View Full Version : A Starcraft era-because I need new ideas.

Not many have heard of me on here, but on SC.org I'm pretty big.
Anyway, I need a new series, but there isn't an era that I can think of that hasn't been covered. I'm thinking of the Terran-Protoss war that was started at first contact (or something like that), but I'm not sure if it has any merit.
Any other suggestions in terms of a Starcraft era?

Well, the initial skirmishes between Terran and Protoss were kind of covered in the Precursor Campaigns. Of course they don't go that deep into the storyline so I guess you could pick up on on it.
Also, nobody's covered the Genesis of either the Protoss or the Zerg. Sure, it's a bit farfetched, but it's still within the StarCraft universe. Same goes for other historical periods like the rift between the Conclave and the Dark Templar, or Pre-Aeon of Strife Protoss civilisation.
Then there's the option of making your story post-broodwar. I'ts been done a billion times, I know, but there's so much creative liberty in it, it doesn't matter at all :O.
It's your choice, good luck!
:D

With the Blades of Aiur, I did kind of a parallel universe thing without even knowing it. The Genesis sounds interesting, so that is to be considered. I could delve into the civilization of the Xel'Naga, and that is something I am truly piqued about. So the Genesis is a definate candidate. I might want to hear some more, though.

Khyrador is also a very rich subject, but I don't think anybody's ever considered writing about the Protoss Colonies, before, during and possibly even after the Aeon of Strife.
*Hint* :)

Aye. I thank you for this.
But it still isn't over. Anyone else?
I think that if we do go over the Xel'Naga idea, it will be based primarily on their creation and their creator. Someone had to have come up with the idea, right? That could be a very interesting and very convincing guilt trip...
I don't mean to be nit picky here, but could you avoid double posting please? =P
I often don't get into Fan-Fics, seeing as I find it hard to separate them from canon (I did this with Star Trek books, now it's hard to keep canon straight with the book arcs).
At any rate, I do find the entire idea of the Xel'Naga very intriguing, especially since there is little information about them specifically, past the briefest mentions in the manual about them creating the Protoss and the Zerg.
I'm also wondering if this might do better in the starcraft section?

No, Neo, it stays here :<
It is a writing project, after all. Having it moved to the SC section would be like moving the StarCrat RPs there too >_>
Plus, you'd make me sad if you did :(

It would give me a lot of room to work as well, considering that so little is said about them. Perhaps a few social anomalies...
The only problem is that I have to keep them from being corny or embarrasing while making a symbolical point (or else, why do we have it?).
A cool idea I was thinking about the other day, would be what if one of the travelling Terran colony ships had drifted away from the main fleet due to some sort of error or sabotage. It had then flown way off into another galaxy, and had stumbled across a new alien race (perhaps Xel Naga, perhaps another breed that Xel Naga was creating, or perhaps even a set of beings that were the precursors to the Xel Naga, or maybe just another completely different race).
Document the chronicles of that colony ship's adventure, possibly later reuniting them with the UED fleet, or finding a planet ravaged by the Zerg, and using this new race as an ally against the Zerg? Or maybe the Terrans warred with this new race and enslaved them, and found out they had technology and data about Zerg, which then the Terran go out to find? There's many paths you could follow.
Then tie it in to the current storyline somehow, or tie it in to the aftermath of Infested Kerrigan. Or it could also be a prequel to the SC campaigns.

Hmmm. We're delving into the future universe with the SoW project, so I don't think I should dilute expectations right now :).
Sounds a bit like Star Trek: Voyager anyway...

No thank you.
Anyway, this Xel'Naga thing will be original-a trip to the time of glory.
I won't make them uber, anyhow.
The only problem is that the prelude will have to be kind of cliched in order to work. The whole Xel'Naga temple thing is the only idea that seems to come to mind. Otherwise, it's just darned awkward.
Plus, the hybrids have also been done to death by many. I think the Xel'Naga are really the only idea that's new.
We need stuff like this. I don't care how people gripe and complain about "well, I don't exactly like to do the Xel'Naga..."
The prelude will be uncomfortable in writing style, then I'll fit right into the Xel'Nygian way of speaking, which is the prophetic speak that the Protoss use (I'm very good at that-though I can make excellent Terran dialogue as well).
Wish me luck!

