Console me...

Yea the thread title is very misleading. :P

I'm wondering if anyone here knows exactly where the button overlays are for the consoles. (If you don't know what the "console" is it's the bottom part of the screen where the buttons, portraits, wireframes, and minimap are.) I'm looking for the "menu" button as well as the "hide minimap terrain", and "Diplomacy" buttons. The only possible lead I've got would be game\icons.grp. But when I open it all I get is 11 blank frames.

So does anyone know where they are exactly? Or, if it is in game\icons.grp, is there anyone who can open it without it getting corrupted? (The reason I ask is I've been scouring the mpq looking for them already and not finding them.)

If that's the racial hub console that you're referring to, then look at "StarDat.mpq" a tad better. ;p At the "game/*" location you'll find "xconsole.pcx" files, being x the initial letter for each race in the game. I sure hope that this was what ya asked for. :confused:

Unfortunetly no. I've already changed the console itself. Here's what's wrong...

The areas surrounded by blue are the buttons I'm looking for. They don't line up properly with my new console so I need to edit them. But in order to edit them I need to open them. And in order to open them I need to find them. ;P

okay, i hope you're talking about multiplayer games, because on my screen it is perfectly identical to a single-player game.



Having the diplomacy and chat button is only during multi games, thats mebbe why you have trouble finding the diplomacyt button..

Ahh. I see now. What grp program are you using? iirc, the .grp file for those uses a format that retro doesn't support....

Found it!!!

for anyone who wants to know it's "dlgs\nameofrace.grp" This contains all of the console buttons except for the "menu" button. (However that may change as I've only open the terran.grp as of this writing.

EDIT: The "Menu" button is in there. It's the seemingly blank button.

Side note: You MUST open/decompile these grps with a converter other than retro. Retro corrupts these files as DoA said. So use something like ShadowFlares GrpConverter (available at staredit.net) to decompile these.
