Guys I used to be able to get onto SEN but now it wont let me.
Do you think it might be blocked somehow?

It can't connect to it's server for me. Similar has happened in the past but at least on those occasions the problem screen msg surfaced to enlighten us, the mere mortals. :P

So it's just my internet being incredibly stupid?

Maybe I've expressed myself badly. I can't connect to it either (although on previous similar occasions a server problem msg appeared).

Ever heard of (blunt) sarcasm? That was it. :P

Frankly I don't know, nor care (too much). Let's hope it was like previous times and it all turns out alright. ;)

What has been the longest time that you were not able to get on SEN?

They've suffered a big few set backs in the past, from being hacked to major server issues and in those days (if I recall it right) they were down for one or two weeks. The only thing I don't quite relate is your weekend's agenda getting screwed with it being down... go out, post in other places, etc etc. :P

Well I had plans for sc stuff but since thats down and I don't have it to work on I just wander around thinking of stuff that I should write down cause it could make some good maps.

Moose posted about this on Maplantis. For a quick summary, they don't think IP payed the server bills

SeN has some good news and some really bad news...

ANYWAY, I finally talked to IP today. He's pretty busy and he's contacted the host, and he's considering reopening SEN. If SEN does come back up, expect a lot of turbulence. The site was deleted already by the host, so everything we don't have backed up (avatars, sigs, files, DLDB, etc. is WIPED). However, stuff in the DATABASE, like member profiles, forums, topics, and posts are still there, so those will return. Thus, I'm putting in v5 and getting that up, I don't care what's missing. We'll deal with what comes up as it happens. Also, because v5 isn't very pretty, expect some layout and image design contests or something. I'll need to enlist quite a bit of help to get things running smoothly again, so stand by if I need you. Until then, I'll keep you updated if any new developments come along. :)

I'd estimate it to be around this week or the next based on this update, but I don't really know.

This is perhaps SeN's darkest news since the drama back at September:

Source (http://194.169.192.166/index.php?topic=290)

Summary: The costs outweight the benefits at this time, thus I have no intention of reviving SEN at this time.

-

I took my time to think this over. I talked to Technical Death/Yoshi/Tau/Mike and IP/Mike and various others and reached this decision. There's a lot of reasons that I decided not to continue with SEN (in retrospect, a decision I should've made long ago), and I'll try to cover them all in this post (though most likely, I'll fail).

First off, I'm getting more busy. I have classes/finals (yes, over the summer, too), a job lined up, I'm active in theater, and somewhere in there I'd like to maintain a social life and other hobbies.

Next, let's think about why I would perpetuate SEN's existance. I certainly don't miss smacking around kids whom I don't feel should be allowed to use their keyboards. I also certainly don't miss clicking on some Magic Box for minerals that I'll never use.
One reason for keeping SEN was that there really wasn't any place better to go. Given Maplantis, that isn't true anymore. There's nothing SEN could do that Maplantis can't do. That isn't to say this place isn't going to grow and face the same/similar problems, but I don't have to deal with them. Another reason was the content advantage, AKA SEN's massive DLDB. Given the deletion of SEN, that doesn't really exist anymore. Why put all that work into reviving SEN when we have Maplantis with much better systems and now, more content? Last was the people. Most of the people who would help out SEN are already helping out here. There's initiative in this community that I never saw on SEN (most likely, again, due to Maplantis' relatively young age). We also have responsible leaders, opposed to the unreliable IP (sorry if you read this IP, but you just weren't there ;o). Any chance of reviving IP depends on IP appearing again, which hasn't happened. Reviving SEN would require a LOT of work which isn't really worth doing in my mind.

As for my future, who knows. Maybe SC2 will be announced. Maybe I'll go back to mapping and actually playing StarCraft. Maybe I'll stay on my Civ 3 addiction. Maybe I'll develop or work on some other project, StarCraft related or not. Maybe I'll start working here (!). Maybe I'll change my mind, call IP, get SEN running and laugh at that time I posted a crazy topic on Maplantis about how I wasn't going to revive SEN.
