What: A custom map terrain contest by my map-making team.
Prize: Reputation and the joy of seeing others play in it.
When: Wednesday, April 18th, 2007 is the deadline for submissions. All submissions will be judged by April 25th, 2007.
Where: Just post you best terrain with start locations in this thread.
Tileset: Lordaeron Winter, Icecrown Glacier, Northrend, Village Fall or Barrens
Size/Intended Play: 3v3 or 6FFA size Melee Map
Judging: My map-making team (4 persons) will rate each submission on the following characteristics.

Balance: to what degree is the map balanced for each player? Is anyone one player more handicapped than another because of start location? 1-10

Realism: does that map look like realistic terrain? Did the maker avoid blocky over overly systematic terrain design? 1-10

Complexity: what neutral buildings did the maker include? Does the use of neutral buildings increase gameplay complexity? How about topography and cliffs? 1-10

Appearance: How attractive is the map in general? Are doodads and weather effects used well? 1-10

So get busy making some killer terrain and impress your fellow board members!

What happened to the WC3 coaching contest? You posted one replay, GA and I commented on it, but were never given scores. And you didn't post any more replays either. :shiftyr:

It would be cool if there were entries in this contest, although the last time this sort of thing was tried, it didn't really go well. But "good luck" regardless. :)

Yoda, you might want to look in here (http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=24720) because that's the only similar thread I can think of related to coaching purposes around here (and it isn't this one, that's for sure). ;)

However, I do recall a do weird strats and post'em with replays thread. Maybe that was what you're after. ^_^

Anyway, come on people, submit your terrains! It's not like we're asking you to make an completed map with triggers, AI and all! Besides, there are other prizes available to the winner that I am not permitted to solicit in this thread, but you'll have to take my word for it and trust me when I say they are great! I know that sounds lame as hell, but you'll just have to trust me on this one.

It hasn't reached its curfew, Morph said that the maps are due on April the 25th. It's the 19th today.

Normally, mappers here are not that interested in making plain Melee maps. Cause I believe many mappers here (like myself) are better at Object Editing and Triggering. That means the custom maps - AoS, Arena/CTF, RPGs etc. Plain Melee maps have nothing except Terrain, So, It's not a Mappers's Skill that could be showed off. Have a contest about Triggered / Custom Maps guys, Like Mini-Game or Arena maps and see how the mappers respond.

Since the submission date was the 18th and no one even dropped a line telling it might participate in due time, decided to destick it. Deal with it. :P Quite frankly, and simply put, I don't need (nor have requested) your 'approval stamp' on such matters. :smirk:

Yeah, go ahead and lock this thread. Looks like no one wants to compete.

Oops... I missed that line.

I am certainly not trying to undermine your authority, great one. I just thought that the curfew hadn't been reached yet, and was politely pointing it out to you.

Next time try to read more carefully before making wisecrack remarks, Yoda. That is all I have to say... ;p

Hmmm,ok,can it be Icecrown Glacier 3v3 or FFA and done for one week (maybe 10 days...)

I tried to leave it open to see if any 'major' conclusions about why melee contests flunk around here could be attained, but now saw that should've cast the lock spell when was asked.

And Blacker, if you had (real) interest in participating should've done it in due time. *Hint, hint*
