I play my friend's home made, based on GURPS rp system. No classes, you can (within reason) make up ur own spells, u can buy any skill (e.g. jewelery making, knitting, anything...even teapouring! ((which was an actual skil, BTW)), you buy your attributes with points you are given to make ur character....pure bliss.

bad DND...skrewing over poor nerds when they could play less confined crap instead...

I've played looser stuff before, Amber and Tri-Stat BESM, mainly(Amber is fun as hell with a good DM, but it blows if the DM doesn't know what he's doing, more so than most RPGs). I've also played Vampire and a Session of Shadowrun 4.0 Shadowrun was fun, I'd like to play again but haven't bothered hunting down a group.

DnD is just easiest because of the piles and piles of monster manuals available, so that you don't have to spend four hours setting up enemies. Also, my group ignores multiclassing penalties, so we can used mishmashes of classes if that suites the idea better, or homebrew stuff(though I'm the only one to bother, an I havent used any of it yet)

I've wanted to try GURPS just because of the absurd level of simulationism and rules for fucking everything.

The last DnD campaign I ever played was a Lord of the Rings campaign a few years ago. I remember that after Rivendell, the entire storyline pretty much fell apart. After going through Moria, we cut south into Rohan and went into Isengard. We lost some party members there, including the Ring-bearer, and it was after that point we decided to go around the Mountains of Shadow. We were almost into Mordor before we got ambushed by orcs and killed. By that point, Sauron had taken Gondor and Rohan, so meh.

Still a fun game, though.

I played recently the "oriental adventures" version. I was PISSED when there was no half-orc. Anyway, I played a dwarf barbarian. The party was

Me level 4 barbarian.
dwarf
male

level 4 shaman (cleric)
spirit folk water
female lesbian (and the character resembled the player. We would have ackward moments when the DM tried to play out "role playing" scenes with his lesbian character. My stomach is turning just from thinking about it. Werewolf of spirit folk IS NOT HOT!)

Human
Rogue level 4
Bow rogue, very dex based. We used her for anything social. and have even recruited armies with her. Really fun character, and it's mine. It's really tough to switch between a barbarian and a tactfull, strategic based mind set.
female-straight

Werewolf
Rogue level 3
Female-lesbian

The last quest I did was an "artifact of twelve elements" The whole point was there was this evil wizard named Blarg who was ravaging the world and broke an artifact that held the world in place. We had 1 year to find all twelve parts or the acoyplise would come.
Never finished. My friend who was holding on the papers and character sheets lost them.

That's when our Soul Cal quest came in. It was alot more organized.

Our characters are more powerful too. Too bad Steve's Necronmancer died. I liked his two skeleton and zombie friends. Poor Fred and Geroge. May they rest in pieces.

We had this stupid fighter in our Artifact quest with an INT of 3. He thought he was a Rouge. He would try to sneak attack someone and then would yell "Sneak Attack!" about 30 yards from the monster. Guy was stupid.

Also we had a dumb Half Orc in our party named KT. He was a guy and his name made him sound like a girl. He was also a moron. Had an INT of 10 and a WIS of 6.

We killed KT. Smartest descision we ever made.

I played a lot of DnD back in the day. But my DM was a closet case that could never get his life properly arranged. Playing was fun, but we often were known for our failures and misadventures (uppity level 1 PCs) moreso than anything else. It didn't help that our DM had been playing for something like 10 years with his mom and that he felt there was something to be had in a DnD character. It took him 2-something years to get an L9 wizard. I think when I realized that I stopped playing. It would take 2-something years to get an advanced belt in a martial art, and I wouldn't get my ass kicked in dark alleys.

h0bgawblin
05-04-2007, 5:44 PM
Yeah, my most recent DM was like that. However, he expressed more interest in getting his life sorted out and was trying very hard. He had a really tough life, and I was glad he was taking the proper measures. It's always tough when you see someone like that and they, in no way, want to get better.

We just had our next session last Friday.

We went to a fort and our Drawf accidently knocked out a guy.
Then we got into a big fight and had to put our asses in High Gear

Now were's camping by a lake.
And a friend of mine just joined in our quest. He's a ninja.

Then a party member died. Poor Rein. Even though one of our members kind of did that.

One of his friends came up to us and told us we were lames for playing this
And we told him: "So why do you still play it?"

He played with us once before and he think he can go up and call us lames?

I'd be interested in it. I'll be free basically all summer, which starts in a few weeks. All the plays this year are over, the only thing I have to prep for is finals, which won't be that hard considering I have all easy classes.

