I was going to say it was a bit bleak. Then I pictured it as a wallpaper and realised it suits its purpose. Although it could lose the spotlight, IMHO.

8/10, I likey :)
[Especially the text]

Well without the light, I thought it looked rather plain and... bleak. :P

But maybe if I lit up just the text and not the background, it might look a tad better...

But I think I see where you're coming from -- it could do without the light shining on the background. Maybe I'll fix that. ^_^

It's nice (especially since you know the metal oldies), but if you want accuracy you should try this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Metallica_logo.svg) instead. ;)

Looks alright, a bit bland though.
Like mentioned before, you could do without the spotlight.

It'd look great if you could find a bunch of images of each band members and arrange them into a collage. ;)

It's a wallpaper, foo o_O

Yeah you want random tidbits of the band floating around here and there so that every time you're on your desktop your occipital lobes implode due to the excess of information.

I'd say if you wanted to take away the boring stuff, you should add perhaps add some simple texture to it. double scanline patterns [1 black, 1 white] + soft light blend = win :)

That's what I was aiming for :)

Let's see... black background, spotlight.

Text with inner shadow and duplicated the layer to cast the shadow again with 0 range... and then duplicated the text to reverse it and make the reflection... am I close?

Regardless, you really didn't do all that much. This needs a lot of work. Are you just starting to mess with Photoshop?

Yeah, pretty close...

But you're spot-on with that observation. :) (And it's the Gimp, actually, but whatever. :P)

Keep practicing. And do yourself a favor and get Photoshop.
