Ladies, Gentlemen, and everything else, welcome to Videogame Deathmatch.

In today's episode, we're going to pit two of Warboard's favorite First Person Shooter series against each other, Half Life Vs. Halo.

First let us see how different game review websites have quantized the two.

Gamespot out of 10

Halo received a 9.7
Halo 2 received a 9.4
Half Life received a 9.4
and lastly, Half life 2 received a 9.2Gamespy gave all four games 5/5 stars

Metacritic out of 100

Halo 97
Halo 2 95
Half Life 96
Half Life 2 96
Now its Warboard's turn, You've probably already voted for whichever game you like best. Feel free to discuss in this thread. I'd also appreciate it if you didn't vote if you havn't played at least one game in each series.

In my opinion Half Life series is better. However, I prefer halo one over half life one. half life 2, however, is much better then halo 2 was so I would have to chose half life.

I prefer Halo, because its easier to play Halo with my friends sitting on my couch. Half-Life is awesome for mods though.

While I love both series for different reasons I must pick Half Life for it's amazing storyline, and the ability to throw cinder blocks at CP units.

Halo has awesome multiplayer with the downside of cussing 10-year-olds who think they're "all that" just because their mommy isn't home to wash their mouth out with soap.

I have to say that, although Half Life has been around much longer than Halo, the story for Halo (to me) seems so much more interesting and thriving than that of Half Life.

Gameplay-wise I also like Halo better. The controls are simple and easy to follow and the strategy involved in choosing weapons and such. Some may just pick up whatever weapon is sitting in front of them, but some weapons are more suited to certain situations which is where Half Life kind of falters I think plus the availability of the melee button gives it a larger sense of fierce combat...I'm not sure but I think in Half Life 1 you could carry every type of weapon without limit, same with Half Life 2. It kind of defeats the strategy involved with picking weapons for certain combat situations. But I admit the addition of the gravity gun and real time physics gave Half Life 2 some more strategy.

(PS Shooting saw blades ftw!)

I think that Half Life had a much better single player part to it than Halo or Halo 2, the same goes with Half Life 2. The Halo games are just more multiplayer based. I went with Halo because multiplayer is really usually what I look for in a game.

Halo for Multiplayer, Half Life for singpleplayer.

I agree. Nothing is more satisfying then butting a battle rifle's butt into your best friends back :)

Exactly!

Halo 2 taught me at the LEAST one thing: Anytime an opposing sniper kills you with a headshot, he should automatically be labeled a ******.

Half life for the simple reason that it was homegrown on the PC :D

i'm personally a fan of CS. So half life i would have to support. are we taking into account of HL2's humongous requirements? If we are then i'd still say HL1wins.

If we're talking a battle between characters, I have to go with Halo. If we're going by gameplay and whatnot, I have to say Halo had the added tactical element of only carrying 2 weapons, but you also knew that plasma weapons ate Covenant alive and human weapons were more effective against the Flood, so it wasn't the best implemented feature. Half-Life has the cryptic-as-Hell storyline, Halo is more sci-fi. Half-life wins in that department, it keeps me thinking more.

Halo wins.
Half Life: Weird character models, weapons are hard to control/use, too hard to tell direction from gunfire... The only part I really like about that game is diving down stairs with the crouch button, and watching computers follow you when you jump off a roof.

Halo: Halo is Halo. No more explanation needed. But you get one anyway!
Halo has awesome weapons that are fun to use and learn.
Halo has awesome vehicles that are fun to use and learn.
Halo has better grenades than Half Life.
Halo has better music than Half Life.
Halo has better levels than Half Life.
And best of all.... ALIENS!

3. Half Life has vehicles.
4. Half Life's soundtrack is superior.
5. Half Life's levels are easily longer and have more depth then Halo's/
6. Half Life has more Aliens then Halo.

Not Half-Life 1.

3. Half Life has vehicles.

So does Halo, and Halo has more.

4. Half Life's soundtrack is superior.

Yes, which is why Halo got the Game Developers Choice Award in Audio, and Half-Life or Half-Life 2 did not. Either way, it's a matter of opinion.

The points I didn't quote are ones I can't really argue.

hmm, Ive only played Halo once... but doesn't Half Life have NO major Loading screens? That means Half life has more of a flow of gameplay...

Halo 2 one load the beginning of the campaign then you can play straight through only loading when you start a save game.

Halo 1 (console): Short load screen between levels. Nothing to bitch about.

Half-Life 2 You see loading on your screen every 5 to 10 minutes.

Half-Life 1 been to long since I played :(

Wait... Half-Life 2 had vehicles?

I remember that gay little hoverboat with the counterintuitive controls.. but that's all.

Also, Halo has waaay more aliens than Half Life..

The soundtracks are pretty equal, Halo's epic full orchestra pieces are quite amazing.

Oh, and if we count all the different Combine Synths . . . .

Oh, and if we count all the different Combine Synths . . . .

Compared to Prophets, Brutes, Hunters, Elites, Jackals, Engineers, Grunts, Drones, and all of the Flood forms. That brings the total number of aliens in Halo to 12. If you want to count the Covenant's Sharquoi and Flood Command Forms, then 14. Even without counting Combine Synths, the aliens in Half-Life outnumber the aliens in Halo.

So, Halo aliens, counting ones unseen in the games, 14. Half-Life aliens, counting synths, 23. Not counting synths or aliens unseen in the Halo games, it's 12 to 15.

I dunno, the dune buggie wasn't so bad. The hover boat was also not quite as useless after you got the gun for it...

Ok, yeah, Half-Life vehicles blew.

Dusty

That gun on the buggy is useless. Hard to aim when moving and no damage. Better just to run the guy over.