Well, since you tell me my idea sounds like Star Trek voyager and you actually think your idea sounds good (Xel Naga honor bound like the protoss? Wow you are a good writer!), I think I'm done trying to give you ideas.

You know, he does have the right to refuse suggestions. It is his story after all.
How about you give your story a try and post it here in CC too. The more the merrier :)
He doesn't have to tell me it sounds like I'm ripping off something else, though. Especially when he asks for help. That's just rude.
But I accept your challenge. I will write up a 5 page short story of what I'd like to see in a new campaign and post it. I'll try and get it done by Monday morning, and I'll post it here.

Even if he was being a prick [which I cannot vouch for, though] you can't just flame back. It doesn't make you look better and it calls for more flames. Be the bigger person, there are so many better ways in which you could have replied to him without looking like a troll yourself. Come on, GroG, you're better than that. :)
@ Haladras:
Good luck kid. Hope something good comes out of this!
Haladras

I'm not going to touch that. It's not worth it. Not that I think that he's a wimp or anything, but I don't think this warrants a flame war at all.
Anyway, I don't at all include the honor-bound ideals of the Protoss in the Xel'Naga, I merely believe that their speech is similar. In terms of honor, they are on seperate worlds.
But besides that, I merely have a single comment: that was also an opinion. To me, it sounded like Star Trek: Voyager. That's all I said. I didn't "take a survey" or anything of the like. If it's a slight, then it's too little to just go ballistic and start yelling "you suck!" (Though I truly did not mean it as such). Not only that, but you decided to fall back upon personal attacks?
Really mature. That's all I have to say on it. Maybe your idea will work, maybe it won't. But it's not the one I've decided to use, sorry to say.
Thank you for your ideas and suggestions. However, I'm not so sure how this will turn out. I'll be sure to send it to some people on the various org sites for feedback-if he's still not raging mad, I might also send it to Grog for some critique on the Xel'Naga impressions (as he seems to be the one most likely to pick up on any overwhelming similarities between the Xel'Naga and the Protoss-which is also a comment not meant as a slight).
This is just a general comment-Warboards is currently undergoing an identity crisis; this leads to bad feelings all around. Please don't contribute to that.

