I'm working on a game whose gameplay is based on Raptor : Call of the Shadows. It is going to be uber awesome and uh, yea :D

Gameplay:

Arrow Keys: Move around
1: Shoot Pulse projectiles
2: Launch Missiles
<: Increase game speed
>: Decrease game speed
ESC: Exit game

Scroll down to find a download for the latest version.

I'm not sure how, but make it so that when you hold down an arrow key it immediatly scrolls, instead of waiting for the repeating to kick in.

A'right, I'll see what I can do about it.

This better not be spyware or some type of April Fools joke.

Downloading now.

EDIT: Finished downloading. The controls are kind of weird.

Is the title based on the old Raptor side scrolling shooter?

The first line of my first post answers this I believe. Yes.

heres what I get when I try to play it

Run-time error '339':

Component 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' or one if its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

Check if you have the file in either C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM, or C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

Otherwise download it here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/mscomctl.zip)

hmm, I don't think it would be worth my time... unless its a mega uber finished game...

Suit yourself..

I've added more updates, and now enemies can shoot you. They can hit you and make you lose hitpoints, but can't kill you, because I was too lazy than to code a respawn and I didn't want the game to be frustrating :p
Not that it isn't already xD

Anyway, Mirror:

[edit-update]
I got my lazy ass up and coded some awesome death animations, so killing and getting hit by stuff is actually fun now thanks to randomly generated explosions, check it out!

* Fullscreen disabled ( :p )
* Enemies spawn at higher rates
* You can adjust the game speed using the "[" and "]" keys if it's too fast or slow.
* Added a moving skyway
* Enemies can now drop a powerup that increases your HPs

Also, to those who have problems running this, download this (http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/mscomctl.zip).

hey Aqo, is it possible to put this into an install so I (and probably many other lazy people DONT have to fluff round with extra files?)

Aqo

Well, all you really have to do is to just download the other file, unzip it, and... that's it.
I'll put both of them together in the same zip in the future, to save you a few clicks. Though, you should already have it then, so, hmf...

I have completely reworked the game and wrote a new engine for it. While I was on the process of retaining the old gameplay before I advance to further additions, many things have changed.

* Movement is now smooth, meaning you can hold down as many keys as you want to move (moving diagonally is thus possible now)
* Shooting no longer requires reloading.
* The plasma rifle was replaced with a pulse cannon, that recharges its own energy in a similar manner to Covenant guns, meaning, when its core gets dry, stop shooting and let it reload or else you'll have a crappy fire-rate.
* Missiles now fly in a fixed pattern rather than random pattern.
* You have 100 hitpoints. Enemy attacks deal 1-3 damage each (depending on the shot). Hitpoint packs give you 10 hitpoints each.
* There are now four different enemy units, each uses only a specific attack of its own.
* Interface is now blended into the game rather than blocking the lower part of your screen. It is also more graphical now.
* Enemies have hitpoints, and thus take more than one shot to be killed. The amount of hitpoints does not only vary amongst different enemies, but is also randomized amongst ones of the same type.
* The game is actually fun now.

To begin playing, you need to click "N" on the first screen to start a New Game.
The controls are the arrow keys, 1, 2, <, >, and ESC. Don't click the "X" on the program's top right part to exit it, or else it might just turn invisible and you'll have to use the task manager to close it. Use ESC.

Fun game. Very basic, but fun. All the ships are surrounded by flashing white boxes. And maybe it is my computer, but it seems to lag and then speedup, then lag, and speed up, and I am not messing with the game speed. But it is good so far.

Flashing white boxes and slowing down & up are exactly the effects caused by too-slow computers. That's why the < and > buttons are there, speed up and down as needed - until there are no flashing boxes and timing errors.

Well then this is just more proff for me that my computer sucks. I have the problems no matter what speed it is at.

Major Update:

I spent the recent days learning to use DirectX7, which I have now become proficient enough with to start working on Engine 3 for Revenant. This will allow me to reach much higher performances while using heavier graphics and more extended environment.

I have also made a decision to change the core gameplay of the game, in order to allow me to construct it into an MMORPG in the future.
Yes. You heard right. MMORPGZOMG.

Download Video File (AVI) (http://www.sendspace.com/file/m1283h)
I have Frapsed this short AVI displaying basic usage of DX7, where I created two surfaces - the background and a unit, that can be maneuvered by me to turn around and fly towards where it's heading.

I did not enable alpha yet, so I tried to fly between the letters :p

Also, here is a playable~ applet on which you can experience maneuvering a generic ship (ship model used: Cyborg Glut from RoH). Your controls are the arrow keys and ESC key. Their usage should be pretty obvious.
Notice the SPEED and the SMOOTH moving & turning.
Playable EXE (http://www.sendspace.com/file/rx181v) (requires Windows 98 or higher... lawls)

It hadn't. It was Giggily's attempt to April-fools.

Update: I have made further progress with the usage of DX7. I believe I pretty much sorted it out for myself by now, thereby I will now start adding teh cool features. For now, here is an addition of a shooting system (click 1 to shoot, NOT on the numpad)

Hint: Hold down the Up and Left keys, than once at full speed, click the "1" button to release a spray of shots. It will entertain you for 5-10 seconds, I promise :)

I would appreciate if a lot if you turned on Fraps and viewed the frame rate that the program gives you while using RE3, then post it here. Also, if you get an error while trying to open RE3, please, post the error message here. If you have anything else to report, again, please, share it on this thread.
