Zelt's Monthly Photoshop Challenge - April '07

Hello there and Welcome to the all new Zeltaris Challenge.

This time with 80% less spam than its predecessor! (http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=4364)

I was thinking we needed more stuff going on in CC when the idea hit me. Monthly fotoshoppe fun for all!
Every month I shall be posting a task for you creative whores to do. It's an friendly contest open for all, from photoshop gods to the newbs who're only beginning to wet their feet in graphical design. Anybody can take it - yes, even you, the bloke who can only devote 10 minutes per day to fun fun! [Take your time, you've got a whole month for it :D]

Here's how it'll work. Every month a new task will be posted, each one with its own set of rules. I'll be judging, along with the winner of the previous challenge and a guest judge.

The winner of the past month's challenge will not qualify, so other members can have their own shot at glory. So, let's say Player A wins in March, then he/she won't be able to participate in April and takes a judge spot instead. Then player B wins in April, same thing applies: he/she cannot participate directly but judges instead.

It's a killer stock photograph site, very useful.
PS: If you were going to ask, "what's a stock?" a stock is an image [photograph, scan, drawing, etc] that you use as a base for graphical work.

Ok... the last two weeks of march came and went and only dear old BH posted something. It's probably because there's very little of us remaining who'd actually enter a contest like this. [Although he does deserve the win. Me givez0rz karmaz0rz]

Here's what we'll do. I'll ask a mod to rename this to "April '07" Photoshop challenge. After all, two weeks is very little time, especially around this time of year. New deadline is on april 30th. If it hasn't taken off by then, I'll be considering putting my Photoshop Contests on ice, and refocusing my CC interests ;)

I personally think you could've done without the bottom 20-30 pixels. It kind of draws attention away from the chimney, which could've also been larger >_>

Sirion, that's some wicked shit. Looks excellent. You should have left out that 'The Essence of Life' out though. Smoke isn't in any way the 'Essence of Life', and it looks kinda silly.:P

That's an arguable point NastyApe. When I was making this, I was thinking about fire being life, in an abstract way. It keeps humans alive, it warms them, and without it we probably wouldn't exist. Smoke is the essence of fire, and as such is in a way the essence of life.

If you try to return its 'essence' to the fire by say... chucking the smoke at it or keeping it from escaping, it dies. Therefore, it can't be its essence. You is fail ;)

By the way, I love having a lot of time because I spend about 10 minutes a day on it and it seems to be turning out a lot better then me cramming. I recommend having long deadlines!
