View Full Version : I've Got CnC3 and it's Great!

I got the game this morning and I'm really enjoying it. The campaign is the first RTS campaign I've actually enjoyed in a long time, the live-action videos are good, if a little corny, and the multiplayer is fast-paced and easy to pick up (Tank Rush FTW!).
Anyone else have the game, and what are your thoughts? GameSpot gives it 9.0/10, I'd about agree.
Perhaps the important question, at least IMO: Does it feel like a Command and Conquer game? What I hated about Generals was that it didn't feel like a CnC game. It's hard to explain, but I'm sure you know what I mean.
Also, in comparison to the others, is it quite serious? The Tiberium series was never quite as camp as the Red Alert series, but it still had that B-movie flavour. When you say 'corny' cut scenes, are they corny in the same way as those good old ones from yesteryear?

Yes, it does. I got it as well and it's damn good. The cut-scenes are superb and the gameplay is excellent. The campaign is engrossing and great fun. I reccommend this immensely.

I've never really played many of the CnC games from "yesteryear", but it's corny in the sense that - for instance - characters will react to what another person says before it's come out of their mouth. It's so... fake. But it's ok.

I got it as well, it is a damn good game.
The game play is fast, very fast, you basically have 2 minutes to set up your base and get in to it. Troop movement is also very fast. After the frustrating slow play of Tiberium Sun I am finding it to be a very pleasant surprise.
I haven’t experimented with the multiplayer side of the game a great deal yet but it seems very interesting the way it has been setup. Multiplayer games can be broadcast live for spectators or watched as replays. The spectator channels also have voip so everyone can chat about what’s going on in the game, it seems quite interesting.

Fuck how it feels, I'm not looking to grope a video game.
Is the multiplayer worth a damn? A good campaign is good fun and all, but it all sort of stales out after the 2nd playthrough when you know everything that's going to happen, you've blown the computer out of the water like 90 times, and there's nothing left to abuse for your amusement.
I've been watching CnC closely, and I will upgrade if it lives up to the hype. But, it must pass the multiplayer battery, or I will give it the thumbs-down of doom.

I believe that it was made so that the multiplayer would be superb, fast-paced and overall enjoyable. However, currently the multiplayer service is horrible at best. I've crashed numerous times. The good news, however, is that there's a patch coming out soon that will remedy that.

how is it different/similar to Tiberian Sun?
What major differences are there (other than graphics XD)?
to be honest, Im not bothered looking it up cause its 1 in the morning

It's massively different. The gamplay is -much- faster and action packed. There's an added race and the UI is far better. Hell, it's just a lot more fun.

If you want my honest opinion, I think it will be good eventually. At the moment, it's buggy as hell - like paying for a public beta. EA have released two bug fix patches already but my game crashed 7 times in total yesterday and they apparently have "two more patches in the works".
It's very fast paced, and I feel that, unlike Warcraft, there are an immense variety of available strategies. I'm 6-1 in solo at the moment having used APCs, Tank Rushes, Air, Mass Infantry - and that's just with GDI. I think it's very, very balanced, although that may be because I got the game so early and imbalances have yet to be perceived (I think Zone Troopers in APCs are just soooo good).
In short, buy it, but wait a week or two. :)
EDIT: I forgot to mention that there's virtually no base building element. It's basically just fast expand (which every race can do inside 1/2 minutes), stick up four Refineries, sell two, put up lots of production buildings and spam.

I agree, the game has the right feel about it. There are some bugs with multiplayer at present, but with such an intensive effort to get it right (2 patch's in 2 days) the bugs should be gone soon.

so your saying that for people who like to enjoy to build their base and go on the defensive wouldn't like this game?
EvilEggCracker

Not at all. There's still plenty of base defenses etc. for you to turtle with. It's just that you can build them verry quickly.

There are many different defensive structures to choose from for all 3 races, there are many different ways to go about setting up a nice thick turtle shell if that is what you are in to.

Well, honestly I don't know if I see myself springing $60 for this game yet. EA is notorious for putting out a game, releasing 5 patches, and calling it a night.
I paid $3 for CnC Generals AND Zero Hour, and I'm almost at loathe to say it wasn't worth it. The multiplayer is just bad. It needs more patching / balancing, etc. Those terrorist guys have to turtle every fucking game, and digging them out is a giant pain in the ass. US has to go air guy, and China has to go infantry. Both of them are cheesy as hell.
Let's just say I didn't appreciate the game at all.

yes, I agree that EA is either turning into or already turned into complete money making useless game play developers...
to be honest, I wouldn't pay for C&C3...

5 post release patch's is considerable really. Any games they own that has a market EA still regularly release expansions and patches for.
Any company will stop spending money on supporting a game if it is not making any money for them.
The only reason Blizzard provided support for Star craft for so many years was because they where making money from it.
Judging by the massive response in the forums at the CC website you can be pretty sure that there will be support from EA for CC3 for some time.

Spore is being hailed as the most original game in years, not bad for useless game developers. Any game company that fails to make money will go out of business. Making money is what its all about. If there was no money in it, then space invaders would have never been invented.
Was rolling to an old game shop the other day and saw the Tiberium Wars and the whatever they're expansions are called but wasn't sure to buy'em. And so, form your descriptions I may assume that it isn't worth it, correct?
Also, was temtped to get the First Decade pack (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/commandconquerthefirstdecade/index.html) because 'lost' two of my Red Alert's CD's (The Russian CD plus Aftermath) and mainly because of the initial C&C along with RA 2. Tiberium Wars would merely be a bonus. Is it really worth it?
TFD? Certailny, depending on how much and how many of the games you have. The ones I had missing from my collection were Tiberium Sun, Red Alert 1 + Expansions and Generals. Generals is so-so, but considering that I picked the package up for £15 in a two for £30 deal, it's well worth it. You also get a snazzy little DVD with a few interviews. They aren't foundation-shaking, but thye are worth a watch.
Oh, and you get a poster. >.>

Argh! For some reason the game keeps crashing when I try and play it. I've reinstalled it three times and still no help. Been working fine up until now... *sigh*

And there's a new patch out which told me I had 500 minutes remaining on the DL and now tells me I have 200 half an hour later.
Three cheers for EA! Hip hip...
EDIT: Since I started tankspamming with Nod in solo ladder, I haven't lost a game. My record at the moment is 31 tanks by the 5 minute mark. My first two opponents just said "lol" and left, the others just left without so much as a "well played". They disgust me.

When I'm like 5 minutes into a game it crash's and a little "We are sorry for the inconvenience... blah de blah do you wish to send an error report?"
Bloody annoying >.<

If there has been a recent update for your display drivers that you have installed I would try rolling it back to the last set.
Not saying that is for certain or anything, but it might be worth a try, has worked in the past. :)

Deffinately not that - don't install my drivers that often.

edit: arg! this post was supposed to be straight after the last one on page 2!