Enslavers 3 Needs a script soo hal makes one
alan is dead but Urjaz(dark achron) is not
It is thirty years prior to the infestation of colony planet Chau Sara . We see now that it is the height of the Terran Guild Wars, the ragged Kel-Morian Combine fleet has engaged the united Confederate forces under the command of General Edward Duke, who is piloting powerful prototype Battlecruiser Norad during the battle. Using fuel consuming hit and run tactics, the Kel-Morian combine fleet continues to make the space siege overlooking Tarsonis seem like their true agenda. On the surface of the planet, however, Commander Roy Banas leads his special forces team using powerful Larscope Goliaths potent range to leave no eyewitnesses. Roy's elite team has been deployed to steal the blueprints for the Confederates new battlecruiser design, the Norad II.
Roy: Straight ahead, 45 meters and closing. Turret at nine oclock.
Lt. Naster: Copy commander. Locking on.. target acquired. Hellfire missiles launched. Target destroyed.
Roy: Good work, lieutenant. Deploy troops and secure the grounds using tactic code zero-zero-twelve. I'm going in on foot.
Naster: Copy. Good luck sir.
Roy's hatch releases pressure, and slowly opens. Roy emerges from the craft, wearing his worn black combat suit. A gruff 5 day beard covers his jaw, and a scar runs jagged down the bridge of his nose. His blonde, shaggy hair hangs down over his dark brown eyes. After getting out of his goliath, he places a decoder device on the facility's doorway, and within seconds he gains access. Quickly, he glides down the hallway, pulling the pistol from his holster. Seconds later, he acquires and silences two guards.
Roy: Filthy Confederates. Now.. where are those blueprints?
Roy closed his eyes and brought up the schematics of the facility in his mind. He had 2 more passageways and 6 more guards to take care of before he found the access terminal. Silently, he snuck up behind the next guard while he leaned against the wall, sleeping. Covering his mouth, he slit his throat quickly and painlessly, and aimed his pistol at the patrolling guard to the south. He pulled the trigger, and the bullet lodged itself directly into the guard's cranium, instantly downing him.
He turned left and headed east toward the terminal. His foot crossed a red laser, and all around him the lights dimmed and began flashing red. Alarms began to go off, and Roy looked down the tracking beam, and his error.
Roy: Can't believe I made such a rookie mistake. I'll have to let Ops know about their lack of security information on my report.
Footsteps plodded from where Roy was going to the East. Cursing, he put his pistol back in the sheath. Only seconds until this gets messy. Closing his eyes, he concrentrated 100% on only one thing: A cloak of invisibility. He thought about clouds, about vision of the weak passing through his body covered by his strength of mind. Sweat gathered and fell off his brow.
Rounding the corner, the footsteps slowed. Then, 2 grenades hit the wall and rolled in front of him.
Roy: Shit.
Roy focused again. He could see the outline of the grenade in his mind's eye. He then invisioned the grenade's innards, it's block powder encased by an explosive device. He imagined a missile shooting from his mind, hitting the grenade and stopping all of it's machinery, freezing it in time. Then, as if imaginary and real space had collided, a lockdown missile shot from his mind and hit the grenade. A giant ball encompassed it, stopping all of it's rotary functions.
Leaving only 1 grenade left. And he was all out of time. Eight confederate marines rounded the corner, and began shooting at the area around the grenade, confused looks on their faces on why no one was there and why 1 grenade had a grey orb around it. Roy pulled a jack-knife from his sheath and launched it at one of the marines, cruelly lodging it into his throat. The other 7 marines fired at the silhouette.
Then, a bright blue blinding flash overtook Roy's vision. He rubbed his eyes, and covered his face with his arms, instinctively. The grenade explosion must be taking my life, he thought.
Roy opened his eyes and looked forward, his vision still blurry. Blue circular waves appeared in front of him, and a giant yellow alien warrior walked through it, grabbed Roy with brute strength, and stepped back through the teleportation portal. Roy instinctively grabbed for his gun. The protoss warrior glared at him, and in his mind Roy could feel a stabbing pain. Then, quickly, the pain intensified and knocked him unconcious.
Hours, possibly days passed by. Roy dreamt about the Norad II plans, about watching as the Kel-Morian fleet destroyed that overly confident General Edward's Norad Battlecruiser. He could see it now, the public executions of Edward, and then of his ambitious son, Edmond. Then, the fall of the Confederacy. A rigid, deep voice disrupted his sleep.
Warrior: Wake, human. You have regained your energies long enough. It is time for you to unite the outcasts.
Roy scanned the Protoss warrior. He had no mouth, nose, or ears, and had dark, scaly blue skin. His yellow psionic armor covered his body, doubling his mass and making him look fearsome. The warrior was almost twice his height, and by his grip earlier, twice as powerful.
Roy: Wait a second, no mouth? Then how am I talking to this being?
Warrior: We are communicating through the Khala, how else? Your telepathy is very strong, Roy Banas.
Roy: The Khala? How do you know my name? Who are you?!
Warrior: I am known as Elliar of the Templar caste by my tribe. I roam the outer regions of Protoss space, looking for free space to expand our colonies. I stumbled apon your peoples..
Roy: ..and decided to attack?!
Elliar:You are confused, young human. We met today. The instance I am talking about, was nearly 200 years ago.
