Sorc or necromancer...
I like the magic but can't decide whether I prefer elemental or dark magic
Necromancer. I care less for the graphics, but the gameplay is awesome. I can always come up with builds with him that require me to use lots of skills all the time, meaning it's harder to play, thus more fun.

I recently discovered the fun of Necromancers. I have a level 25 Necro on Act IV right now.
I think the real beauty of Necro's are there curses and Skeletons. Since Necros are weak (Which is annoying because they start with such a low strength level, you have to add more skill points into Strength than you would like for him to wear better armor), he can summon a large amount of Skeletons and amplify or weaken a enemy group and you'll tear right through.
The Necro's Skeletal Mages are really weak, and i wish i hadn't spent so much skill points into them. I thought that a Warrior/Mage Combo is effective but i was just wrong. I Should have spent the points in the Clay Golem or Skele Mastery.
Golem's are cool, and would be better if you could build more than one. There great support for your Skeletons, but just become Decoy units for your Necro in boss fights.
My favorite Hero(s) would come down to the Barbarian and the Amazon. The Barbarian is a massive tanker (and i'm use to tanking instead of Micro management) and can use better armor and weapons before anybody else in the game. His Warcries make him a great team player, and the Concentrate Skill just murders most Super Uniques and bosses because it boosts his Defense rating (Which is already high from really good armor and Iron Skin skill) and Atk and Dmg rating at the same time.
I like the Amazon because she is so versatile hero. She is proficient at ranged and melee combat and has a lot of effective elemental attacks. Not to mention, She's Mchotness in armor.
basic necro summoner includes the following skills maxed:
Skel Warriors, Skel Mastery, Golem Mastery.
Then you choose whatever to go mages or not, and whatever to get revives or not.
Some dump extra points int Amplify damage, though personally I think it's a big waste.
necros are definitely a favorite of mine, along with, apparently, sorceresses.

I've tried out the classes Amazon, Druid, Necro, Pala and Barb.
Barb is the only one i've finished the game with, as of now.
With my amazon and pala I couldn't get further than the 2nd act. That boss is nasty. (i was like 10 years old though, so i could prolly do it by now)
Necro was fun, did a basic build. However, it was al bugged and when i finished the 1st act I wasn't able to progress to the 2nd. :(
I'm currently working on a druid, and I fricken' love it. All I basically do is cast fissure, and let my minions (wolves, act 2 merc) beat the crap out of the survivors. It's great fun. :D

I'm currently working on a Uber-Wolf Druid. I'm just going to max out on Wolf shape shifting and Lycanthoplogy.
I like the Wolf's attack speed, i'll enjoy it even more if i can find a decent scimitar to equip my wolf with.
You might consider a good 2-handed polearm or similarly powerful weapon.
Oh, and only dunk about 5 total points into feral rage.
Also max Fury asap =P it will be your staple skill.

The assassin. you don't have to waste space with keys, Her shadow master is arguably the strongest summoned unit in the game, and, at lvl 30, with her martial arts, you get the ability to cast high-lvl sorceress spells for as little as 6 mana. OWNED!!!
and the assassin is arguably the best for takin gout the swarms of monsteres u find in Diablo. I owned at the cow level. =)

Did you over count or something because i thought the max amount of skeletons for both Mage and Warrior was 8.
Plus i heard from the players on this site and on Battle Net that Fire Golems are pretty useless unless your fighting something that spits out fire damage.

I wonder...what's the max amount of skeletons an optimalized lvl 99 necro can summon?
You can get around level 48+ skeletons, so I'd assume its about, what, 45/3 which is about 15, so I'd say one could summon up to 18~ skeleton warriors, same number of mages, I guess, but they are pretty worthless.
Note that you get 1 more skeleton per 3 points into Raise Skeleton, after the first 3 points (the first 3 points give you a total of 3 skeletons).
Also, Fire Golem is pretty lame, he won't absorb fire damage if you have even 1 point in summon resist. I prefer a Clay Golem, or nice iron golem myself.

There is no skill called summon monster. However, there is a skill called Revive. It allows you to take a corpse and make a copy of it with more health and more damage output at the cost of slower movement. Revives have a fixed time limit of 3 minutes, after which they will automatically die and leave a unusable corpse. They will also disappear if you leave them too far behind.
The benefits to revives is that they usually have a very large portion of health and can do a good amount of damage. You get 1 extra revive per point in revive but often times, I find that there are not enough good monsters to summon (they are copies of the original so stronger is more worthwhile) and that some of those corpses would have been better off as target for corpse explosion. Also, it costs a ton of mana, which is annoying. So having too many isn't necessarily a good thing.

I love bowazons. I dont think they are the best but as far as favorites I love strafers.
Summon necros are cool and probably one of the easiest and safest builds out there. Especially if you do hardcore. My first hardcore character per season is always a summoner. The max level you can obtain on skeles is 53 and thats with a BO (3 skill helm, 3 skill ammy, boneflame, king leoric, enigma, 2x soj or BK, arachnid, torch anni and 9 gc). At that lvl you get 19 skeles that do 1120-1125 dmg, 1625 def and 1532 life. Thats alot of skeles and alot of damage. if you have a beast weapon and use fanatacism they own even more. Add a pride merc, or (if you are really rich) a pride iron golem. Having beast (lvl 9 fanat) and pride merc (lvl20 conc) would bring skele dmg to 2558 dmg per 19 skeles which is nothing to sneeze at. And their attacking much faster with the fanat than normal. They own pvm and pvp or bosses especially if you do the tele trick- tele on the boss or person and they get surrounded by your summons and can't move out ali the while getting attacked by most of your minions. Tele/summon/beast/pride necros own make a cheap insight and make your iron golem out of insight to recieve meditation and you can also corpse explode everything while your minions tear away. Or you can turn into a bear and do lots of mele dmg too (about 2600 dmg with beast and conc going) but, at a loss of Corpse explode and tele though. Throw in life tap through dracs (while in bear form) or cast tap and then turn into a bear and you nor your minions will die. Very strong build (expensive too) and fun. And if you are a summoner always make an iron golem that way you can make him out of a weapon that casts an aura to help. You won't need a golem for damage so use him for an aura (merc should always be able to kill at least one act monster to start building army). Plus hes probably the safest character to rush someone with especially in travincal or ancients.

Alternatively, you could go with a clay golem. They have ridiculous amounts of life (I've had golems with 20k+ with very little effort, point distribution wise) and they slow whatever they fight.

Oh sadness must I choose only one?!?!
Well... I guess I'd have to go with the necromancer. I've built A summoner/bone necro, a poison nova necro and a plain bone necro and must say that I've loved them all!
My second favorite is the Sorceress followed by the Assassin then maybe the Druid.

Zon's, in my opinion have a lack of creativity. Perhaps the Javazon is the only Zon variant that's actually fun to play, but anything other than that is "bleh". I feel like they are more dependent on their equipment than their skills, and many of their skills are boring.

Sorceress p00ns, their skills look p00n.
I also like the necromancers and the paladin, but necromancers are not really the thing i want and paladins are kinda hard (to many good auras D: )

Word.

My first Paladin was an Auradin. I was planning to make it a Zealot, but since i was a newb, i put one point into every Aura. It left my Zeal attack very undeveloped but surprisingly my Paladin could tank a lot better than i thought.
Then you learn that most Aura's are useless.
