View Full Version : Bunch of questions

Ok, I'm going to explain my situation. Once my life gets stablized I plan to pick up wow casually for pvp. My friend, A wants a pvp partner, B wants an easier way to keep in touch. He explained to me that with about 4 hours of play a week you can get good pvp gear if you do even half decently. He is a hunter and has a pally friend who is good. I want to play with him just to keep in touch and have fun. I figure log on 1 hour a day and screw around or if I really want to, join a casual guild that makes raiding optional.
Questions start here.
1. I've decided my play style is controlling my surroundings to my advantage while being able to nail targets quickly so I don't have to spend too much time on one target. Meanwhile, having the option to create a scenerio and have the time to plan out and execute said scenerio. Question number 1, would my class of choice be a rogue?
2. I'm looking for a way to level, while gaining reputation at the same time in factions that would reward my class. My hunter friend(he is 70 with lots of epics) said he would help me level a lot from 1-60 but 60-70 is an experience I should have. I have access to warlock summons to what ever starting zone I want. Not to mention loot that will be at a fairly respectable level. So, question number 2, whats a good way for a human rogue(my race and class preferance) to level up? In addition, I figure I should consider the most efficient way of leveling. Would this be grinding when I'm alone and having my hunter friend power quest me? What spec should a rogue be for fast leveling?
3. Is 1 hunter, 1 rogue, and 1 pally a good group for 3v3 arena? If not, would those 3 classes be good for 4v4 and 5v5? What is the best 3v3 arena team (aside from warrior, pally, pally)?
I am not asking about level 70 gear that I should aim for because the gear will change quite rapidly. So there is no point in doing research yet. People who take thier time giving good answers to all the questions, I personally thank and will give rep for. There are a lot of questions, and I am in your debt if you answer at least 2 of them with a lot of details.

Here's what I know. Assasination: PvE, so best for leveling. Choose that.
Best way to level is prolly getting all the kill X amount of Y quests in town, then go out. Kill loads of things and return em ;)

Can anyone link a build for assasination?

I found that combat is the best build for leveling, as there's no wasting time in stealth.

Couldn't you also make the arguement for time wasted regening hp? With assasination there is less damage taken. Though without the subelty talent, I suppose a combat build would make more sense for the lower levels considering health regen isn't an issue at that point.

I'd say assasination is more effective in killing mobs, and combat is easier, better for grinding.

lol.
Combat swords is best for leveling, hands down.

Combat to sword spec, Assass to Lethality, finish up Sub, pick up AR, finish up Assass.

No Improved Sinister Strike? I always thought that was one of the things every rogue put points in, kinda like Cruelty for Warriors.

Meh, depends how your grind. Though I guess swords would use SS instead of BS xD Hahah.

The one thing that gets me nervous about going combat is that I planned to be a prep rogue for my 3v3 team. As always I could learn quickly at 70 after the grind as it won't be too hard. However, would you guys know something about a 3v3 tailored rogue and how that would play? I had imagined taking 2 players out for about 10 seconds with sap, blind, cheap shot, and kidney shot leaving my team mates to land a lot of damage on who ever they want. I'm also AC, so no stone form for me to worry about.
I heard about a prep build where you can get rid of all your cool downs. Any info on that?

A rogue, I think, would suit you nicely, though hunters are better at taking advantage of the environment. A hunter's pet has an incredible variety of useful mechanics, including crowd control and exploitation of blind spots.
Yes, I believe there is a talent in Subtley that finishes all your cooldowns. I could be wrong.

While the combat build helps greatly in my ideas for leveling, I'm going to change my spec when I arena or pvp to a more stealth oriented build. So, here is another question, what is the best build for working with 1 pally as a healer. I would think you would want to go a more solo oriented build like 30/0/31. What are your thoughts on this?
Edit: the build would look something like http://talentcalculator.merciless-gilde.com/?lang=en&show=t&t=169755
Another list of a "bunch of questions"
What is the opener that a rogue should use for the following scenerios(all cooldown moves included)
In group pvp against a warrior and pally
In group pvp against 2 mages
What should a rogue be thinking against each class? Openers and general strategy?

One thing, you will thank me later.
Do NOT roll a human rogue. Their racial sucks...
Roll a Dwarf, you will be the ultimate sub. rogue. You will have Cloak of Shadows to make you the clothy killer, and the Dwarf Racial if you get blinded, or are going against a damn good Warrior.

I hate dwarfs though, that's why I wanna roll something I can relate to. I hated playing my dwarf warrior after a certain point, because he was too goofy. I couldn't play my character seriously. Only bad ass looking dwarfs I've ever seen are dwarfs in full tier 2 + tanking gear, with a big ass shield.

Rogue vs Warrior
Assuming the warrior has equal gear and skill as you, the warrior will win.
Against a mage, it depends.
If you get the jump, eg, when the mage is drinking/eating, you are 75% likely to win, assuming the mage has equal gear/skill as you.
If the mage gets the jump, it's a 50/50.

I find it kind of funny that you think you're going to play WoW for 4 hours a week.

That's what I thought too for the first day, maybe, that I had it. Thank god that's over.
By the way, if you want to be competitive progression wise or pvp-wise, start thinking 6-7 hours a day 3 nights a week minimum, plus the fact that you need to find a lot of friends or a guild to get into. I lucked out on the guild / friend factor but it still took so much time that it ceased to be fun.

That's the whole broken logic players have! ' I had to spend so much time it ceased being fun' .
You don't have to spend any specific amount of time on WoW each day. Just enough to have fun. Otherwise, what you're trying to do is play lots so you can join a raiding guild, and not enjoy the game anymore. O_o
Some people like spending 6 hours a day raiding and pvp'ing, but if you stop enjoying the game that way, screw that.

www.briankopp.com
find a pirated version on a torrent site. although, it really is worth the $30 or whatever. I can say the same for www.joanasworld.com too, if you're ever leveling a horde toon. Don't, however, pay for those "100 Gold Per Hour!!!!!zomg" guides. They don't tell you anything more than a thottbot search for drop-rates would.