Roy: I don't understand..
Elliar: I was patrolling my scout ship near the edge of Koprulu and Danumacht space. It was then I saw your 6 worldships bearing down into the sector. I could feel the life inside the ships, yearning to awaken. 4 of the worldships got dragged down into Koprulu's planet's gravity wells. Alas, one of the great ships was even destroyed.
Roy: The great sleep.. I see. but there were only 4 ships that carried our ancestor's here.
Elliar: Four of your worldships indeed landed here in Koprulu sector, but there are two more worldships.. in the Stenab sector. We have attempted contact with the outsiders 3 times over the last 100 years. Each attempt has ended in failure. We pray to Khas for each life lost to those endeavors.
Roy: So you need a human to contact them and win them over for you. What's in it for me? And more importantly, what does a planet full of backwater Terrans have that you need?
Elliar: Planet full? Those backwater Terrans have already taken over 2 sectors of space, colonized 40 worlds, and their technology has succeeded that of your original worldships that brought you here.
Roy: Sweet mother of god.. how? How are they so powerful? So advanced?
Elliar: Unfortunately, we were unable to observe the Stenab's, they seemed immediately aware of our presence and blocked our cloaked observers from watching them. Their telepaths are as powerful if not more powerful than you, Roy. And you are the most powerful we have felt of the Koprulu Terrans.
Roy: How are we to meet with the Stenab Terrans if you can't even get a cloaked ship into their midst?
Just then, Elliar's console bleeped something in a strange language. The normal hue of blue in the ship turned red, and Roy began to feel uneasy. Were they entering Stenab space? He looked over at Elliar, his eyes were closed. He probed Elliar mentally, but got nothing. Had he shut him out? Obviously Elliar was concentrating on something, whatever it was he just hoped it would work. Roy turned and walked over to the viewport, and gazed on at a giant planet growing larger and larger by the moment. Huge cruisers and deployment dropships could be seen floating in space around the planet. This must be their capital world.
The scout ship then began to multiply into blue clones of itself. First, just a couple of doppelgangers appeared, then ten, then fifty, then one hundred. Out in the viewport, Roy could see the Stenab fleet scrambling to react to the threat growing in front of their eyes. Then, without warning, the clone fleet began racing towards the planet's surface. Missiles and yamato blasts rained down on the clone fleet, dissipating the clones one by one. Their scout ship rocked a bit, one of the clone ships nearby had been destroyed. Roy hoped they didn't get lucky and get their ship. As if responding to his thoughts, two hellfire missiles blew into the side of their ship. Roy fell over, and grabbed onto a control panel to stabilize himself. Still functional, the ship flew on.
Two of the clone ships and Elliar's ship landed on the planet. Elliar and Roy raced outside and hid in an alley, while wraith fighters screamed into sight, targeted the scout ship and launched missiles, eradicating it within seconds. The wraiths screamed off as quickly as they came, and cloaked out of vision. Instictively, Roy pulled out his pistol. He heard a zzzzzat, and looked over to see a electric blue blade emitting from each of Elliars fists. Elliar then stalked down the alley, with Roy in hot pursuit.
The planet was much more urban than Moria.. even Tarsonis. Turrets rose from streetcorners like giant towers of steel. Goliaths patrolled the streets, headlamps pouring light into the dark passageways of the side streets. Elliar dodged sideways, avoiding the light and moved quickly, timing the routine paths the giant steel guards used. Roy concentrated and brought up his personal cloaking, and followed Elliar ever so cautiously.
After what seemed like an eternity, Elliar stopped in a passageway in front of a huge steel building guarded by blood-red Goliaths. Above the pillars of the building was a sign, which read "Senate". After pausing a few moments to study the Goliaths, Elliar motioned for Roy to come closer.
Elliar: For Adun, Roy. Their sacrifices is for the good of your people.
Elliar brought his hand out straight in front of him, and bolts of blue flashed in his eyes. Then, the dark skies grew even darker, and clouds formed overhead. Torrents of wind blew into the street. Lightning flashed, and thunder roared, and finally a giant storm of lightning descended on the two unsuspecting Goliaths, reducing one to a heap of smoldering metal. The other locked on to where Elliar was standing. Elliar leaped onto the machine, and his great psi-blades ripped into it's back, destroying its fuel supply and causing an explosion in the suit. Elliar jumped away, seconds before it erupted into a giant fireball and blew apart.
Elliar noticed that Roy had decloaked, and was holding the door of the Senate chamber open, waiting for him to follow. Once inside, they found themselves in a long steel corridor, ending in some strange alien device. It looked like some sort of warping device. Roy looked over at Elliar, and noticed his eyes were wide in amazement.
Elliar: That is one of my brethren's warp gates. How did they acquire it?
Roy: I don't know.. but it looks like the only way through. Can we use it?
Elliar: Yes, anyone can.
The duo made it halfway down the corridor, when a giant silver mine arose from the ground roughly 6 meters ahead of them, a red light blinking wildly on it's center. Without any time to react, it began racing towards them, zigzagging down the corridor. Roy stepped back, and immediately knew there was no way to outrun a speeder mine. Not even cloaking could stop it from exploding and killing them both. Then, just milliseconds before detonating at their feet, it froze. A voice boomed over the speakers.
