Don't get them. Those all suck and cost way too much money.

If you are planning to get a site, get a .com name instead! Don't settle for some crap like that.

Pretty much every host out there allows you to use a .COM, but you need to buy a domain, and setup the DNS before you can do anything. You can register a domain at GoDaddy (http://www.godaddy.com).

Those hosting packages you linked to, are garbage. Why don't you try DarkStar Communications (http://webhosting.darkstarllc.com/)? They have awesome service, and are one of the most stable hosts I've ever used.

Yeah, it does.

Being a web developer, I feel inclined to help you.

A server is where your files are stored. In a nutshell, the most common/stable O/S on servers are Unix / Linux. You, using Win Xp can connect to them. You transfer files to the server via a protocol called FTP. Many programs do this for you, and it's simple.

I personally use, ipowerweb.com. I'm signed up as an affiliate with them as well, and they give $65.00 for everyone that I get to sign up (after 2 months). Check em out at http://www.ipowerweb.com

I've used them, and they are reliable with 24/7 tech support. Good for running your own business (like mwa). THey ahve PHP, SQL and the works. Overall, good package for a good price.

If you like their services, I'll give you an affiliate URL. You'll make me $65.00 bucks. We'll split it 50/50. Whaddya say?

(Damn, I sound like a sales man or something.)

:P

EDIT: Before you sign up, let me know what you are trying to do? Are you trying to do a business site? Or maybe a personal one? Let me know your needs, and I'll give you some tips on where to sign up.

1and1.com (or whatever they are) are a huge reliable host...

hostrocket.com

Though I would suggest futurepoint, dominet.net (my own) or Darkstar (From Mystikal) http://www.darkstarllc.com/ (They are pretty cheap)

THough I would suggest you learn more about Website hosting (and websites in general). You dont host it on your computer at all, the only thing you do on your computer is upload things via FTP to your website...

No problem... I can help you out with any (most) server things / issues you have with ipowerweb. So far, I've registered 6 people with them (and I've developed all their sites. Some of them are work-in-progress), but they are up, none the less.

What kind of scripting do you work on? I do PHP myself, and if you are the same, you should have no problems.

Powweb. 1GB of space, 5GB of bandwidth per day, five MySQL databases, PHP, free domain name, 650 e-mail addresses, and all the other typical stuff you get from a BSD/Linux host. $7.77 a month. I've been using them for about 8 months and I've had no complaints. Very good service, too.

If you need to use ASP, ASP.NET, or SQL Server 2000, then you'll need a Windows host. They're slightly more expensive than BSD/Linux hosts. Two very good ones are Stargate and Brinkster. Brinkster is the best of both worlds. It allows you to run PHP and ASP/ASP.NET with either MySQL or MSSQL.

Base your decision on which server side technologies you plan on using.
