ATM, I'm having a total addiction problem to warcraft 3.... and I'm not even playing it!!!!! So I've gone to wcreplays.com and looked at the human section. I've done this before, and have found that people just flame/troll and give unhelpfull advice. This hasn't been the case lately(Warboards is still better for detailed explinations and hands on assistance towards my game and I thank everybody here for that) and I have been reading and writing some of the posts. I found a REALLY good thread that was so simple and rang so true with how I screw up sometimes.
Recently, I've relized that I place too much faith in strategy. I started to learn that my execution on the strategy was quite commendable, but my micro and lack of flexability to a situation was what got me in the end.(as in if he didn't cookie cut me, or if the strategy went even slightly wrong). The first time I was pushed towards this mode of thinking was after I Started thread NE IS IMBA ZOMG 11!!!11! Grog came in, and posted something that set me straight, pointing out that I both lost too many units, and made poor decisions in battle, which resulted in me losing my head. I watched the replay again, and relized that I was simply outplayed. However, I still couldn't put my finger on where I was going wrong in my game play. Then grog posted the battle report, and I relized that I didn't think about the battles I was fighting. My mentality was so simplistic I was disgusted with myself. I had thought micro to be only running around red units, and preventing the opponent from doing such.
In 2 months I'm getting my own apartment and starting courses at the local community college. At this time I would like to start playing with you all again and doing something unique. I was wondering if we could start in the replay section, trying to analyze our battles. Go into good details about our greatest games, then have other people try to "out disect" other peoples replays. Or even start with this thread, I'll post a link to an old replay that I have on my computer for an example.
I'm trying to find a game and it's really hard... half the threads on this site are (ZOMG LOOKING FOR AN OLD CUSTOM GAME1!)
*sigh* I havn't posted a lot of good replays at all... I started writing this post at 7:50, it's like 8:30. I got nothing good that's on here as well as my computer. So I'm going to link a pro game unfortunately. http://wcreplays.com/replays.php?get=10249
In this game I found where insomnia made the biggest mistakes was when he was attacking while his expo was up. His first attempt at stalling took place on the north bridge, where he utilized the space between the farm and the northern wall of the bridge. Microing his footies carefully, he managed to take out some units. However, the second time he puts himself in between the creeps near lucifers goblin shop, and fights a battle in which the positioning favors lucifer. He is fighting ranged with footies in a tight space with a flank from the creeps going on. In addition to that, he loses plenty of foots by A. not deciding which unit to target B. trying to focus down fiends when they have frost armor on, with a DK present and stats present. He had an advantage with an expansion (he had it up without lucifer knowing about it). He played a sloppy early game where he got no ghoul kills or very few. Then tried to creep the merc shop near his base with his milita almost getting a creep jack, then has it turned around on him. He could have made up for the lack of a strong opening game by using the recources from the expo to amass knights and gyros. Instead he opted to go on the offensive for no good reason.
I just disected that replay from my point of view, taking what he did wrong and why he lost. Now give it a shot, it's quite fun (or maybe i'm just that new to the concept).