Voice: Our appointment wasn't until next month, prelate Zeratul. Why did you fly in on a ship? You could have used the gate you brought us, it is operational. I've sent 4 guards to escort you to my office, follow them.
Zeratul? Clearly, Elliar was just as confused as Roy was. Did these Terrans make contact with some rogue Protoss warrior? Or was Elliar using deceit against Roy for some purpose? No matter, they both only had 1 option available now.
Minutes later, they were standing in front of a semicircle table in a very dark room. A light shone on Elliar and Roy. The senators made it very clear they didn't want to be seen. Then the questions began.
Senator: Prelate Zeratul, the warp technology is working rather well, we have successfully linked 2 planets, and by the end of the year we hope to have all planets in our territory linked, as well as some dormant gates on our travelling colony ships. Have you utilized any of our mapping information?
Elliar: Senator, I think you are confused. I am not this prelate. I am Elliar, a Templar under the command of Executor Tassadar. I come here seeking my brother, Dratum. His observer fell over this planet approximately 4 years ago.
Senator: Ahh, I see. The linked ones. Yes, we have Dratum here on the planet. Who is this human with you?
Elliar: He is a human from Moria. A telepath.
Roy: I am a soldier in the Kel-Morian combine, Sir. My name is Roy Banas. I am so glad to see this sector! Why haven't you made contact with us? We are losing the war!
Senator: I see. Well, since you can't go home now, I might as well tell you.
Roy: Can't go home? I have a huge operation on Tarsonis, the whole Kel-Morian fleet is depending on me...
Senator: That matters not. You don't understand, you must let me explain. A warrior, much like this Elliar you travel with, contacted us soon after our landing here on Gatoa, 180 years ago. His name was prelate Zeratul. He informed us of a huge threat to our peoples. We returned the gratitude of our warning with offers of trade with him.
Senator#2: Should we really..
Senator: Quiet, Riley, he is a level 2 telepath. He will not be able to go home. Surely we can use him, in the C.E.R.B.E.R.U.S. project. Let me tell him our plight, and I don't think it will be a forced service.
Senator Riley: I see. Proceed then, Germain.
Senator Germain: So, Roy, in exchange for technologies which rapidly advanced our.. how do I say... situation here, we were colonizing this sector within a few years. How long did it take the Kel-Morian's to get off planet?
Roy: The Confederates flew off Tarsonis after 60 years.
Senator Germain: I see. Well, we quickly colonized this region, and another sector at that. Then, we had first contact with the Zergs. There is no end to them, don't you see? They are insects, giant killing insects. They outnumbered us 5 to one in our initial confrontation over the colony world of Butai. We had to send in ghost units to use nuclear missiles to eradicate the entire world.
Senator Riley: That isn't all! Roy, they have hundred of worlds.. they conquer, they don't leave any survivors..
Senator Germain: I'm afraid he's right, Roy. That's why we've assembled the largest fleet Stenab.. no, the HUMAN RACE has ever seen. We are awaiting Zeratul's arrival with his advanced warp technology, and after integration, we are going to destroy these insects.
Elliar: Tassadar has spoken of these Zergs. I must warn them they have come all the way to Stenab sector.
Senator Germain: You can wait a month and talk to Zeratul personally, if you wish Elliar.
Elliar: I must relinquish that right. I've been ordered not to make contact with your sector, Senator. But I felt I had to save my brother.
Senator Germain: Of course. Your brother will be brought to your ship immediately.
Elliar: By your leave, then. For Khas, Roy. Be strong.
Roy: Wait just a darn minute. I need to go back to Tarsonis. I must steal those plans for the Norad II!
Senator Germain: I'm sorry Roy, but we can't allow you to leave. Please, you must understand.. these Zergs will destroy not only our colonies, but yours, and then.. Earth. You have the ability Roy. We would like to place you with Commander Durzan and his elite squad, C.E.R.B.E.R.U.S. They are all telepaths, like you. You will specialize in eradicating the most powerful of all the Zergs, their Overmind. In time, you will call this place home.
Senator Riley: And who knows, maybe someday you'll end up back in Koprulu sector, killing a hivemind.
Left with no other choice, Roy was escorted to C.E.R.B.E.R.U.S Commander Durzan for training and a bunk. Elliar and his brother, Dratum, left the planet and joined up with the Ganthrithor carrier cruiser for a meeting with Executor Tassadar. The Kel-Morians lost the battle, then retreated from Tarsonis. 10 standard days later, the war was over, but Moria maintained indepence with their wealthy contributions to the Confederacy.
Approximately 10 years later, the Stenab Galactic Fleet set course for the Zerg homeworld. What would happen there would be the biggest and longest war humanity has ever seen. More importantly, a black hole caused a huge jump to unkown space, and the Terrans would not arrive on the Zerg homeworld for 100 years.
Before setting sail, Durzan, Roy, and the rest of C.E.R.B.E.R.U.S. were stationed to Tarsonis, and given access to all information regarding the Zergs. It was prelate Zeratul's idea. Once the Stenab fleet found it's destination, the squad could warp-gate to the planet. But until then, they would defend the Stenab's brothers over in Koprulu sector.

