Perhaps being a little more clear in both grammar and request would help :)

Umm... so if you open SCMDraft, you see a grid of boxes.
Then if I want to stack units, it doesnt work, like i put a whole bunch of cannons and a pylon on one spot, then i went UMS on BNet, but the map is empty. Can someone teach me how to stack buildings and stuff...

Hy Crusader' and welcome to our SC corner over the 'net. :)

I think that have just found out what your problem really is. When your start playing the map inside the game, you need to select the UMS (aka use map settings) option from the ones available.

I think he already did that, mighty one :)

Now that I get your focus, perhaps it has something to do with starting locations. The normal editor won't let you save if you don't have the proper starting locations, but SCMDraft2 skips this and lets you save a lot of abnormalities. In theory, you have to place one starting location for each player with units on the map. It doesn't matter where you put them, these thigs are only to determine starting points for melee matches.

For example:

Player 1 (Human) has 10 medics on the map
Player 2 (Computer) has 100 photon cannons on the map
Player 3 (Neutral) has 1 ragnasaur on the map

You have to put starting locations for all of them, because they all have units on the map.

About stacking units, I tried to check the "allow unit stack" checkbox in SCMDraft2, and they stacked IN the editor, but not on the actual map: I don't know if stacking is possible on SCMDraft2.

okay i tried it and it does. also... how to make square terrain on SCMDraft2?

ahh nvm. i got it... =D

okay. but. if i stack units on XTRA EDITOR, then i can only stack like... sideways or upways downways. i cant get it directly on top of another building. help? =]

That is because (assuming you use Special Mode) each sprite actually still takes up a 1x1 pixel square on the map.

The way you can make "true" stacking is by using Datedit. If you haven't ever heard of that before, then it is a program that can modify data files in starcraft. You can download it off of Staredit Network (staredit.net) in the downloads database.

If you decided to download it, then there is a simple procedure to make each unit be able to truly stack. The way to do it is...

1. Run Datedit. If an image with some cool pictures comes up, then just click on it. It will then go to the actual editor.

2. On the left side of the screen you should see a bunch of units. If that is true, then find the Terran MIssile Turret. But if you see a format that looks like the staredit menu, then just find the missile turret like how you would do in staredit.

3. On the right side of the screen, notice that you are selecting the units tab and basic button. Click on the StarEdit tab. Notice near the bottom of this section that in the placement box there are two numbers. Change these numbers to whatever you like, although i would make them both 0.

4. Now, goto file>save as and save you file as "units.dat" in someplace. Then goto file>single MPQ file export... and save as any name you like. The last thing you just did was create an MPQ archive, which is just like a ZIP or RAR archive except slightly different.

5. Download MPQDraft. This is a program that actually makes your hard work pay off. It is available at Staredit Network.

6. When you downloaded it (and required files, if any), run it. You should come up to an interface with two options. Click on Load MPQ Patch. In the next window, choose starcraft in the programs box and campaign editor in the other and click NEXT.

7. After that, browse for the MPQ you saved. Click NEXT. In the next step, just click FINISH.

8. Staredit should load. Go find the missile turret you modified. Notice that there is no green box. Find an area and place the missile turret several times. If you see a bunch of turrets spinning around i nthe same place, then you were succesful! CONGRADULATIONS!!!

Problems: The only true problem is that you often will find yourself stacking more than 1 missile turret even if you just clicked once. When you just hold on down on your mouse button, you will be able to constantly stack multiple units.

Hope that helped!

And why do that complicated thing...?

Basan

Crusader', if you really need "true stacking" that badly then just get an advanced editor like SCMDraft 2 or SF and allow stacking in those before placing the units. ;) Maxed' just went a lil' overboard in the complicometer over there, imo.

Heh, lol. I guess i might have. But really, the procedure doesn't take more than 2 minutes.

where do i press allow stacking... =p haha. right now i have X-Tra Editor 2.6 and SCM Draft2 and also Uber@tion or something like that.

SilverCrusader

And Uber@tion is a map protector, not map editor... leave it out of the picture. You can click it under options -> units.

Okay. I Can Allow Stacked Units On Scmdraft 2 But Then It Says Error When I Try To Create The Game On Bnet!

That might have to do with a recent patch that prevented stacking in game to shut down many of those nasty stack hacks. How to bypass it is something that I currently don't know how. (Besides, I've never used much stacking in my maps anyway.)

okay thankx. do u think minerals will stack and go directly on top of each other even if the buildings wont go directly on top of each other? ;)

okay thankx. do u think minerals will stack and go directly on top of each other even if the buildings wont go directly on top of each other? ;)

It depends... of several things. ;) First, if the game allows it when playing the map with stacked stuff on it. And next on the editor you use for stacking. If with SCXE it simply can't be done.

that damnable .... .... .... *growls*

If your using SCXE maybe you should try SCM Draft 2.

I hope you weren't stacking sprites.

Latest version, 2.7 I think. I tried to stack goliaths, ghosts and rines on an installation map. Although installation maps are creepy...

Basan

It worked for me... as soon as I've enabled it to stack units (a setting I've got off by default). :P

starforge?
Some of us like to keep the map playable, StarForge would be a very very last resort (it does have a nice text trigger editor though).