My SN on AIM is DrDraidel, real name Brandon. I haven't played in awhile however. If anyone can somehow find a dice roller we can use for AIM we could use that to roll dice. Me and my cousins did that with Bots on Battle.net. I think I could get back into D&D again.

h0bgawblin

Aim has it's own dice roll command. something rediculious like //roll 1-20, what ever it is, I just copy and paste it from a word program. Anyone know any good programs to use for dnd in general? It's always helpfull to upload maps and have other things.

Kazeofwinds

OpenRPG.

Its freeware, designed specificaly for running dnd games over the net.

There's also the option of just doing it in an IRC channel, I think I have Dicebot somewhere....

I know a dm, but he is pretty into RPing as well as 5 hour sessions (preffered, not required). You'd get a level about, maybe, every other session if not sooner. He also finds meta-gaming disrespectful if taken too far. I am sort of a power gamer, so he gets pretty pissed at me a lot haha.

Unless someone else joins in and steps up, I'll be DMing random stuff out of my ass starting at level one.

I've having everyone in the game use the character sheet thing at http://www.myth-weavers.com/ (Note that after you make a character, you have to change the permissions to public so everyone can see it)

So we are using aim then?
If not, kazeofwinds,
what's the game name?
How are we going about char generation because I don't have a players manual on me, and I can't create a char real easy.
http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheets/view.php?id=16305 That's what I have thus far.

I don't remember how many skills you get starting, and what the human bonuses are. I think humans get 1 extra feat, so I'm allowed to have cleave right?

Also, if I remember correctly, the barbarian starts with a great axe (1d12) in the starter set.

P.s. I used this dice roller for my stats http://www.wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm

I'll be running it over IRC (In other words, you'll be able to access it over the chat thinger in the corner)

http://www.pathguy.com/cg35.htm <- That website can handle all the mechanical stuff for you (don't pick any races you don't have info on because all that site tells you is the racial stats, if you dont know what something is and its not on d20srd.org , don't pick it.), you'll still have to fill in the blanks over at weavers though. No game name on weavers right now, we're just mooching off their character sheet hosting and ignoring the rest of the site.

Use 5d6 best 3 for stat generation(Be honest, if your stats look like BS, I'll roll you some myself), and I can assure you my attention span wont allow 5 hour sessions, most likely.

at the moment the semester is over and I'm unemployed, so pending work I can run pretty much anytime (fridays and/or sundays preferred) just not this friday, I've got a short-term job that day (working at a two-day art show)

Oh, and we'll be using Forgotten Realms Dieties, unless you really want to worship pelor or somethin.

EDIT: forgot to add that I'm in Central US timezone (GMT-6), so if there's lots of europeans involved, this game may end up at some odd hour for all of us.

Obviously this is not the best week to start an online D&D thing with mother's day going around, and I'm usually busy.
So when I join, if i'm not there, just do what my character what you desire.

Anyway as for DnD manuals, I got all the second edition ones, but obviosuly we aint playing that version. So I'm heading to my local game store to get some 3.5 maunals.

Kazeofwinds
05-11-2007, 3:23 PM
I personally don't care if the party is more of a traveling freakshow, but the game is starting at level one, so any races with a LA+ of more than 0 is a no-go.

Hmm....I guess that does pretty much restrict it to normal stuff.

Also, Hob, you forgot to put down your base saves(the ones your class gives you). I can make a low level barbarian from memory, but you might want to put the rest of the class features on your sheet somewhere.

h0bgawblin
05-12-2007, 8:01 PM
Thanks I'll fix that ASAP, in the mean time could you get me a link to DL mirc? Also, what feats do you need for whirlwind? If I remember correctly, that's the most common barb build am I wrong?

Done as far as I know with my char sheet. I should also give you access, what's your user name on that site?

It doesn't mean ur a nerd. You can have a normal life (hell even be the champ of a football team) and still have fun playing this. I have no clue where the definition of nerd came from, but whoever made it up is a dumbass.
As for the Warboards dnd thing, I would do it, but I'm not that good of a DM. I'll leave it the hands of other people who are better. I will join though if someone does that.

I play D&D and I find it alot of fun, the only problem with your sugestion WestDC is that D&D uses alot of dice rolls, and that alone posses a porblem that would need to be surmounted.

If you got past that, it would just be like a normal RP here, but it would still be a huge amount of fun...

Now that the idea is in my head lets see if I can impliment it...