A grog Kerrigan killed Duke
second thing once there is an attack all troops would be in power suits
also protoss never made themselves known to terrans except after the zerg probelsm era
General Duke would not be General for 30 years
you make him seem like he is 100 years old or something at sc current time
Read the intro. It's the Guild Wars, which happened (in my story) 30 years prior to SC's story. So no, Duke is not dead unless he was killed by a not-yet-born Kerrigan. Also, notice how it's Edward Duke, the father of Edmond Duke, and he is piloting the Norad I.
Power suits? Tarsonis is a populated planet, so it should be breathable.
Finally, as far as we know the Toss didn't make themselves known. But there are always different viewpoints to a story. As far as Tassadar knows he is first contact, but what about covert operations?

And your welcome to any of my ideas in your story as well, since this originally was for you to get ideas for the story you were writing.
And please do critique, I really do enjoy writing and I'd like to improve. I love science fiction, I read Star Wars books and Dune and such, and some day I do hope to get one of my own works (I have a post apocolyptic Earth story I'm working on currently) published someday.

Do you actually think I'm being literal with that statement? :)
So I'm a German general intent on conquering the internet masses?
In that case, it's not a compliment. Read your history, and maybe you'll realize what I'm saying by that :). I thought others would understand what I intended, but maybe I gave too much credit in that area.
Please prove me wrong. Pretty please? I trust you to do so, Baracus. Or were you actually serious.

Yeah. It's private anyway, so I didn't expect you to know.
